Cox Radio CEO accused of racist remarks

Cox Radio Robert Neil
Cox Radio CEO Robert Neil is under fire for some possible racist remarks he made following the Congressional hearing on performance royalties in radio last week.

Sam Moore, who testified at the hearing, is calling for Neil to be fired after the remarks.

Neil said: "I saw the (congressional) testimony yesterday, and the reality is a lot of those people would be sitting in a shack somewhere in a small town if it wasn't for the fact that radio supported their music when it was coming up.”

Following the remark, Moore became furious. He felt the term “those people” is a racist remark, and that Cox Radio - which owns 80 stations in 18 markets - has made their money from black artists for 40 years.

Some of Cox Radio’s best known stations are WBLI and WBAB in Long Island, NY and six stations in the Tampa, Florida area. All of them play music by “those people.”

Those people are always accusing ppl of stuff...

Hey hey! You and your people should just shut the hell up!

Those people, better known as "trouble makers" or "hip hoppers" are always complaining about something. They love to be on the news. Yip Yip Yap!

I mustaaa provide my reticulation, dejigulation, andaaaa promilication againstaaaa such a premature ejactulationaaaaa of the race card here.

I thought he was talking about country music.

I thought he was talking about country music.

BS. So I guess when there is a group of people you can't use the words, "those people" with out it being a racist remark.

How about this. " I was driving past a school and saw a bunch of teacher picketing. Those people are only hurting the children when they refuse to work through a labor dispute."

From that I guess I must have been talking about a a group of black teachers.

BTW from the looks of what Mr. Neil said I believe he was talking about all music performers.

Those People = Musicians

I would need the hear the inflection he put on the words, but for petes sake, how the hell does someone know the guy was talking about "african american" musicans? What about Jamacians? Mexicans? Peruvians? West Virginians? (Reggae, Mariachi, Pan flute, Bluegrass) What the Hell, He could be talking about Dave Groll?, Dave Mustane? Lemmy? John Ozbourne? As if any of these guys would have been successful in anything else?

Your kind!

You know, I really hate those people who watse time with these stories.

This only shows how non-racist America has become. When you have to hunt in nooks and crannies and accuse people who use non-racist words as racist, then America has come a long way. Assuming that he had racist intentions when he uses the words "those people", he is acknowledging the fact that the use of overt racist terms is socially unacceptable. Either way, it points out that America is a good place for all races PERIOD.

By the way I'm black and don't think he was being racist.

I am white and think he is a racist. You can tell, he has that David Rehr look.

Now that was not a racist statement I just made, I was just profiling.
