The list of organizations filing comments with the FCC in support of the Sirius-XM merger continues to grow. This time around we have the Americans for Tax Reform, and the 60 Plus Association, who today filed a joint comment with the FCC supporting the satellite radio merger.
"This merger would create an appealing product for many consumers interested in multiple audio options," said Grover Norquist, President of Americans for Tax Reform. "The companies have broken new ground in offering consumers the ability to block channels and receive a credit for what they have blocked, without being forced by regulation to do so, therefore creating an alternative that will appeal to people of all age groups and sensibilities."
With the proposed a la carte offering (where subscribers can block channels they find offensive and receive credit back for that blocked content) Sirius-XM would be the first market-created a la carte system in the entertainment industry.
"The voluntary a la carte system these companies have pledged to implement is a prime example of the market working to attract new, family-oriented audiences," continued Norquist. "This is a testament not only to their commitment to families, but to the free market. No regulations were needed to impose this concept; it came about out of a void in the market they think exists.
Kudos to them for this interesting and bold step in a new direction not offered on terrestrial radio."

"The voluntary a la carte system these companies have pledged to implement" .... This I will believe when I see it.. They promised this before, and they promised recievers that pick up both companies signal and still there are no such things.. I pledge my support to try to find out who these groups and organizations are so I can boycott them, if they are relevant in my day to day life.. I say if because let's face it I've never heard of these... Am I living in a cave?? Who are these lot?
How come I have never heard of any of these groups in support of the merger?
I got an idea...
I am starting a new group.
The fat balding guys association.
And as president and cheif fat balding guy I will say...
I support the merger of XM and Sirius. :)
if this ala cart thing really is for real, can i have only the decades/pop/rock/Howard channels and block everything else? If so, that would be awesome to be credited for channels i will never listen to......i suppose i could say that i find "Siriusly Sinatra" and "Radio Korea" offensive if they only block "offensive" content......
"'This merger would create an appealing product for many consumers interested in multiple audio options,' said Grover Norquist, President of Americans for Tax Reform."
Boy, who WOULDN'T listen to Grover Norquist on the subject of the XM/Sirius merger? I mean, the guy was so right about how the Iraq war would go on all the Sunday morning talk shows.
Seriously, if this douchebag had any integrity, he'd shut the fuck up after the shit he spewed over the last several years.
If I wasn't opposed to the merger before, I would be now after seeing that Grover Fucking Norquist is for it.
I for one am blocking any foreign language channels and the raps channels. Oh and of course all the political channels.
Ryan, does it ever get old being as biased as you are in support of the merger? Do we need to read posts about every obscure group or person on earth that supports the merger? How in the world am I supposed to care if the "ATR" supports this ridiculous merger?
