Get Married with SIRIUS

Sirius DJs a WeddingThis past Friday, John McHugh and Maggie Lee got married, and rather than opting for a band or DJ, they chose Sirius Satellite Radio to spin the tunes at the reception.

Maggie Lee, 22, had contacted Sirius back in February and asked if they'd play a few songs for them, but she didn't expect that a whole broadcast would be dedicated to them. The couple's playlist was broadcast, along with added personalized dedications, were played on SIRIUS' Standard Time (ch 75).

Aside from the uber-cuteness/geeky factor here, this story (which the AP ate up) is an interesting case of people's perception of what satellite radio provides. The thought that an in-person DJ is easily substituted by a satellite stream says something. Sure, there have been people who've done the same things with iPods, but I wonder if anyone has attempted this with their local terrestrial radio station?

How gay is that? Next we will hear sirius does school dances and proms. Maybe call a head and get some making love music. Anything to get there names in the news.

Pretty cool, but how little does Sirius have going on in the programming department to play someone's ENTIRE wedding playlist?

I hope people aren't going to be hornswaggled into thinking this is the sort of service that satellite radio provides...

"What? $13 a month and they won't play 20 songs in a row just for my barmitzvah? What a rip-off!"

OTOH, this sort of occurrence would be unthinkable on terrestrial radio - unless you had it in mind to have a 20-minute block of commercials during dinner. ;-)

Sadly, there are folks out there stupid enough to think that. That being said (and kind of unrelated), I've been to two weddings where iPods were the sole source of music. Worked out great. Cheaper than a DJ and far less annoying.

Its certainly good practice for a satelite radio company to try and keep their name out of the news. Fucking morons drive me loco.

Mike and mike in the morning on espn did this shit. totally gay, but interesting i suppose.
