Stanford Group analyst Paul Gallant wrote in a recent research note that the merger between Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. and XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. is nearing a likely approval.
"We believe the Department of Justice (DOJ) is near a ruling on the XM-Sirius merger, and we reiterate our belief that it is likely to win regulatory approval," Stanford Group wrote in the report.
"As for timing, DOJ’s ruling could come any day now. Shortly after DOJ rules, we expect FCC Chairman Martin to recommend to his fellow commissioners the same outcome reached by DOJ."
It was also noted the opposition group meetings with the DOJ are likely a last ditch effort, and that this is usually parties who are likely to lose the battle.

Great picture, sheepish grin on the guy in back ground, ceo or whatever of XM, will be grinning all the way to the bank!!! I'm sure!!
I think Ryan just posts this every 17 days or so to keep us interested.
Yea he should be sucking on MEL's PeePee right about now if this actually does go through...for piggybacking him the whole way through the merger. Hope by month end we get an answer.
Hey Jeff are you on pot?
That is is Sirius´ Mel Karmazin knowing he was right...
Isaac
Gary Parsons is smiling because he knows who will be the REAL boss when the merger goes through....
This merger won't be approved according to my close sources within the DOJ...If it is the FCC plans to take away spectrum.
Yawn same shit different day, we heard this a year ago. I have noticed some stories get recycled over and over again, this being one of them. we will her this again in 3 months and again in 6 months.
After months of being yanked around by this story, I'll believe it when I actually see it happen.

"my close sources"..kill yourself
nice of you to join us Kevin Martin
At this point just wake me when it's over. I can't even count the amount of times I feel like I've seen an article similar to this ...
I am starting to forget who predicted "soon" when...For the love of God DOJ just let the companies merge and move on...you know whats NOT good for the consumer or competitive? Letting two companies sit over a year over a freaking merger decision involving two companies who total 2bill in revenue and control 5% of the market..If they diapprove of the merger after all this time, they should be forced to go work at a mcdonalds..Id like someone that retarded and thourough making me a a good ole cheeseburger..
You are quite right, ba. They should have turned down the merger 11 months ago and spared us having to listen to the stockholders whine every day for the last year.
Who's the nappy headed ho behind Gary Parsons ?
Now we need Homer to tell us how much he knows... and why XM is so outstanding... and what he said last year.... how sirius sucks ,,,,,, and how his calculations add up.
Bullshite.
Homer you don't know shite. Pack your bags son... the trash is being thrown out at XMSR.
I believe FCC will announce first. Maybe on the 4q results day for Sirius which is on the same day as the next FCC Open Commission meeting.

Yo Momma
I think that what the government needs is way more oversight of business to prevent them for being so evil. Maybe if we could string this out to 2 - 3 years (More!) that would show those mean, money grubbers how to take care of people like their customers.
To think, I actually purchased a Sirius radio 11 months ago on the assumption that I would have some access to the XM playlist soon. So soon that I have to soon renew my 1 year subscription and the deal is STILL not done one way or the other.
Does any DOJ employee involved actually think this is some sort of anti-competitive deal. The whole problem sounds political: "We know how we are going to decide, but have to take more than 12 months so that people will think we really tried to be fair." I need a job like that. I'll bet the DOJ offices have a stack of completed Sudoku books in the closet that they have used to kill the last 12 months.
Yes, I know I can expect a knock on my door tomorrow morning by 3 men in dark suits.
Sirius FOREVER!
cue up the video recorders..its time to smash some XM units again
the first time really showed them who was boss
"tell em fred"
Speculate, Speculate
Blind CC, Blind CC
Poll, Poll
It's that easy to be an analyst on this merger thing.
Can we just shut up about this already, I'm tired of reading this same "oh it might be approve or it might not" crap every other day. Wake me up when a decision is made.
I saw some of the XM flunkies at the Grammy's the other night (you know who you are). I can't wait for the merger to go thru so Mel can take charge and stop the plundering at XM. These bunch of yo-yos are starting to make XM look like Tyco.
It's so close to being approved?? so close you can wipe your ass with the paper it is written on..
