FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein said Friday that he wants an "independent monitor" to ensure that Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. and XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. comply with the agency's conditions if they are allowed to merge.
The Commissioner said this in the Bloomberg Television interview late last week.
Adelstein, one of two Democrats on the five-member FCC, said he hopes to meet with the two companies

I so agree 100 percent with you enough is enough and if the merger gets approved with asnine conditions then I am done with satellite radio and will go to internet / I phone radio exclusively along with my slacker portable. I just want it to be approved with the companies willingesses only and nothing else but that wont happen because that jackass of a man David Rehr will pay everyone off at the FCC to make sure there are asnine conditions or no merger at all. And since 2004 I have been terrestial free and that will not change I will never ever again listen to terresteril since it sucks so badly now. Sirius / Slacker / I phone for life.

I agree with WWD that the FCC is supposed to monitor all wireless communication (tv radio etc.) and so they should be the ones who make sure everything the new company is on the up and up.. I'm thinking the 25% of the spectrum is Clear Channel arm twisting.. they HATE satellite radio but can't stand that they might not be included in the programming.. I like FSR on XM but that's as much of their programming that I listen to..

To me if HD Radio gets mandated then I will make sure terrestrial doesnt exist in my world I wont even have it on in the car , and I will make sure either my slacker portable comes with me or my I phone if I can get internet radio on it in the car which I still have not decided if I want one but that is a totally different discussion all together or if I cant get it bring my collection of stuff on it to listen so I dont have to listen to terresterial again.

Another thing too HD Radio I wont even buy one because it is just a up graded version of the same old crap that people get on terresterial gets same old songs over and over and 20 minutes of commericals along with DJS who talk way too much. Correction, cable TV prices go up quarterly and services get delete. Of course with FIOS becoming available those price increases have slowed down at least for me because I jumped ship to FIOS.
I find it funny that there is no mention anywhere (that I can find) how Martin was shot down my a 4-1 vote for a la carte pricing. Adelstein and the rest of them said that a la carte pricing would be bad for consumers.

The public comment period on this thing expired last year and that includes comments of the NAB, Congress, and the Three Stooges. Tell them to say YES to the FCC in legal terms, provisoning that
- OK 25% channels equalling 25% x 300 = 75 channels set aside, meaning ALLOCATED, not given away
- to be populated by those crowds of 75 minorities and what have you by 12 months, not later; If they are so longing for spectrum, they should hurry
- paying the normal lease for these channels meaning Siri/XM cost + a decent operating profit - whether they are commercial, generate income or not used at all
-pricecap for 6 years OK, YES, conditioned to economy factors, oilprices, birthrate, carsales, global melting etc. etc. whatever one can think of to contain the risk --
and go get this merger approved.

Sirius and xm have and continue to ignore agreements they made with the FCC and the consumer is the one who suffers. Not if that radio was plugged in and in use for any amount of time those old radio's get HOT, you could burn yourself before you even get to toss it.
The DOJ has already ruled that it is not a monopoly. So why should the FCC be able to mandate conditions to increase competion and kill SDARS (6 year price freeze, give away 25% of spectrum to minorities, and include HD in satellite receivers). This is government out of control. Adelstien and his cronies in the Senate should be kicked out on their asses. 300 days to make a lame decision like this is nuts. They all act like this is the biggest decision they ever made. They need to get off their arrogant butts and do something. Get on with it FCC. Stop wasteing our time and money.
