SIRIUS to Provide Real-Time Traffic Data to Vehicles

SIRIUS Satellite Radio today announced that it will provide real-time traffic data to vehicles over its nationwide satellite radio network. The company has signed an agreement with NAVTEQ, a premier provider of mapping and traffic data reporting services, to offer consumers reliable traffic information in their vehicles.
The new service will provide consumers with regularly updated traffic information, such as accidents, scheduled road closings, traffic flow data or other traffic-related incidents to help them select the best available route. Traffic information will be integrated into new in-car navigation systems combining route guidance and mapping with traffic. Initially, the service will cover 30 markets and is expected to expand to over 50 markets.
According to company officials, SIRIUS automotive and retail partners have shown a high level of interest in the new service, and plan to offer it as a product upgrade for their upcoming navigational systems.

Isn't there a rumor that Sirus is planning on jacking up their prices? Howard Stern is somewhat respectable, but to charge people more money just to hear him, come on. I've been an XM subscriber for about two years, but I think both companies are about the same, just the price is what keeps me on XM. Go Opie and Anthony!

The Sirius CEO *did* say that he's expecting to raise prices - over the next several years - as they add more features to the service.
I didn't want to post about it because it's all too speculative right now. From the sounds of it, he wants Sirius to be something like OnStar where you can unlock your car remotely, etc. But we won't know for sure for a while at least.
I don't think they'll raise the prices just for Hoo Hoo ... but you never know.

Yo vic. obviously your getting the premium channel with O&A. that's an extra 2.00 a month. Sirius is only an extra buck a month, plus the fact that O&A arent even in the same ballpark as Stern.

I find Stern entertaining, but to say O&A aren't in the same ballpark is ridiculous. Stern gets the guests, but O&A are consistently funny. To each their own, but I think O&A deserve some respect.
