Sirius XM App on BlackBerry
Orbitcast has learned that Sirius XM Radio Inc. will be releasing a App for the BlackBerry mobile smartphone within the coming weeks.
The tip explains in detail the availability of the Sirius XM BlackBerry App, including handsets that the app will be available in, and the release date.

Orbitcast has also confirmed much of this information with several other people familiar with the release.

According to the tipster - who only identifies themselves as a "Sirius Tech" - Sirius XM will begin offering its online listening service as an application on the BlackBerry during the month of January. This application is reportedly very similar to the application launched for the iPhone.

For the initial launch, the Sirius XM BlackBerry application will be available on the following handsets:
  • BlackBerry Storm 1 (Series 9530)
  • BlackBerry Storm 2 (Series 9550)
  • BlackBerry Bold (Series 9000, 9700)
  • BlackBerry Tour (Series 9630)
  • BlackBerry Curve (Series 8900, 8520, 8530)
Sirius XM on BlackBerry will be a "mobile extension of the Subscriber's paid Premium Online Service" according to the tip.

Additionally, 120 channels will reportedly be available through the app - this is the same number of channels currently available on the Sirius XM iPhone App. So, at this point, it's safe to assume that Howard Stern will not be available on the BlackBerry app.

Now if only we can get an Android app. That's what I'm hoping for.

i believe howard stern has been added to the i-phone app thru best of sirius..

FINALLY!! I can shut down my stupid Orb server.

It's so funny hearing pumpers say they wouldn't pay for data, but they cheer for apps that work via data connections.

I thought the point was that Data connections were to pricey? or was it that the data network connections were poor quality.

The truth of the matter is that Sirius/Xm needs to merge the websites and get out new products such as backseatTV, or at least add channels like sports and news.

It's lame that it's taking this long to get the stock price over a buck, when it should be $6.00.

Investors are tired of hearing about products that should have been out a year ago. CES was a flop, and nothing new is on the horizon.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzz. sleepy time for bonzo, wake me up when something good happens.

Damn, I just got rid of my BlackBerry. Will this be coming to Android phones too? :)

Juat to let all of you know...

I have the SiriusXM app on my iPhone and problems with the app have been widely reported across this site.

The software has never been refined to do a quality job of delivering Sirius programming.

Quality of sound constantly shifts from HIGH TO LOW because it cannot lock on a stream. In addition, for the exact same reason, it will buffer content and repeat it often when losing a signal and/or programming will skip all over the place.

....and this is with a WiFi connection. Imagine how much worse it is with a 3G connection.

This app needs to be greatly improved as I don't see any of the same problems with Internet radio apps that don't have nearly the same buffering problems the Sirius App does.

meh, too little too late. Everyone I know is using either Slacker or Pandora, neither of which are they paying a fee for - why would anyone now want to use this now?

the serv is just 2.99$ a month (if u have a already paying subscription)i think anyone who really enjoys music will and should get it.it beats pandora and slacker on programming and choices + news entertainment and talk.

Goatweed, you must not know many people .

GDMFSOB!

I just got a Droid and am ready to throw my existing blackberry in a drawer so I'd never have to use it again.

NJRonbo just because it has problems on iphone doesn't mean it will on Blackberry. We'll see. I'll also to be curious to see if it will run in the background, utilizing one of the few advantages BB still has over iPhone.

Excellent scoop Ryan! Way to go! Any word on an Android app? Any word on SkyDocks for Blackberry and Android phones?

Thanks man!

People have to be clear about these "apps" for SIRIUS XM. They are not meant to draw new subscribers. They are just a value add to existing subs or an added extra for potential subscirbers. If you have SIRIUS or XM in your car, it would be nice to be able to listen at work or wherever you use your blackberry/iphone. I can't see many paying $12.95 to listen to audio via a smartphone only. However in car, at home and at work is a good deal. This isn't exactly a tip...most people expected app to be released soon. It only took a few years. They should announce for android at the same time.

thank god ! They took my punk channel ! My Slacker custom punk channel can not be taken . SiriusFm be danmed .

NJRonbo just because it has problems on iphone doesn't mean it will on Blackberry.

You are correct. I can't make that determination.

However, by design, the SiriusXM app is crap compared to other streaming software apps that I use. SLACKER, PANDORA and WUNDERADIO all do not have the extensive streaming problems that the SIRIUSXM APP has. They don't constantly switch audio quality or skip music because it can't properly buffer like the SIRIUSXM APP does.

And do yourself a HUGE favor. If you want the SIRIUSXM app just to listen to music then look at oother alternatives such as SLACKER RADIO if they make an app for the Blackberry. Much better music quality. In fact, it sounds very close to CD (some will not be able to distinguish). The music is FAR, FAR better and you have full control over what gets played. Best of all, it's free. You have SLACKER for a few days and you won't want the SIRIUSXM app, that is, unless you want obnoxious DJs, constant jingles, Howard Stern or Opie and Anthony.

I guess Sirius XM have been working on bringing this app to BlackBerry longer but I was kind of hoping that with the fact that Android is an open source platform, that they might come up with something for that sooner... I guess not. Now we wait.

I switched from the Iphone App to Pocketunes App, and I couldn't be happier. Every channel tunes in, and none of the problems that the Iphone App had with disconnecting and thinking that I didn't have an account. Pocketunes is the way to go.

Oh, and to the guy that says that SiriXM beats Slacker or Pandora musically...clearly you either like "the hits" or haven't used either. Slacker is FAR better in every genre.

I love all these free things companies make. Pretty soon what will be the point of buying anything? Let's watch tv for free. Radio for free. If the product doesn't generate any revenue they wont make anymore. Oh well I still subscribe to Sirius because I find it better. I will still check this site because it applies to my interests. Unlike the many anti-fans that come here to stir the pot and bash something they do not like. I guess they have nothing better to do or do not care about actually working, but why bother everything should be free I guess.

Funny, XM released a BlackBerry app a couple years ago, and then (unsurprisingly) left it to rot.

It's sort of still available, but doesn't work on any recent device.

I dumped my secondary radio in favor of an internet subscription at $2.99. I just use Pulsar to listen, so any mobile apps that Sirius/XM is rolling out are gravy.

I am going to look at pocketunes.

That's another problem with the iPhone App -- it will
automatically stop playing every hour and ask if you
want to continue.

I realize it's a safety function for them for those that
accidentally leave it running all day, but for most of us that
want to listen continuously, it's a huge annoyance.

the sirius app nor the blackberry app doesnt come with howard

Let me guess, something else we have to add to our account, and DOES NOT include Howard.

Sirius is a nickel and dime company. (And I am a subscriber).

I also want an Android app since I traded in my Blackberry Storm for a Motorola Droid. I can use Orb to get the stream, but sometimes I need to take my laptop with me and can't have Orb running.

I have the xm app for my iPod and I LOVE it. I've never had the issues that Rambo said he's had. It's the only app I use everyday. Can't wait for the blackberry app!!!

Ryan,

You've been ripped off, identical article (posted 2 hrs later)...no credit given:

Just thought you should know.

XM Radio Mobile for the Blackberry is NOT XMRO. It's only 20 music channels, and none of which are synced with the full XM Radio service (i.e., different songs at different times).

Wow it took them long enough

Wooooaaahhhh! Did some of you say you are still using Orb for streaming XM from your PC to your phones!? I had used UXM/Orv to stream XM for a long time, then it stopped working becuase XM changed thier url's and UXM was no longer maintained so i thought I was SOL until a Blackberry XM App came out for the Storm or we got a Flash player for our BB's and could use the XM site to stream to the phone.....so I cancelled my XM account for the time being. How are you still using UXM and Orb now?!

Judson

If you used Orb, try XMtuner (http://www.pcfire.net/XMTuner/). It saved me when uXM stopped working.

Judson, there is a replacement for UXM. http://www.pcfire.net/xmtuner/

I was listening to the Alt Country channel on Slacker today. Wow, SXM just doesn't get it, Slacker blows Sirius and XM away, at any time since conception. Outlaw country is a genre in itself, Slacker has a channel for it, and it ain't Alt country. SXM doesn't evem have a prog rock channel.

Now that Slacker caches on Iphone, this development of SXM on Blakcberry is irrelevant for music lovers. Good for Stern and Oprah lovers.

Thanks for the info guys! I still can't get the new XMtuner to work though. :(
It says "Error downloading channel data".
Any ideas?

I phones are Crap in the first place. Its no wonder why it does not run correctly. Not to mention why would you want it on an Iphone when you cant even do anything else while the SiriusXm app is running? Worthless

i spoke with someone in corporate regarding a different matter, and she happened to mention the app would be released feb. 4th.

anybody heard any info on this? it's the last day of the month and I still see no bb app?

Yeah....that's all well and good...WHEN AVAILABLE FOR BB CURVE 8330 AND OTHERS OF ITS ILK? If you (or anyone else) have (has) a good answer for that, pls respond directly to my email [akabear2@cfl.rr.com] rather than just to this forum..thanks
