FMQB's e-QB cover story this week features an in-depth interview with XM Satellite Radio's EVP of Programming, Eric Logan (aka, the famous E-Lo). It has some very intriguing insight on several of XM's programming, including the launch of Oprah & Friends, the NAB's ruthless attacks on satellite radio, XM's programming strategy and his relationship with Lee Abrams, and the dynamic of working with the dual-syndication of The Opie & Anthony Show.
On Oprah & Friends, Logan addresses the promotional clout that Oprah holds, but how her edorsements need to be transparent. This is interesting because Oprah knows she can't be a shill about promoting her radio endeavor - her audience (and the media) will see through instantly. But I digress - this isn't about Oprah - it's about E-Lo.
On the NAB's attacks on satellite radio, Logan said, "...you know, this is a very big business. We’re going to turn cash flow positive in the fourth quarter of this year, and much to [the NAB's] chagrin that’s not what they want to see happen, but unfortunately it is." Nice.
On Opie & Anthony's dual terrestrial radio/satellite radio syndication, Eric Logan said, "...we’ve structured a deal that is beneficial to XM and helps us brand our service to millions of people we couldn’t otherwise access because of certain complications with buying time on local radio. This provides us a terrific branding platform."
There's much more in the interview to read, and summarizing it here does it no justice. Go check it out for yourself, it's well worth it.

Why do you have a pic of my paperboy ?
What the hell does a 27 year old know ?
Glad to see opie and anthony are still failing, I mean they only took up alittle less then 1/2 of the interview. Keep failing away guys..
Logan is a great guy. He spends times with his fans and is just straight up cool. A very big thank you to the amazing programing you have put together Elo. Keep it up. You have a fan for life.
Great read. Sounds like E-Lo might want to lick O&A's assholes though.

you are kidding right?
(XM Satellite Radio's EVP of Programming)
did you miss that part. why would you NOT expect the EVP of XM ....XM....XM.... to talk about O&A.
this is not mainstream press or something bigger. not sure how this is a guage of how well they are doing.
"E-Lo" is next on Oprah's woop list. Hugh's taking alot of the bitch slappin these days, but "E-Lo" aka the tool has been warned the HNIC Oprah is not happy and he's next. I've seen all the programming for dummies books all over "E-Lo's" office but "E-Lo" couldn't program a public radio channel, "E-Lo" is so out of it he thinks o&a have talent. Oprah knows and is not happy.
how about this PNess....find us the last time anyone interviewed the head of programming for sirius.
Eric Logan has been interviewed any times by many different media outlets.
I cannot seem to recall any interviews by his counterpart at Sirius.

He most certainly knows how to run programming....
before he was hired by XM that's what he did for ( don't quote me) 7 years straight. He was born to do it.
Besides, he's a great guy.
27 huh? I didn't know he started in radio at age 12?
DAMMIT... my math sucks today... age 8.
Im in my mid twenties. And i can assure you. Scott Greenstein is the last person i want programming what im listening too (had enough of that shit on FM). But maybe your just old.
umm you do know this review was with FMQB not the NYT right.
lets try again. can you show me a mainstream outlet where he was interviewed?
besides you don't want to talk about publicity of sirius vs xm again.
the 60/40 split on sales last Q sure shows who has the better brand name in the last 3Q's. lets be realistic.

Isn't Howie and the zombies always saying that O&A are failures to XM and XM doesn't care about them?
""Logan is a great guy. He spends times with his fans and is just straight up cool. A very big thank you to the amazing programing you have put together Elo. Keep it up. You have a fan for life.""
Sr. Vice presidents of programming DO NOT HAVE FANS!!!!
XM doesnt only care, but they will be fired in October.... last October, and this October. Next October also?
E-Lo is a great person and one of the most talented executives in the radio industry. As someone else said he actually cares about his fans. He helped pioneer the bbboys deal with Free FM and as a result all of us pests will always have a lot of respect for him. He is one of the biggest reasons why XM continues to grow and be succesful while sirius is doing very poorly because of the over-paid elderly disc jockey that they spent all their money on.
I like this guy, he sure knows how radio works.
E-Lo is the man and is one of the few who actually get the bbbbbbboys.
