Anti-Satellite Radio Ad Campaign (here we go again!)

Terrestrial Radio SucksFirst Big Radio tried to attack satellite radio with their Hear It Here First campaign (which was perfectly countered with XM's Hear It Here Best). Oh right, sorry, Hear It Here First was a "pro-radio" campaign, not "anti-satellite radio" or anything. Sure. And that $28 Million spent in "pro-radio" advertising was worth every penny considering how many people continue to flock to satellite radio, podcasting and other alternatives.

So now it seems like terrestrial needs to turn up the heat. This time it's not about hearing anything first, but rather the message is: You shouldn't have to PAY for radio. (UPDATE: You can listen to the commerical spots here.)

I love it. Does the NAB realize that "pay radio" actually has a premium connotation? That highlighting this is actually benefitial to satellite radio? C'mon, Marketing 101 kids. XM tells you to Listen Large, and SIRIUS offers a Huge Gift in a Little Box, both positioning themselves as a superior product - meanwhile terrestrial scrambles to go on the offensive.

I'm not going to support one type of radio over the other. Personally I think both satellite and free radio suck. As a matter of fact when I'm in the car, its my chance to relax with complete silence. I don't even listen to the cd player.

Sirius Does Suck indeed!
Had it for approx. 6 months, and it just kepp on getting worse, between the lameass repetative playlists and the Asshole
phony DJ's, there wasnt much to listen to for 14 bux a month. saved the $$$
and now i got an ipod adapter for the car, lottsa different tunes and no JERKOFF Dj's!

Wow! Someone is a little hurt over satellite, maybe lost their job in terrestrial? Let's talk about the condition of terrestrial radio... Ok, so the same play list runs every four hours on 200 different channels? What about the farking commercials that run every 15 minutes for 6+ minutes at a time on terrestrial? What about the payola scams that have surfaced where mainstream media has shoved crappy artists down our throats for years? At least with sat rad, you have a chance to hear something different, not to mention all the sports on there. With a few tweaks, the system could really extend the personal touch, similar to iPod. All around, the sat rad systems are what's coming. If you're not paying for radio, does that also mean you have bunny ears on your TV at home? Get with the times man.

FM radio is compeletely unlistenable today. Sat has problems, but there is always something for everyone. Screw big Radio, they ruined it for themselves, and are getting their just rewards.

"This is a disaster...You people are XXXXxx. Not everyone wants to listen to the same old XXXXXXXt played on Sirius and XM. All they play is the same old mainstream XXXX. I am boycotting every product associated with satelitte Radio. I'm a FM radio listener and I also own Sirius radio, but never listen to it. I have listened to most of the stations (from Alt Nation to the Top-40 station) and all I can say is what the hell? They play the same songs EVERY 4 HOURS. The exact same playlist every 4 hours. Do you people really want to whipe FM off the earth? What would Radios be used for? Sirius and XM can shove their Satelittes right up their XXXXs. Especially Sirius."

Ignorance is bliss. Obviously you have never listend to XM radio. I get to listen to XM all day at work and it is vastly superior to sirius.

I guess you would fall under the category of schill, because you speak no truth.

These last comments must have been made by les moonves and joel hollander. Sirius is great, it's not repetitive that much and every channel is a different and fresh genre - not the top 20 crap that fm has to shell out one long boring stale commercial break after another. XM is great too. have them both.

The idiots are the ones STILL listening to FM radio... yes, virginia there's a reason its FREE.

You get what you pay for.

I love my XM radio. No commercials (not on the stations I like), no crappy DJs, no "kiddie approved" mornings DJs who are worried about the FCC. I'm an adult, I don't need all of my content funneled through censor so that somebody's 8yo won't hear something they shouldn't.

Give me a break. I have not listened to FM once since getting XM in my Acura. Enjoy whatever you listen to..

Repetetive playlists?

I just drove from Chicago to DC the long way (south to Louisville, through W.Va, and then up to northern VA). Satellite meant that I never had to listen to Preacher Bob because there was nothing else on. I also listened to the Bluegrass channel pretty much nonstop and didn't notice any repeats...same for XM Pops and Vox.

Methinks SOMEONE posting here is a shill for terrestrial...

Wow,
This is like blasphemy. First off, XM sucks. With all do respect to those people who put down Sirius, why? There are stations for new music, older music, and old music. With Sirius, I've heard many songs months before they are released with regular radio. What does XM have that Sirius doesn't have better? O & A? If i had to pay 50 dollars a month to listen to the Howard Stern Show, I WOULD! It's that great. Sirius is expected to suprass XM eventually, despite XM having a huge lead to start off with. As long as Howard along with superior programming continues to stay with Sirius, this is obviously the best satelite radio on the market. If you want to buy XM to listen to Oprah(i don't know who would actually listen to her) for 30 minutes, by all means, be my guest. Just know Satelite radio is completely superior to terrestrial radio.

I bought an XM PCR (the one that uses the PC for the tuner) about 18 months ago.

Now I have three XMs. Yeah, I pay the money. But man, I have a wider slection of music than I do from the clear channel clone, I don't nave to listen to sell out DJs broadcasting from 20-somethings watering holes on Fridays, I can listen to comedy channels, old radio shows.

I do know this for certain, terrestrial broadcast is dying. FM stations either play a single genre well, or botches the whole thing. Unfortunately, there haven't been many good FM stations since the early 80's.

With a sat radio, the listener has better control over what they listen to. I'll happily pay to hear what I want, without the commercials, thank you.

I tried XM and Sirius but got sick of them because the playlist was repetitive, like the guy above says. After a friend talked me into getting an iPod I havn't touched AM,FM,XM,Sirius since. I'm not trying to sell iPods, and havn't worked for any radio station. I'm a music lover, and hate listening to the same few songs over and over again.

I've had XM since last Christmas, and not the first FM wave has come through my speakers since the day I got it installed.

I'm rather amazed at the people who call me a sucker, tell me there is no way in the world that they would EVER pay to listen to the radio, etc. Then, they experience it and absolutely cannot believe that you get all that for under $12/mo.

The people that are so hostile to the idea have either never listened to it, work for a terrestrial radio station, or both. And I have no idea where that 'same song every 4 hours' comes from. Of course I have XM and not Sirius, but the playlists seem to be pretty deep. I recently drove about 9 hrs one way on vacation, and listened to maybe 4 different music channels along the way, and never heard the same song twice.

Terrestrial is free and worth every penny. Satellite is analogous to cable TV in that you get 200 or so channels which is physically impossible in traditional broadcast. Those 200 channels do not all play the same crap as the pathetic ClearChannel employee above insists. Furthermore the song and artist is displayed in satellite, so no worrying or waiting for the retard DJ to maybe mention it after the commercials. Since there are few to no commercials, they really have to dig deep to fill out the playlists, and it seems every day they dig up some forgotten gem I totally forgot about. If ClearChannel wishes to compete they are going to have to sacrifice both ad time and payola and that day is still a long way off.

Sirius is about the worst shit in the world - I just wasted 1 year of subscription money and the cost of the radio. Stern is the worst, an old wshed up has been. Save you money, it's all commercials, etc.

robogun you are a fag so shut up. Sirius is like the leader in satalite radio. And they might cost a lot but they are still the best.

There are so many cool songs out there. Why does XM play the same fucking songs over and over again? I don't need to hear Midnight Oil, Simple Minds or Oingo Boingo over and over again!
