Maurice Jones-Drew
Forget about getting a dedicated punk channel or finally signing MLB for the Sirius side of the satellite radio service. Nope, Sirius XM Radio Inc. are instead giving you what you've all been clamoring for - a channel entirely for fantasy sports!

Complete with live daily fantasy programming hosted by a slew of fantasy sports experts, and sports icons like Maurice Jones-Drew and Steve Phillips, this channel is sure to please.
Sirius XM Fantasy Sports Radio (XM channel 147, Sirius channel 211 for subscribers who purchase the "Best of XM" package) debuted today and covers a full range of fantasy sports, including football, baseball, basketball, NASCAR, hockey, soccer and golf.

The channel will offer live programming every weekday and will feature a lineup of talk shows hosted by a roster of fantasy sports experts, including Jacksonville Jaguars Pro Bowl running back Maurice Jones-Drew, former MLB general manager Steve Phillips, nine-time NHL All-Star Jeremy Roenick, golf analyst Alex Miceli, NBA veteran Dennis Scott, plus experts from well-known fantasy brands RotoExperts.com, RotoWire.com, FantasyGuru.com, FanBall.com and FantasyPros911.com.

You can find out more information about the channel on the Sirius XM channel page where you can also vote for the naming of Maurice Jones-Drew's show (which debuts in August, and will air every Friday at 7pm ET).

I'll admit it, the idea of a Fantasy Sports channel will appeal to the growing masses of addicted fantasy sports players, but I see this as more of a series of shows rather than a dedicated channel. There's plenty of other areas of vertical content that consumers have been begging for since the Sirius XM merger that could have been addressed ahead of this one.

What do you think? Will a fantasy sports channel be worth it?

Or better yet, how about bringing back a Saturday Night mix show on the Strobe .

I don't think MLB on the Sirius side of things is going to happen .

Major League Baseball is a s.o.b. to deal with. Dish Network doesn't carry MLB network .

I'm biased since I'm one of the fantasy sports addicts you referenced, and if you're not into fantasy sports, that's all well & good too. But don't be so quick to be dismissive of it to punk music.

I don't know if you can compare whether its more deserving to have a dedicated channel either.....they're apples & oranges.

However with an estimated 30+ million people playing fantasy sports in the US & Canada, and with an estimated $3-$4 BILLION dollars of annual economic impact that is due to fantasy sports, I think there's a MAJOR argument that can be made in favor of having it. That's something Sirius XM might like to tap into.

Plus if you factor in that the average fantasy sport 'player' is somewhere in the adult male 18-49 range, that's kind of the market that all radio wants numbers in, right.

If you ask me, I LOVE this new addition to the lineup, and I LOVE that it's on the XM side. (Since I'm an XMer).

I've been annoyed ever since they cancelled Sirius Punk for no good reason. Faction sucks.

Faction does suck, and we DO need a replacement for Fungus (or whatever the pre-merger punk channel on Sirius was), but I like this move. The whole point of satellite is to provide content that terrestrial radio will not. That's exactly what this addition does.

Why is this only being offered on the XM side and the Sirius subscribers are getting fleeced?

This seems highly unfair, and a poor business decision to alienate half the customer base.

New channels should not be proprietary to the XM or Sirius side, they should be available to every subcriber. It is called Sirius/XM right?

Why do I have to pay extra for a brand new channel while XM subcribers get it for free?

This is ridiculous!

Another in a long line of awful business decisions from Sirius XM. This channel may be OK, but NHL and MLB already have (at least had) fantasy shows on their stations. What more could we need? Bring back Beyond Jazz, make Outlaw Country something that could at least come close to satisfying disillusioned X Country listeners, bring back the much-demanded Fungus format, stop endless repetition and get your heads out of the sand on the decades playlists, make the Blend AC again, play something other than Foreigner on Classic Rewind ... many things could have been addressed ahead of this.

I agree with you, most of the new channels that have come up(not to say all of them) are under the regular XM lineup not to mention that the Best of sirius programming is way much better than the Best of XM...they should combine everything once and for all but then again that wouldnt do so good to bussines since making sirius customers paying $4 extra every month...highly unfair in my opinion

Talk about an idea past its prime. If this were 1995, I could see a weekly program or two on one of the existing sports channels but, geez, the fantasy craze died more than a decade ago. Let it rest.

Crap like this is why a few days ago I called and cancelled my last radio. Anything I really want I can get on the internet already, for no extra charge.

Well this is ok with me but I am not really interested in it. I would much rather have Fine Tuning back.

@Anon Funny calling MLB hard to work with because DISH won't carry it. DISH is the Mr Pink that won't tip on a cup of coffee. MLB required carriers to add their MLB network to have access to Extra Innings. DISH stepped over a dime to save a nickel and said no, and now has neither Extra Innings or MLB network which is receive rave reviews from baseball fans. Add that into the fact that DISH also has no Sunday Ticket and it's obvious that DISH simply sucks when it comes to sports.

As for a Fantasy Station, I think it's great. Sadly it's come to late as the MLB and XMSN stations where previous fantasy shows were located have since been ruined by the merger.

I agree 100%. This sucks.
