FCC's McDowell on the Sirius-XM merger status

mcdowell.jpgJust a quick bit from FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell on the merger's status at the FCC, since I know everyone is falling apart from merger-fatigue.

"I don't have a fully formed view just yet," said McDowell to B&C, but suggested that he looks at it as a market beyond just satellite radio.

"I'm a free over-the-air radio listener," he said "I'm too cheap to subscribe to XM or Sirius." Adding that, if you're under 30, you are listening to an MP3 player in your car or wherever. "So that is the audio market in general."

But it's still not cut and dry just yet... hence the lovely delay in making a decision.

"There are other public policy implications, either going from two to one in that kind of business or reversing prior commission policy."

McDowell added that he is still "asking questions" about what the audio markets is, and what is national vs. local.

That's typical Government "talk-a-lot and say nothing, do nothing. Waste of time.

If it takes FCC Commish McDowell over 6 mionths to make up his mind, the US gov't is worse off than I thought. And he is supposedlly on the merger side!!!!!

Give me a break. Just more manipulation bythe MM's. JMHO.

just some info on this::::

The FCC has assigned 20 MHz of 2 GHz MSS spectrum to ICO, with geographic coverage of all 50 states in the United States, as well as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

McDowell says he's too cheap to pay $12 a month for sat. radio??

Hope the dude is married. Because he ain't gonna score with the ladies making comments like that about his stinginess. :-)

As far as WHAT this comment means to us waiting on the merger...GOD ONLY KNOWS.

I'm still a believer that the merger is going thru...but this whole process has passed the absurd , leapfrogged the ridiculous and jumped head first into the abyss of INSANITY!

It'll happen when it'll happen. I don't think I can read another blurb about it anymore. :-)

maybe it will be more appealing to him at 6.95, providing they give the green light.

this guy looks like he fondles animals...

It sounds like someone who ol' tombstone teeth doesn't have in his pocket regarding the merger is finally speaking out. Hopefully the rest of the FCC is thinking like this. A merger at this point is only good for the stockholders. Anyone who tries to justify that it is good for the consumer is probably a shareholder and a liar.

XM shouldn't have to merger with Sirius because Sirius spent too much money on content. Screw them for makind a bad business decision. Leave my XM alone.

Dear FCC, how is having 2 satellite dishes better than having 1?

Wow this stupid merger shit could drag on for years, good thing the Government doesn't have any really important decisions to make, oh wait they do. It shows that you can't depend on the government to do anything, they are absolutely worthless!

tahts BS...there good at taking your money, wasting your time, killing your children in war, taking advantage of other countries, taking away your freedoms, lying, manipulating...

I guess the Commish isnt an Orbitcast reader.....if he was he would be up to speed on alot of these "questions"

Merger? What merger? I stepped out for a year to get some milk. What did I miss?

amen Squeaky wheel thats freakin funny

our country's decisions are in the hands of morons

dood, they're gonna drag this on until both companies' stock is worthless and they go bankrupt. Somebody's certainly got the FCC in their pocket. it sounds like he's finally looking at this on a global scale tho and examining the bigger audio market.

why he/they didn't figure that out over a year ago, is frickin beyond me!

"this guy looks like he fondles animals..."

bahahaha!! ya he duz!! dats frickin funny too.
