Major League Baseball field reporter and columnist Ken Rosenthal will become a weekly contributor to XM’s baseball talk channel MLB Home Plate (ch 175) as XM’s new "MLB Insider."
Starting today, Rosenthal will appear on XM’s “Baseball This Morning” with hosts Mark Patrick, Buck Martinez and Orestes Destrade. He will also make appearances on “Baseball Beat” with Charley Steiner, and will appear on the MLB Home Plate channel when major news breaks on or off the field.
Ken Rosenthal is the lead field reporter for Fox TV’s MLB coverage, as well as the senior baseball writer for FOXSports.com. Previously, he covered baseball for The Sporting News and served as baseball reporter and general sports columnist at The Baltimore Sun. Among his other claims to fame: His laptop computer once got smashed by a foul ball hit by fellow XM on-air host Cal Ripken.

That foul ball was probably karma. When Rosenthal was working at the Baltimore Sun he would criticize Cal for whatever little nits he could possibly pick about Cal's career/attitude/batting stance/etc. It was a very poorly veiled audition for a national or NYC media gig; hey, look at me, I'm no homer, I can bash anyone. Well, Rosenthal got his job at Sporting News and then elsewhere, and he was more than happy to join in Cal's HOF celebration as the columnist who "knew Cal back when". Opportunistic jerk.
Some good news..I like the guy.
People that love baseball and dont' have XM don't know what are missing in terms of coverage. XM doesn't advertise the fact that they have live baseball coverage every single day of the year, with people that know what they are talking about, like Kevin Kennedy, Rob Dibble, the Morning Crew, Cal Ripken and all of the interviews that they get. I think this was another great pick up for XM, but both Sirius and XM need to do more in term of advertising at the events. For instance, I live in L.A. and go to at least 15 Clipper games a year but you would never know that Sirius broadcasted the Clips and every other team in the NBA because they don't advertise. XM does a little better at Dodger games, but I don't think most fan have an idea of how good the coverage is of MLB on XM and NBA on Sirius.

Hey Ken Rosenthal,
It is you who should be red faced. Byrd did not have approval to use HGH for medical reasons. They would never approve the use of HGH for any reason. Also the HGH ($25K worth) was NOT prescribed by a doctor, but rather by a de-frocked dentist who has been convicted of fraud. If the steroids were for medicinal purposes, why didn't pay for them with his generous players' insurance policy? Yeah, we know Byrd is a born again Christian, but there are hypocrites in all walks of life.
