Bubba the Love Sponge presented two checks on Thursday totaling $24,000 to the families of two local law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty. The Bubba the Love Sponge Foundation initiated the fundraising effort and contributed funds for the donations along with local businesses.
The checks for $12,000 each were presented to the families of Tampa
Police Corporal Mike Roberts, who was killed in August during a
confrontation with an armed suspect; and Polk County Sergeant Ronnie
Brown, who died in September following complications from surgery after
being wounded in an altercation with an inmate at South Polk County
jail.
With Thursday's donation, the Bubba the Love Sponge Foundation now has raised a total of $50,000 in 2009 that has been donated to the families of fallen police officers.
