DirecTV Delivering Live Local Satellite TV and XM Satellite Radio to Vehicles

Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at 4:39 PM

DirecTV in your car

DirecTV is now offering the same experience in vehicles as is offered in homes: live local news, weather, traffic, sports and other programming. Mobile customers with vehicles that have been equipped with a TracVision A7 mobile satellite TV system (launched today by KVH) can now receive the same local programming they get at home (which varies by market).

DirecTV Total Choice Mobile, launched back in August of 2004, is still the only satellite TV package created for use in cars, and delivers over 185 channels of DirecTV programming - plus live satellite radio via DTV's partnership with XM Satellite Radio.

While a cool idea - the $2,995 pricetag (which doesn't include the $45/month subscription cost), plus the enormous size of that disc, will prevent this thing from landing on Joe Sixpack's roof anytime soon.

XM Satellite Radio and Google Partner to Provide Targeted Advertising to Satellite Radio Listeners

Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at 7:14 AM

XM and GoogleGoogle has announced that they have inked a deal with XM Satellite Radio to provide commercial advertising inventory to XM's non-music channels through Google's dMarc service.

XMAfter months of trials, the new platform is now in full production for dMarc advertisers. Google AdWords' customers will soon be able to buy satellite radio spots when the dMarc platform is integrated into AdWords targeted in the fourth quarter of this year.

Back in March, it was speculated that this might happen - and I'm glad it has - this is very exciting news. I can see this combined with XM's upcoming Push-to-Purchase technology, and the next level of radio advertising being right around the corner. Targeted ads, combined with an immediate call-to-action and measurable conversion. Beautiful.
