Satellite Radio Recording to iPod - It's Heeere!

Satellite Radio Recording to iPod
Time Trax Technologies will unveil at the CES 2005 Show a docking station that will enable PC users to schedule the recording of broadcasts and to save tracks, including the artist and title information, directly to Apple Computer's iPod.

Currently a Mac version is not in development.

To discourage recorded songs from being posted on peer-to-peer networks, the TimeTrax software embeds the serial number of the receiver into the track information, making it easy to trace the source.

Version 4.0 of the TimeTrax software, which will be available at the end of January, will enable listeners to scan satellite radio channels and record only songs by specific artists.

This will be the death of Satellite radio. Wait until the record companies complain

I don't know about that. People who will be recording this must pay the monthly subscription charge - and the built in serial number will help deter some people from sharing. (SOME people, of course the tag could be edited to remove it, but it'll stop a few from sharing).

The RIAA will complain about anything. I don't see that as being a big surprise.

If anything, this makes satellite radio more convenient. Download what you want, search through it, and listen to it on your own time. It's just time-shifting.

As much as I love my XM, I'm not sure I'd want to use this for much else than recording Opie & Anthony. It's cool but only for pograms that aren't musically inclined. IMO, the sound quality on some channels is just awful - it sounds like a 64kbps mp3. The NYC traffic channel was unlistenable this weekend - you just can't understand anything they're saying.

It seems Sirius and XM are both having bandwith issues, making some channels sound like crap. I hooked up my SkyFi in Vermont last week to a nice sound system and it sounded great, but with headphones using my computer, it's a big thumbs down. I'm not alone as the messageboards for XM are all complaining of the same issues. I can't speak for Sirius, but people say they're encountering the same problems.

Wow. I'm suprised and OUTRAGED that there won't be a mac version... WHY if iPods first came out ON MAC. This is how these horrible windows developers treat macs. I think steve jobs should force people to make a mac port or he won't allow it to be marketed. Anyway, the box is huge really. And I'm fine using the itunes music stor--*cough* acquisition *cough*.
