Just a quick note, I'd like to give a special thanks to Orbitcast's sponsors for making this site possible. Please show them your appreciation for supporting us by visiting them and checking out what they have to offer:

  • JJI Electronics
JJI doesn't just sell both Sirius and XM radios at great prices, but also Garmin GPS products and accessories to boot. They also offer free shipping on orders over $50.
  • TSS Radio
TSS Radio has been selling Sirius products since 2004, and they're just as passionate about Sirius as you are. Add to that, they have some of the greatest prices on the net.
  • Satellite Radio Superstore
SRS sells both XM and Sirius products and accessories, plus vehicle specific mounts and a whole lot more. SRS is also one of the longest running satrad retailers out there.
  • TurnKey Media Solutions
If you're a business owner looking for music solutions, check out TurnKey. They provide both services without the hassle.
These sponsors show their support for Orbitcast and help make this site happen. If you enjoy what you read here everyday, please take the time to return the favor.

Thanks!

Please excuse the dust...

Work In Progress

Last week was the hard part: migrating nearly 4,000 articles, 25,000 comments and 3.5 years of heart & soul to the upgraded system was mighty scary business. But now I need to get down to the dirty work so we can all reap the benefits (speed, cool features, etc.).

Over the weekend there will be some major work being done behind these walls. So if you find a pixel out of place, a word or two off kilter, or a grown man wrapped in the fetal position muttering nonsense to himself - just ignore it.

Posts will continue as usual, don't you worry. But I can't guarantee the state of everything else.

Shameless plug: The Orbitcast Forums will remain unharmed during this, so g'head and party it up over there.

UPDATE: Yeah so, that was more difficult than I expected. I reverted everything back to the original code, so no fun new features for now.

One more week left to vote!

The Orbies
There's one more week left for you to vote for your favorite Satellite Radio channels, shows, and on-air hosts in the 2007 Orbitcast Awards (The Orbies).

Best New Device - The XM Xpress RC has a pretty significant lead over the Sirius Stiletto 2.
Best Kept Secret on Satellite Radio - By far this is the most active category, with High Society leading in 1st, followed closely by Than & Sam in 2nd place, and Ron & Fez in a distant 3rd place.
Best Music DJ - KB leads in 1st place, Zoltar in 2nd, with Kandy Klutch in a very close 3rd place.

Voting ends on Saturday, February 9th - so get those votes in before time runs out.

The Orbitcast Awards: Voting is now OPEN

Friday, January 25, 2008 at 5:28 PM

The Orbies

The first-annual Orbitcast Awards (aka, the "Orbies") is now open for voting. Your nominations have been submitted and now it's time to put them to the vote.

By far the categories with the most individual nominees are The Best Kept Secret on Satellite Radio and The Best Music DJ.

Best Music Show, Best "Go To" Channel, and of course Best Comedy Talk Show (complete with everyone's favorite smattering of shock-jocks) also received their own fair share of attention during the nomination phase. So make sure to cast your votes soon before they close.

Voting closes on Saturday, February 9th.

Remember, this is a 100% "People's Voice" award, which is completely driven by your nominations and your votes. Satellite radio deserves its own award to give the talent behind Sirius' and XM's mics the recognition they deserve.

So cast your vote today!

Wow, I guess I need an hour-long show

Friday, December 28, 2007 at 1:54 PM

Orbitcast RadioOrbitcast Radio was a complete hit, and did 10-times better than I ever could have expected. Thank you all for who called in, participated in the chat room (which is still booming right now as I write this), and especially who listened in.

This will definitely be an ongoing weekly show, and obviously I'll need to make it longer. Let's try 1-hour next time and see how it goes.

If you want to download the show, click here for the streaming or MP3 version. Or if you want, subscribe to the RSS feed so you can download it as a podcast.

Or try out the player below:

Again, thanks all for the incredible debut show, and feel free to comment here on your thoughts (such as: a better day/time, topics, criticism, etc.).

UPDATE: Here's a direct link to the MP3 file.

Nominations for the 2007 Orbitcast Awards ("The Orbies") are open

Friday, December 28, 2007 at 12:12 PM

2007 Orbitcast AwardsBefore I kick off Orbitcast Radio today, I also wanted to announce that nominations for the 2007 Orbitcast Awards (aka "The Orbies") are now open.

This is entirely a People's Voice award. There's no editorial influence or bias here. The channels, shows, on-air hosts, and everything else selected here is 100% powered by you.

Categories include:

  • Best Comedy Talk Show
  • Best Kept Secret on Satellite Radio
  • Best Music Show
  • Most Creative Music Channel
  • ...and much much more

I figure that since everyone else can have their own awards "show" - the satellite radio industry deserves one as well. There's some amazing talent coming from those birds, and it's about time that everyone on both Sirius and XM gets recognition for all their hard work and effort.

Nominations are open now, head on over and submit your favorites today.

Introducing the Orbitcast Forums

Saturday, September 1, 2007 at 9:11 AM

Orbitcast Forums

Here we go folks! Today is the official launch of the Orbitcast Forums.

I've always considered your comments and feedback to be an integral and important part of this blog (and so does the NAB), but the conversation has been limited to the posts. As a result, I've always felt like something was missing: the ability for the conversation to extend beyond the blog. For you to take control of the discussion.

That's what the Orbitcast Forums are for. There you can share, debate and - of course - spread rumors with the rest of the satellite radio community. And a place where both Sirius and XM fans, investors, and industry watchers have a voice. No egos. No power trips. No censorship. It's a place meant for open, free and (nearly) intelligent conversation.

As interesting discussions come up, they will be linked to directly from the main Orbitcast blog.

We quietly opened up the Orbitcast Forums last week as a "private beta" to gather some initial feedback from the community. Because again, I feel very strongly that a message board is nothing without its members and I want it to be the best it can be. So the forums have, and will continue to evolve over time.

There's a permanent link to the forums in the navigation bar up top, or you can access them directly at orbitcast.com/forums. See you there!

New Orbitcast feature to be unveiled (tomorrow!)

Friday, August 31, 2007 at 4:38 PM

Tomorrow, September 1st, Orbitcast will be launching a new feature that will conjoin a convoluted cacophony of confusion with a mashup of mass mayhem and madness. We've secretly been testing it out, and thanks to help of a select few readers, we're finally ready to launch.

But rather than have ME talk about it... let's see what others in the satellite radio industry are saying....

OMG! A NEW ORBITCAST FEATURE!!!111
COMING SEPT 1ST!!

...check back tomorrow, when all will be revealed.
