Crazy: FlyTunes adds AccuRadio, increases offering by 320+ channels

Flytunes

There seems to be no end in sight for FlyTunes. Earlier this month, FlyTunes announced a strategic partnership with various content providers - including NPR - to bring their channel count to over 160 channels.

Now they've gone and blown that figure right out of the water.

This week, FlyTunes announced that they've partnered with AccuRadio to make their 320+ radio channels available - for free - to iPhone and iPod touch users.

AccuRadio, which was recently nominated for a Webby award, is among the top Internet radio broadcasters in the world. It was founded by Kurt Hanson, the publisher of RAIN: Radio And Internet Newsletter.

"The move to the mobile Internet has been a big question in the broadcasting industry in the past few years," said FlyTunes CEO Sam Abadir. "Today's announcement ... proves that mobile Internet radio is now ready for prime time -- and I expect terrestrial broadcasters to follow this trend shortly."

The last part of that statement sounds like a not-so-veiled hint of what is to come.

Are we to believe that the NAB knew nothing about this? The DOJ, the FCC and and the NAB along with its hired guns in Washinton have dragged this merger thing long enough time for all of these other media delivery devices to come to fruition. Satrad has more competition than you can shake a stick at. Time for the FCC to get off the pot and approve the merger. They are bordering on criminal behavior by delaying it any further.

I guess the DOJ was right with their decision..DAH there is competition! It is strange how blind the FCC is though.

Can't they see that all this delay is harming sat-radio? It is unfair when regulators entrap companies this way. This merger should have been decided a long time ago!

I think that there must be a crime in all these. Both companies should sue or investors must.

When people can get 320 radio channels on their iphone what concessions does a merged satellite radio need? This is ironic and funny in a sad way.

If the FCC wants to see how bad this delay has been for the companies, it can only look at the stock price! After all this time even a positive DOJ decision was not good enough.
And they are talking concessions!!?!

Instead of saying thank you Mr. Karmazin for giving us the opportunity to keep XM alive and all those subscribers happy. You also gave us better price plans and a la carte!! Are all those good for the public interest? Hmmm... Let us think for more than a year... In a highly diversified radio market we can now talk concessions for diversity.. WHATEVER!

Screw Retail. When it comes to satellite radio, OEM and Internet is the way to go. Get the licensing agreements together and do it. I just made that sound entirely too easy.

This delay is nothing short of a criminal action by the FCC. Considering who are President is, and the havoc that he has wrecked on this country, it really shouldn't surprise anybody. These companies, and all of the investers should be compensated royally for incuring huge losses at the hands of the most corrupt administration in this nations history!
