As satellite radio penetration grows, Delphi recognized by JD Power - Orbitcast
Genesis Coupe InteriorDelphi ranked at the top of the AM/FM single CD player/satellite radio category for JD Power & Associates' 2008 Multimedia Quality and Satisfaction Study.

Delphi nearly won a second JD Power award for AM/FM multi-CD changer/satellite radio, but was bested by Clarion.

According to JD Power, new vehicles with satellite radio capability have grown considerably, rising to 55 percent this year alone. That's up from 39 percent in 2007, which itself is up significantly from 26 percent in 2006.

"New-vehicle buyers are looking for the latest technologies in audio systems and the presence of features such as satellite radio and navigation systems will only increase as manufacturers try to meet consumer demand," Allison LaDuc, JD Power's senior research manager of automobile product quality.

And Delphi did very well in terms of quality.

JD Power's study, based on 81,530 respondents who bought a 2008 model vehicle, evaluates an owner's experience with quality, design satisfaction and features of multimedia systems in new vehicles.

The survey research found Delphi scored a 2.7 overall in the AM/FM single CD player/satellite radio segment. The average score in that segment was 5.3. Since this is a measure of "problems per 100 vehicles" (or "PP100"), the lower scores indicate higher quality.

Delphi just missed a second JD Power award for AM/FM multi-CD changer/satellite radio. It scored a 5.6 - just behind Clarion's score of 5.4.

Key term there, satellite radio CAPABILITY. That doesn't mean anyone is listening, I've seen several cars sold that have satellite radio capability, but people still listen to their iPods, even if it's through FM transmitters.

People know about satellite radio alright, but that doesn't mean they care.
