Opie and Anthony to Syndicate to... Terrestrial Radio?

Opie and Anthony on XM Satellite Radio
It's Official: as of today Opie and Anthony are to be syndicated on terrestrial radio as announced on their show today. The buh-buh-buh-boys have in fact replaced Howard Stern on Citadel Communication's Syracuse station 95X WAQX-FM. You might recall the little drama between 95X and Stern - Howard was getting dumped out on mentions of Sirius Satellite Radio and his show was promptly being turned off at 10am. Well, it appears that they got so salty over the Sirius promotions that they have decided to side with XM instead.

The current trial period will air Opie and Anthony "best of" shows, but soon to follow this week will be Live (edited) syndicated content from the XM Premium Station.

Arbitron places Syracuse in market rank #79. 95X WAQX-FM is the 6th place station overall there. A decent sized medium market to serve as the terrestrial debut of syndicated satellite content (at least content of this caliber).

The syndicated shows will obviously have to abide by FCC indecency regulations, and will have commercials of course, but mentions of XM will most likely not be dumped out on. This a smart move on XM's part as they will not only get exposure for 4-hours a day attracting more and more regular listeners to satellite radio, but they also establish a 3rd party revenue stream.

Let the war begin!

of better yet, management told them that hardly no one wants to pay the premium to hear their radio show, so this is a last ditch effort. Otherwise their being pulled

O&A have state on their show that XM is very please with the subscriber numbers, so they're not in danger of being pulled.

You're obviously a Howard Stern fan, kwik.

Anyway, this is great news for O&A/XM fans.

I wish I could have seen the look on Howard's face when he heard the news.

An interesting announcement for sure... seems silly though considering one of the main benefits of Sat / subscription radio is to go commercial free and now programming is coming back around...

What a childish move by 95x. I'm sure that all those Stern fans in Syracuse will just love listening to these guys rather than Howard. Give me a break. I hope Howard sues thier ass for a breach of contract. And for you O&A lovers that want to bait Howard into mentioning thier names... tough luck he will say "some other radio show" or "goofy comedy bits" replaced him when he was on vacation. Face it people O&A will never be the household name that Howard is. They are both in thier 40's if they couldn't do it by now, they never will.

Dude, fuckin Howie is going to be 55 when he goes to Sirius - who the hell wants to listen to an OLD MAN talk about boobies all day?

Howie used to be funny. He used to be entertaining, but now it's just a 4 hour long commercial for Sirius and listening to his fucking political paranoia about how Bush is after him.

O&A were #1 in the drive-time slot. They were syndicated in 22 major markets across the country. Infinity didn't slot them in mornings because Howie would go and cry to Mel. WAH WAH WAH! Well guess what? No more protection for Howie. O&A will beat him and he'll go back to Mel and keep crying.

Howard should retire while he still has a good reputation. While he's still on top of the game.

Franky, Howard is 51 soon and will be 52 when he goes to Sirius. Who cares if he's in his 50's either. It'll happen to the best of us if we're lucky. Do you fault Hugh Hefner for bieng old and publishing Playboy? What's the difference? I would rather listen to an aging Howard Stern than a couple of pimply faced 40 year olds that sound like every morning zoo in every city.

Howie is going to sue 95x for breach? lol, wait until Howie gets the lawsuit for all the free 4 hour Sirius advertisements Howard broadcast.

Posted by: bucky dent at December 21, 2004 12:37 PM

Bucky dent, you obviously don't listen to the show. Howard might talk about Sirius two or three minutes a day.

Posted by: stan at December 21, 2004 12:55 PM

Riiight, and he doesnt talk about Bush all day either. Whatever stan, go eat a dick. You obviously suck Howard's cock all day long, so the shit you say is useless.

Tell me something... if Howie's so into this 'freedom of speech' bullshit he blabs about.. how come he shut down his message boards?

Posted by: Robin at December 21, 2004 03:40 PM

Howard shut down his messageboard because it was a sewer for trolls. People who did things like posting phone numbers and home addresses. I posted at many boards that were shut down for simular problems.
