Following yesterday's article about who's going to be the next FCC Chairman, an observant Orbitcast reader points out that one those hopefuls has very distinct ties to the satellite radio industry.
In fact, this possible future FCC chair actually worked at one of the satcasters in recent years. Click the jump to find out who it is...
That person is John McCain's possible pick: Bill Bailey.
Before Bill went to Disney, he was the Senior VP of Regulatory and Government Affairs for XM Satellite Radio, having had signed on board the company in late 2004.
Prior to XM, Bailey had served as the Senate Commerce Committee's lead Republican staff member on all communications issues. He had also been a senior advisor at the Commerce Department's National Telecommunications and Information Administration. He began his government career in 1996 at the Common Carrier Bureau of the FCC.

Because of his prior ties Bailey would probably have to recuse himself from any vote concerning satrad otherwise the NAB would have a cow.
Where did you get that helicopter view of the FCC building? That's either the view from a sniper rifle, or what Omar saw before being strung up by Sosa.
I'm a Sirius lifetime subscriber, as well as an investor. I'm very concerned about this channel lineup, and specifically, about the way they could turn their backs on their most loyal customers. I shelled out $500 for a lifetime subscription because I believe in the longterm viability of the medium. To turn around and not offer a full subscription package to me after the fact would be absurd.
Here's what my gut tells me:
1) They're not telling the general public about the terms of lifetime subscriptions right now, because they're going to offer a lifetime sub for $899 once the companies merge.
2) All lifetime subscribers will receive all channels, as long as they purchase a receiver that accepts both feeds.
Wall St. won't let them drop subscribers. The stock is already at a very low point, and they need to start turning a profit. Turning on their existing base of subscribers would be the kiss of death.
Earl Douglas?

The're EVERYWHERE!
They should attached a laser beam on that sat...then shoot it into kevins office...
That building is appropriately shaped - it's a giant question mark...
So THAT's where nothing happens.
hey Libb Ryan gave your comment a shoutout on Orbitcast Radio.
