XM Satellite Radio 'tees off' with the PGA Tour
The PGA TOUR Network on XM Satellite Radio will debut June 9 with live coverage of the Booz Allen Classic at Congressional Country Club in Maryland. The upcoming tournament also marks the first time PGA TOUR galleries will be able to rent or purchase portable XM radios so they can hear live, comprehensive coverage of the action throughout the course.
The flagship broadcast will be Pure Golf’s live tournament coverage of PGA TOUR events. Broadcasts will be made on-site from the tournament site and be on XM 146 Thursdays through Sundays from noon to 6pm (Eastern time).
Broadcasts will not only keep the listener on the seat of their pants with the latest leaderboard and on-course action, but will be delivering a behind-the-scenes look into the PGA TOUR, tournaments and players with interviews and special feature programming.
XM’s PGA TOUR Network will also broadcast a Pure Golf morning talk show Monday though Friday from 8am to 9am in each time zone. It will review and analyze the latest happenings in and around the world of golf, as well as features and live phone calls from golf personalities and listeners.

At least it's not tennis or Martha Stewert.

damn. what a waste of bandwith. inside sources at XM tell me Sound Quality is gonna be lowered on all the music stations to make up for this

Please jim, give me a break. Your "inside sources" are non-existant at best. This channel will have no real effect on sound quality.

ha ha. This shut up all the XM fanboys. Golf on satellite radio is just plain retarded.

The big deal here is not golf on the radio, it's the fact that XM's Portable Units will be exposed at tour events. As for Sirius, I hear Tennis and Martha Stewart makes for GREAT radio.

haha. you guys kill me.
Golf a waste of time on satellite radio? Sure, maybe. But so is Horseracing.
It's all about the verticals. Specializing is what makes satellite radio rock. Sure, you won't find 2 million people subscribing for GOLF, but it's part of the entire package. You attract the masses by appealing to small groups.
Plus, you have to admit that it's cool that XM will be distributing MyFi's to people on the course to listen to the game. Half those folks can't see shit out there, so it adds to their entire experience (and is great exposure to a demographic with a ton of disposable income).

The exposure could be a good thing or a bad thing! I own the Mifi and the reception (even with the pen antenna) is absolutely terrible.
I agree with the point that its not about one thing or the other. Its all about content, whether its Martha, Tennis, or Golf! I am also a new subscriber to Sirius and let me tell you this, THEY ROCK!! The Mifi might be up for sale here shortly.

I drove by the Avenel course on the way to work today. Living not far from there, I can tell you that the sat and terr reception there will be flawless. On top of that, I'm sure XM will bring some type of portable repeater to be safe.
I may sign up for Sirius just so I can learn from Martha how to make an origami tart pan. I figure I can fold paper while I'm driving, like most drivers.

Well if you're thinking of selling your MyFi, I'd be interested in buying it. I want to replace one of my older SkyFi units.

Golf is cool with me
Anything is better than listening to Home Improvements from a convicted criminal. Or a hook nose loser like Howey
