Fox Business Network dropped from Sirius XM - Orbitcast

Fox Business Network dropped from Sirius XM

Fox Business NetworkFox Business Network, which was only added to the XM dial in June, was quietly dropped from the Sirius XM Radio lineup last week.
According the Media Bistro, the Fox Business Network was dropped from the XM lineup effective December 27th with little fanfare except for a blurb on their website (which has since disappeared).

The site originally read:

As of December 27th SIRIUS XM Satellite Radio no longer carries FOX Business News XM 136. Check out our other business channels, CNBC Sirius 129 and XM 127 as well as Bloomberg on Sirius 130 and XM 127. We also offer compelling Fox news programming on FOX News XM 121/SIRIUS 131 and FOX News Talk XM 168/SIRIUS 145.

If you have comments or questions feel free to call customer care at: 1-800-XMRADIO/ 1-800-967-2346.

The all-business network's run on XM was short-lived to say the least, having joined the XM dial just six months ago. Former EVP of Programming Eric Logan said at the time, that the signing of the Fox Business Network was "the latest milestone in a long and productive partnership between FOX News and XM."

And while it doesn't appear that the relationship between Fox and Sirius XM is in jeopardy, the fledgling Fox Business Network looks to be another casualty of cost-cutting measures.

I'd miss it if I had ever heard of it.

To me, this does not seem like a bad move. I usually listen to CNBC for this type of programming, and from what I heard the Fox offering pretty much duplicated that, so if this frees up some money and bandwidth for other stuff, so be it.

What is disturbing is without warning you're favorite channel can be gone the next day.

Can't say that I'll miss it, mostly due to the fact I never heard it. However, if the picture of the three exec-type women above is any justification of the personalities...a bit of me, as a male, is sad.

If they ever get streaming video working I'm all for the Naked News.

This isn't really surprising, the TV channel as a whole is on life support. CNBC and Bloomberg have the market wrapped up.

Renegotiate the last two years of Stern's 100 million dollar contract $$$ and get Fox news back for the next ten years.

Oh MY GOD, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

First The Strobe... and now this! The end of civilization as we know it is fast approaching!!

Don't be surprised if Murdoch rolls up the whole enterprise- it hemorrhages money, and it is not getting any traction on the cable systems.

They should run Bloomberg 24/7 instead of cutting it off at five- great station, far better than CNBC's yappers.

No thanks . I'll take Sue Herera on CNBC .

Old Jay Leno joke :

Q : What do you call yourself , when you lose all credibility ?

A : Fox News Channel

May not seem like a big deal to most but my top six presets included the punk channel, old school rap and fox business so this just adds to a sucky year. At this rate, once Stern leaves, I'll be leaving too. I don't understand the rationale at all. Cable and Satellite tv have been successful because there's a zillion channels. Some appeal to a small percentage of people, but it's knowing that they're there that keeps you satisfied. You'll never post good 'numbers' on these channels because the nature of it is that you continually flip. What a disappointment.

Fox Business Network dropped Sirius XM. Better get used to it. More and more content providers and talent are going to drop siriusxm. There is no benefit to content providers and talent to stick around and wait for the soon coming end of siriusxm. Just more facts which point out siriusxm is through.

Is this loss of a channel another "benefit to subscribers" of the merger?

THAT'S IT, if they don't bring back Fox News Business I'm going to CANCEL!

Karmazin will RUE the day I headed for the door with my $25/mo and 3 subs. You watch. When I cancel, the stock will most certanly drop, and it will all be MY DOING!

BA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

/sarcasm off.....

Now, please drop Cosmo, bring back Disorder!

As I said above, this is not a channel I listened to very much, but I do think it's a big deal to lose a channel you liked.

Mildly humorous sarcastic comments notwithstanding (the BA HAHA... part was the best), the attitude of this company does seem to be that programming is rather expendable, and subscribers will just have to take what they get, sort of like kids eating in a school cafeteria. We know our $25 cancellation isn't going to stop the world, but with this company's financials, I would think every $25 would help.

And what of this comment that Fox Business News dropped Sirius XM? Do you have a source for that? I can't imagine why they would do that.

I will miss the guy with the British accent that always seemed to be on and hearing the voice of the beautiful Jenna Lee. Oh well.

This appears to be a legitimate synergy, nothing more or less.

Neither XM nor Sirius WANTED to carry Fox Business; basically, Fox insisted they carry Fox Business as a precondition to carrying FNC. Sirius actually pulled the plug on FNC briefly, until they were overwhelmed with cancellations and forced to accept Fox's terms.

Now, with no competitor, they can tell FNC they don't want to carry the business channel. And for what they are paying FNC, they have the teeth to insist.

While I've been doubtful about the content synergies materializing, it does appear this could be an example. Not a big one, but nevertheless...

Forum Goon, that's not sarcasm, that's exactly what's happening. Except the stock drop, it can't go any lower unless Mel somehow makes it that by owning the stock you actually owe SiriusXM money.

Look- with the market dropping the way it has, the station was doomed from the outset as far as getting good take-up. They couldn't have picked a lousier time to release a station like this.

Again: you will probably see FBN dropped from cable within a year, if that long. It's a dog, and it isn't getting anywhere.

I was surprised to find that this is actually a great station, especially over the last four months as the stock market has tanked and Billion Dollar bailouts have gone out to banks and car companies. Fox Business was really entertaining and informative. CNBC is great to watch as they run a stock ticker on the screen, but Fox Business made for more entertaining radio.I only bought this XM service to make a couple of cross-country road trips more bearable. Now that the long-distance driving is done, I will cancel this service. Sirius has ruined it for me, with their tinny music sounds on most stations, cancellations of stations like Fine Tuning and Fox Business, and th addition of too many single artist channels like E Street, Margaritaville, and Grateful Dead (!).

Is this the channel with Liz Claman? I guess I should have listened more, or ever.

There are so many shit channels on the service, I don't even know where to begin.... Maybe all the Canadian channels should go first... they DO have their own network.. How about ALL non English speaking programming? We are broadcasting to US citizens. How about these losers.... OPRAH, Cosmo, Martha, Foxhole.... These are NOT broadcasters and it is garbage and a waste of money... Seriously, does anyone listen to any of the channels I just listed??

It is a start.

Oh yeah 0.0 to.o

Mr. Rupert Murdoch does not lose, and he doesn't tolerate people like Melvin Alan "Mel" Karmazin calling the shots especially when it's actions against his company. siriusxm has no better bargaining position than they did before the "merge" MONOPOLY. siriusxm is the toilet of the media industry and it's final flush is coming within the coming year.

Hey Anonymous Coward is back.. What's up dick-wad?

You must have had XM and you obviously didn't get it for Stern, so stop lying. There also bringing back your old school rap channel so stop bitching. I bet you don't even have Sat radio.

Mrwirez,

You are so right! The shit channels have multiplied like over sexed rabbits, and they need to be tossed into the shit pile. I am finding it much more difficult to find good songs to listen to, and the non music channels you mention are a waste of time and bandwidth. They have dumbed down the service, and they better start listening to the irate subscribers or they are going to be looking at some major churn. I find myself skipping every 10 channels because they are useless.

Yes, it does look like Anonymous douche bag has resurfaced, and he must have no life whatsoever - he spends all his time having anxiety attacks over little old satellite radio. What a pathetic pain in the ass. He sounds like a member of the NAB (Nitwit Asshole Basher).

keith olbermann (just as an aside, msnbc has been picking up steam this year. they should include that channel in the lineup) gave a pretty remarkable stat reguarding fox business:

for fox business to catch up in terms of viewership to cnbc, at the current rate of growth at the time, it would take somewhere around 79 years to accomplish that. this also assumed that during those 79 years, cnbc had no growth whatsoever. so good on ya rupert. (aarrgh)

Fox Business News is the lowest-rated of ALL rated cable channels. That is not an exaggeration, but fact. CNBC just threw that in their face after FBN sent out a snarky Christmas card making fun of Jim Cramer's stock prediction record.

If they're doing that poorly on TV--they are, after all, a TV channel--what could their listenership on Sirius/XM possibly have been?

I can't believe someone cited Keith Olbermann as a credible source on ANYTHING.

Of course, his logic is tortured here as it is in politics. It is not unusual, in fact it is typical, for a new competitor to pick up speed slowly, but to accelerate over time.

Anyone but Keith Olbermann would know that.

I'm disappointed. I switched between CNBC and Fox Business actively during the day.

Stack Pointer... I agree.. Olbermann is an extreme Daily Kos-type, angry liberal, that desperately wants to be taken serious... The Obama people REALLY loved Olbermann. I honestly think KO was involved in "pay to play" for team O. Don't even get me started on Chris Mathews...

I voted for Hillary...

"I honestly think KO was involved in 'pay to play' for team O."

If you have any evidence to back that up, you should present it.

"Don't even get me started on Chris Mathews..."

Oh, you mean Chris Matthews, who said that George W. Bush was "chosen by God" to be president? Yes, he really said that a few years back. What a crazy liberal!

In my opinion, Matthews sticks his finger in the air, sees which way the political wind is blowing and goes with it. That's how he hangs in year after year.

In the meantime, CNBC is picking up steam in cable news at a pretty impressive clip.

Try not to let your own neanderthal political prejudices slant your judgment, Stack. That will leave you with lesser other judgments to unslant.

Hey, every little bit helps.

I will truly miss the Fox Business Channel.
I thought it was the most unbiased and informative business news on the air.

XM is circling the bowl. I listened to all 3 of the business channels, flipping from one to the other between commercials.

I have a newer truck with an audio input port. AT&T is offering mobile TV that carries Fox Business as well as Bloomberg and CNBC.

I will be spending the money I spent on XM for a new AT&T phone and simply plug it in my radio. No extra charges for minutes. I'll never even know I'm not listening to XM.

XM's days are numbered as more people gravitate to the Mobile TV wave that is just now picking up steam.

I miss Fox Business radio feed. On TV, It's the one reason I switched from DISH to DIRECTV. CNBC is way too biased, I wonder if they get paid for recommendations???. Anyone who bought GE stock they've been pushing for the years w/o disclosure should sue them. Many cable systems are still adding Fox business, when they reach penetration levels of NBC ratings will come. On systems where they have equal access, FOX Business is winning!

Wow! Stack Pointer (AKA Frontmed) is still around commenting on satellite radio as if he has gotten anything right since he began predicting XM's dominance over Sirius four years ago. Seriously Frontmed, you are the last one who should be commenting about someone's credibility.

Such a bad move, Fox Business News is all I listened to while at work, so dissapointing.
XM has a lot of worthless programming, it was nice to hear something informative and usefull.

From Opening Bell, to Cavuto to even Dave Ramsey I miss my Fox Business News!

Fox Business was the best news for Business on XM. They covered what was happening on the opening bell, closing bell, financial data regarding the economy in more detail than what is on the CNN and other news channel. The personalities are more vibrant and entertaining than other stations as well. I am going to complain untill they put it back on.

I was just getting to become a regular listener and poof the channels gone. I think, with the economy showing signs of bottoming and people like me wanting to tune into by the minute coverage of what is going on, that this is simply a stupid programming decision!

I am outraged that the monopoly can now start cutting out channels like Fox Business. For those of you who haven't heard of it I am sorry you aren't going to get a chance to hear it. It is a relatively new business channel that is fair and balanced. I can't say that about the other business channels. They have their own agenda. It took Fox news a long time before people caught on but now look they are number one of all cable news, if we give them a chance FBN will be there also. I will be calling XM and asking for a discount.

My sentiments exactly! Of all the crappy stations on Sirius XM...this is the one they drop?!?! I was so hooked on Opening Bell and Closing Bell reports...how can they take this one away?? The sad thing is, I can't find another station to fill my preset. Too bad we can't pay for just the stations we want, I'd certainly pay for FBN!!

You're an idiot. Seriously. An idiot.

Fox Business was much better and had a lot less clutter, and less goofy chatter than CNBC. It sounded much more professional to me and I miss it a great deal.

I have been looking for FBN for the last eight weeks. I even called XM and they said it was still on - I guess good help is hard to find!

I for one thought their financial coverage was better than CNBC. I found myself leaning heavily towards FBN. I enjoyed their afternoon/evening coverage from a bar in New York. I believe they called it Happy Hour. Maybe I was just wishing I was sitting there!

Wolverines :)

Think about it. Fox Business is the only channel
that speaks to the people, whether you are a broker making millions or the single mother or the fired master of the universe who, for the first time, needs to not only pay atttention to everything financial going on, but gets the invaluable education in the meaning of finance, and what really happened to your money, etc. Our current times are terrifying, and no one can waste time when they are not able to receive reasonable, sound information to help them through these current economic minefields. The currently available business channels do not answer these issues except Fox Business. Fix your obvious bias. Grow up. Compete on the equal field of programming by merit and non-particanism. How refreshing and intelligent, but can you even do what's maybe just good for us and not only yourselves

I wanted to listen to The Dave Ramsey Show in the evenings on the Fox Business News channel since I cancelled my cable TV subscription.

Believe me, they heard from me when they dropped FBN, but most of the people insisted at the time that it was still on the air.

Well, I still get to listen to Dave Ramsey's radio show. If they ever drop Dave Ramsey entirely, I might consider cancelling.

I certainly agree with the fact that fbn is unlike the other bus programming. I spend alot of time in my truck and really miss the business news. The others (cnbc) tend to appeal to the day traders. I will cancel if they don't reverse their thinking.
