Blue Man Group on XM
Blue Man Group recently visited XM's NYC studios at Jazz at Lincoln Center for the taping of an especially offbeat episode of "Artist Confidential."
The founding members talked about how the group came into being, and brought along some well-oiled members of the NYC team to partake in the enjoyment. Blue Man performed on some highly modified musical instruments, combined with a good dose of electronics and added in some vocals from Tracy Bonham as icing to the cake. The show was apparently a Vegas-quality show (which is actually a good designation nowadays), and I’m curious to hear how it translates to the radio.
Fun fact: Members of the Blue Man Group were among the first XM subscribers.
The airdate is TBA, but I've got some photos featuring the Blue Men themselves with Lee Abrams (who talks about the show at length in a recent blog post) and the always lovable Lou Brutus who also hosted the show. Both Lee and Lou are making some hilarious faces, well worth checking out after the jump...

Lee Abrams, Chief Creative Officer of XM Satellite Radio, looking especially apprehensive of his cerulean companions.

Lou Brutus, Fungus PD and part-time host of Artist Confidential, should win a prize for this shot.

The skyline of NYC/Central Park in the background is pretty amazing.

That stage area really does have an amazing backdrop. You might have seen it on the Ellen DeGeneres show when she's in New York.
I was lucky enough to attend a reception there to celebrate the opening of the XM's studios at Jazz at the Lincoln Center. Tony Bennett, India Arie, and Wynton Marsalis all performed at the reception... pretty amazing stuff. It's crazy for me to think that it was 2 years ago.
Anyway, if you want to see more photos of the NYC studios and reception, read this post.

I actually wrote about my tour of Sirius' Headquarters before going to XM's NYC studios.

XM's studios at Jazz at the Lincoln Center ?
Is this stage with the amazing NY skyline - an XM studio?
or is that the Lincoln Center - and XM used it a few nights?
I've never been there.

The view of Central Park is from the main performance hall, which XM uses for Artist Confidential shows, and JaLC uses it for performances, too. The XM on-air studios are located in a nearby corridor.

Well I for one have been to the Sirius studios. They are cold and sterile. Just like the programming on Sirius. It's nice they want peeps to pay that money every month for the same 150 song per station lists I can get on my FM. Yawn.

Nope, that isn't Lincoln Center. That's the (relatively) new Time-Warner building in Columbus Circle, which is what you're seeing outside the buildings with Central Park in the background. As you look out the windows, you're facing East down 59th St.
Lincoln Center is several blocks uptown (to the left as you look out the windows).

That is a nice space in the TW building. I don't think it's XM's exclusively, I believe they just rent it when they need it for a performance (I could be wrong though...).
XM may be known for hiring mediocre talent, but Lee Abrams is an exception. He is The Man.

I hate Sirius (terrible reception and lackluster programming) and wish I was an XM subscriber. But I'm stuck for now because I have been a long time Howard Stern fan.
I have to disagree XM hires mediocre talent. Ron & Fez are fantastic. Better overall programming on XM in my opinion too. Will be a dual subscriber if the merger fails. Really hoping it is successful so I don't have to pay for two different subscriptions. But I could care less about the Blue Man Group.
