That's what this New York Daily News article would lead us to believe. According to Rush & Molloy, Howard Stern fans are in such an outrage - after he skipped out on the funeral of Gary Dell'Abate's father - that they're threatening to drop their SIRIUS subscriptions.
Allegedly, fourteen-thousand people have express their distaste on Stern Fan Network and Chaunce Hayden has declared Stern "A-hole of the Week." (Note to the Media: The mere mention of Chaunce Hayden instantly reduces the validity of your news piece.)
SFN is quick to bring up that the numbers are bit skewed in this report. At the time of posting this the thread in question was viewed 19,214 times.
Now don't misunderstand me. I personally would never miss the wake, or the funeral, of a close co-worker/friend... but I figure the numbers should be somewhat accurate if it's to be reported on.

1.) Beth had to go to the hospital as she broke her foot as they were getting ready to leave for the funeral. What's she supposed to do? Tough it out while her foot swells out of the shoe?
2.) Howard paid for the lunchen after the funeral. He didn't need to do that. Gary even made a special point to thank Howard on the air!

Yes, Gary commented on it, and talked about how generous Howard was by paying for the entire reception/wake. Howard's girlfriend broke her foot on practically their way out the door to the funeral and he had to take her to the hospital. Howard called Gary from the hospital and he felt so bad about missing the funeral he offered to pay for the entire reception.
This is a non-story, cooked up by O&A fans (good to see they have some). But, thanks for the free publicity anyway!
I would have gone to my best friends dad's funeral, but its not our job to decide whether or not someone else should.
None-the-less, Stern is in the spotlight and everyone knows his moves, so he should have done it from a p.r. stand point. Its Gary for fucks sake Howard.

Howard addressed this in his show today. The wake was only scheduled for two hours, and Howard and Beth were on their way, but Beth fell down the stairs and broke her foot and tore some tendons.
Instead of going to the wake, Howard took Beth to the hospital. By the time the hospital released Beth (who was in incredible pain), the wake was just about to end. During this time, Howard called Gary and apologized for not being able to go, and Gary completely understood the situation.
Gary was annoyed that he had to defend Howard, citing the things Howard did since Gary told him about his father's death. They both lambasted Chaunce for lying to the Daily News.
As for the 14,000 fans cancelling, it refered to a thread created in Stern Fan Network about Stern not attending the wake. Apparently, about 4 O&A pests were posing as disgrunted Stern fans stating that they were cancelling the service because Howard didn't go to the wake. There were probably around 12 to 16 thousand views on the thread, which Chaunce interpretted as people wanting to leave Sirius.
As you can see, Chaunce is a liar and should not be trusted.
