The Chrysler Group has announced that they're looking to install Sirius Satellite Radio in over 70% of their vehicles for the 2008 model year. This is up from about 40% for the previous model year.

Sirius will be included as a standard feature in the premium and mid-level price classes on most Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep 2008 models year vehicles.

Sirius will also be a 100% standard feature - a huge plus - on the Chrysler Sebring and Aspen, the all-new Dodge Challenger (pictured) and Nitro, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Commander. Chrysler includes one year of Sirius service with each new vehicle, and Sirius comes pre-activated, so you can listen to Sirius immediately upon delivery of the vehicle.

In 2006, Chrysler Group had sales totaling 2,390,585 units according to Automotive News (note: this figure includes Mercedes-Benz). So as a rough guestimate, we're looking at a potential of over 1.6 million Sirius installs as a result of this announcement. This is definitely good news for Sirius.

the 2 companies should really look to have a better retention program in place so they can up their renewal rates after these car promos end---Whats Ford looking at in terms of installs??

70% is fantastick, infact it will make the Sirius ramp rate appear to continue to fly! it will cover the upcomming churn from the 1 year promo's too. This is all good.

now... where is GM with XM? Where is Ford with Sirius? Where is Honda with XM?

I love the look of the Challenger. More even than the Ford Mustang... I'm sure reliability will be an issue, however...

This sounds good, and yes, XM needs to have their auto partners step up to the plate. Sirius has seemed to do well with Chrysler, but even their other automotive partners need to step it up.

I'm curious though, since the radios come preactivated, when do they actually activate them? I assume it's when the dealership takes delivery, which could be bad if the car sits for a few months. My mom bought a Dodge Ram in 2006 which had Sirius installed and activated...She was told she'd get a free year. Within two months, she came out one day to find the radio no longer got any channels and was no longer activated. Needless to say, she's not a Sirius fan anymore, but is considering maybe going with XM if she ever tries SatRad again at all. She did call Sirius's "customer service" and was told that obviously, her free year was up, and she needed to pay if she wanted to continue. Not a good way to retain customers...And yes, I know XM is guilty of crappy customer service as well.
