Lawmakers order FCC to stand down; put actions on hold

FCC Chairman Kevin MartinSenator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) and Representative Henry Waxman (D-CA) today called on FCC Chairman Kevin Martin to put the agency's actions on hold unless they are urgent or required by law.

Rockefeller's and Waxman's committees both have jurisdiction over the FCC.
The two lawmakers said the FCC should focus on completing the broadcast digital TV transition next February, but not on unrelated matters - particularly any controversial issues that the Obama administration will want to review.

The agency would have to halt consideration of most items before it, and that very well could include items that would be covered during the FCC's December 18 meeting.

On the agenda for that meeting includes the WCS-SDARS terrestrial tower interference issue. See below for the full item description:

TITLE: Amendment of Part 27 of the Commission's Rules to Govern the Operation of Wireless Communications Services in the 2.3 GHz Band (WT Docket No. 07-293); Establishment of Rules and Policies for the Digital Audio Radio Satellite Service in the 2310-2360 MHz Frequency Band (IB Docket No. 95-91; General Docket No. 90-37); Sirius Satellite Radio, Inc., Request for Special Temporary Authority to Operate four Satellite DARS Terrestrial Repeaters in Alaska and Hawaii

SUMMARY:  The Commission will consider a Report and Order and Second Report and Order concerning proposed revisions to the service rules for mobile, fixed and base stations in the Wireless Communications Service (WCS), and proposed service rules for terrestrial repeaters to be used in conjunction with the Satellite Digital Audio Radio Service (SDARS).

If the FCC indeed must stand down (an FCC spokesperson said they are reviewing the order right now), then the WCS-SDARS issue - and even the HD Radio mandate - would likely be put on hold until the new administration moves in.

No worries, it's not like he does anything anyways.

It's like sending a kid to his room, but the room has an Xbox, TV, internet, phone. He's been playing in his room the whole time.

Oh wait, he did distroy an industry. I guess that's something.

This is just the begining. Wait and see what will be next. I meet with the new Chair Henry Waxman the first of next year. savesirius.org

Where is the FTC and the FCC during this SIRI XM stock manipulation by Mel and his assoiates . The FCC has already let the common stockholders down , by being incompetent and indesivive on passing the merger . I think a lawsuit will be justified .
On January 22, 1997 SIRI stock was $6.30 per share, stock mkt value 10 billion ,XM stock was 27.54 , stock mkt value was 9 billion . XM had 6 million subscribers , double of SIRI. Today this stock should be 3 to 5 times worth what it was in 1997,approx. 60 to 90 billion. The debt of this company is no problem, and by Feb.09 Goldman and Mel will pay it with the money they took while shorting it.
During the stock holders meeting ,we would like the board of directors to look into the following. An increase in the stock price, a small reverse split if at all,Sue the fcc for thier incompetence, and have the ftc look into the manipulation of SIRI by Mel, Goldman and the BOD.

This is simply a long overdue vote of no confidence in the FCC- not that Bush's SEC, FDA, Dept of commerce, labor or defense did anything competent either. Worst administration in US history.

As far as the comments about stock manipulation, they are laughable and only demonstrate the ignorance of the author. What a joke.

Hartlieb's another story- six minutes of fame, at least. Where would you be without Orbitcast?

I hope they go after iBiquity and HD Radio - Obama rocks!

Hartleib put all his eggs in ONE big satellite radio basket, then a Big Bad Recession hit and everyone sold their stock.... Now poor Hartleib is left with just rants on a blog......... Wow are you a pain in the ass. You cost the very company you dearly love MORE money.

WHAT Exactly would you like them to do??

Well not totally correct I had a lot of eggs in other baskets as well, but none with such corrupt management. Some were incompetent such as management of Sprint, but no others violated Federal law as far as I know? Some have suggested that I would face a counter suit I wonder where it is. You see when you state facts it is difficult to sue .If I have cost this company as much money as you suggest why would Sirius not try to recover? I think the Board would be well advised to go after Mel and his pay package rather than waist time with a so called “unsophisticated investor” like myself. As far as Orbitcast it is a very good site.
