XM blows past 500,000 new subscribers (540k to be exact) for Q1!

XM Satellite RadioXM Satellite Radio destroyed all analysts estimates today when they announced adding over 540,000 new net subscribers during the first quarter of 2005 for a total of 3.77 million subscribers.

That's a 68% increase in new subscribers compared to the first quarter of 2004 (which was 321,675 new subscribers).

"This was the best first quarter in the history of XM," said Hugh Panero, President and CEO of XM Satellite Radio.

You can say that again Hugh!

Is Sirius gonna come out with their numbers? Probably not as many subscribers signed up with them.

Wow! Thats really amazing. what is their grand total now? I wonder if Sirius can match these numbers.

XM is at 3.77 million subscribers. Sirius had 1.14 million users at the beginning of the year.

Sirius usually waits 2-3 weeks to announce its numbers -- that seems to be the pattern.

The 540K for XM is pretty amazing for the first quarter following the holiday buying season. As car sales increase after the winter, the 2nd quarter should be huge. At this rate, they should smash their end of year target.

This was a smart ploy by XM to offer an annual subscription at the lower rate prior to their big rate hike on 04/02/05. By the numbers it looks like alot of people jumped on the XM wagon prior to the rate increase. Let the games begin since XM and Sirius are now at the same subscription rate.
