Gary Parsons Resigns From WorldSpace Board of Directors
Gary Parsons - Chairman of the board at XM Satellite Radio - has resigned as a director of WorldSpace, it was revealed today in a SEC filing.
In a letter dated October 18, 2006, Mr. Parsons indicated that he was reducing his outside areas of responsibility, in order to focus more of his attention on his primary responsibilities as Chairman of XM Satellite Radio.
Gary Parsons was elected as a director of WorldSpace on July 18, 2005.

Comments
This is shocking. Parson's company peels off 75% of it's value, loses 25% of it's market share, is required to cut forecasts three times and this greedy fuck NOW decides to leave another flondering company's board.
With Panero's actions and behavior it's no wonder XM is headed to the shitter in high gear.

This is better for XM... Parsons can focus more energy on the prob;ems and maybe turn the boat around a little quicker.

@pockpie:
You're a fucking idiot.
Posted by: XMBrian ? | October 20, 2006 11:40 PM
XMBrian, I realize it's a lot of fun to call people names and use dirty words and all, but your "argument" would be a LOT more persuasive if you could, oh, employ the occasional FACT.
If you have a problem with what pockpie said, why don't you explain what you disagree with and why?
Now, here's what I'm wondering about: was it really OK for this guy to be on the board of two companies in the same industry at the same time? Is that a conflict of interest? I realize that WorldSpace doesn't program to the U.S.; is that what made this Kosher (assuming it WAS)?
Posted by: crankymediaguy ? | October 21, 2006 4:04 AM
Yes indeed XMBrian....
Xm's losing performace over the last five quarters has tarnished the image of Satrad and pulled both WRSP and SIRI down the stink hole with it.
Two Directors leave, Panero dumps 10 million in stock while Mel buys 10 million, the FTC, RIAA, FCC, three missed forcasts and having Sirius kick their ass down the street like a lowly tin-can.... and THIS you support without arguement.
Come back when you have a come back.

>>> was it really OK for this guy to be on the board of two companies in the same industry at the same time?
Yeah, considering they (a) aren't competitors, (b) XM owns a $25 million stake in Worldspace, and (c) XM and Worldspace have an arrangement under which they share certain technologies and content items.
I'm sure WRSP hates to lose him and XMSR is glad to have more of his time.

Thanks, StackPointer, for giving me that info. I didn't know that stuff about the connections between XM and WorldSpace. That certainly clears up any question about conflict of interest.

As an FYI, I think XM took their WRSP postion at $21.00 ( near the IPO ) per share which, with the stock now at $3.50 roughly makes the 25.0 million position now worth about 4.16 million.

If you develop a habit of having a cup of tea in the morning or reading newspaper or taking your dog out for a small walk, its absence creates a great emotional set back. Simply the compensating the value of a newspaper or a cup of tea or a stride can’t compensate for the emotional loss and inconvenience.
Almost similar is my case. I developed a habit of listening to Hindustani classical Music in the morning. On one fine day I found that there was some problem with the equipment and I was denied the classical music for two months during which the equipment in warranty was under repairs. After many complaints and mails the equipment was returned only after I made to pay for new subscription. And no extension was given. To add insult to the injury, at the time of renewal I was told that there was a promotional scheme and if I paid for 12 months subscription, I will be able to enjoy the music for a period of 15 months. After payment this also was not given.
I would like to point out to the promoters of world space that if they started the company with the purpose of providing entertainment to the clients they did a good job. But their world service department gives an impression that world space makes false promises which it never honors and the purpose is to earn money – buy borrow or steal.
With this background I repeat the third reminder of my letter dated 12th April which was sent to worldspace India which has so far not even been acknowledged.

Dear Sir,
Before telling you how bad your customer care service is - let me tell you that Worldspace Radio Service is doing an excellent service to the world of music. To the listeners of Indian Classical Music, this is the only source of rich music and to an old man like me it is just an immortal nectar to ears.
But this is only till your radio instrument works. The moment it develops fault (believe me it does within 3 - 4 months time), the nightmare starts. Keep on calling the service centre nobody responds. Then if you are lucky, they take your instrument away generally for not returning. They telephone you to pay subscription though you do not have the radio instrument and don't listen to music, and make you pay for the subscription before the instrument is returned.
This has happened with me. My son Darshan Vaidya got me Worldspace Radio Connection in Vadodara Gujarat - India. (Rxid - 383451). For a few months it worked. One day it refused to work. I contacted local office. After many questions - paper work and checkups, a gentleman came and picked my receiver instrument. It was under warranty. They said that it will be returned within 3 - 4 days. Days became weeks and now more than a month. The receiver has not so far been returned but I have been receiving the calls from the company for renewal of subscription. They told me that there is a scheme wherein if I subscribe for one year, I will be able to listen to the music for 15 months. I was prepared to pay, but the Worldspace Baroda said it cant be paid before receiver comes. So scheme expired.
I am in regular touch with Baroda Worldspace dealer for the return of receiver and they keep on promising that it will be there within two - three days. On 28th March they said that everything is ready and it will be fixed on Thursday 5th April 2007. On 6th April they said to wait for two more days. On 11th they said that it will be fitted on 12th Morning (today). Today when I inquired they said that I have to renew the connection and the 3 months additional scheme is no more applicable.
I have been deprived of classical music for about 2 months - I have lost value of subscription for that period, I have missed on promotional scheme for 3 added months music listening, and I am being asked to pay for the subscription before my instrument can be returned to me !!!
I have been forced to renew my subscription and I have already paid. As on date, I am not able to listen to any music because the instrument has not been returned so far..
Is it the service that the world space radio providing? I contacted the call centre several times, I contacted Worldspace Ahmedabad office and Pune office- but just to be disappointed. They did not help.
I am sending the copy of this mail to all the world space offices so that they can exert pressure and see that my problem gets sorted out. I have no intention of approaching the board of directors of worldspace for the time being i.e. Mr Noah A. Samara, Mr. Kassahun Kebede, Mr. Jack Kemp, Mr. James R. Laramie, Mr. Charles McC. Mathias, Dr. Michael Nobel, Mr. Gary Parsons, Mr. William Schneider, Jr., Mr. Donald J. Frickel or anybody else.
PLEASE HELP ME
Please give me the extension for the period for which I didn't listen to music (2 months), + Please add 3 months additional as per the scheme. Thus please add 5 months to my subscription of 12 months for which I paid today.
Thanks
Ramesh Chandra Vaidya
