Grateful Dead Channel
The much anticipated Grateful Dead Channel on Sirius Satellite Radio will be making its debut on September 7th at 12pm ET on Sirius channel 32.

The official debut broadcast - though we heard a sneak peek on Jam_On - kicks off with an extremely rare concert broadcast of the Grateful Deads 1974 performance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California. This performance will be followed by a special show hosted by Bob Weir - the first by a member of the Grateful Dead on the new channel.

"This is gonna be one fun channel," said the Dead's Bob Weir. "We, the guys in the band, get to be involved as much as we can and we'll make sure it's fun. We want the fans to be involved as well."

The channel will also feature contributions from Grateful Dead expert David Gans, as well as Dead archivist David Lemieux, who will provide a look into the Dead's lush past with daily insights.

There is no official word on what will happen with Sirius Disorder which currently resides in the Channel 32 slot.

wouldnt suprise me at all if sirius got rid of a truly revolutionary and ground breaking channel like disorder to make room for another narrow, square and vanilla single artist channel. just more of the same from these terrestrial wanna be's

I don't have Sirius but Disorder sounds like a channel I would like.. and the Grateful Dead channel sounds like a waste of space. Especially if there's an existing jam bands channel.

I agree with the previous comments. Why do they keep displacing Sirius Disorder every time they change the channels around? Disorder is like a breath of fresh air compared to most channels because they play all kinds of different stuff, and you never know what outstanding song they will hit you with next.

I’m going to send a complaint to the Sirius Staff about messing with Disorder!

Sam, in fairness, although they've moved Disorder before, it has never been replaced with a single-artist channel. OTOH, The Bridge got bumped twice before; once for Bruce, and once for either the Stones or the Who( I forget which...).

What a "Long Strange" disappointment this channel will become. They really should replace the "Truckin" channel.

But seriously this channel will suck and it will be "A Trouch of" GAY

anyway, these single artist channels are realy waste of space. It would be okay to have a single artist channel that keeps changing the artist every month or so. But for 12 month or longer??? booh no! and this channel replacements are so anoying.

So we don't have any confirmation that Disorder will be killed, right?

Sirius should let us know, or let Orbitcast know, which channel gets booted because of this. At the very least it'll keep the angry phonecalls at bay....

(btw, I disagree with Another Thought.... I cant wait for this channel!)

This channel is going to be great! Unlike other single artist channels, the Dead actually have the material to fill it up. The fact that they are opening up their vault to play all of these live shows is a DeadHead's dream. I can't wait for this channel!

funny thing is im actually a dead fan however sirius will absolutly run this music into the ground! their penchant for playing the same songs over and over and over again is what made me switch to xm. you take an oasis in the desert channel(like disorder is) and keep moving it around and it shows how they really feel about the true vision of what satrad was supposed to be. its sad really sirius used to hold such promise for me and now......what a waste of a great idea.

just heard meg say that disorder will be moving to channel 70.

"funny thing is im actually a dead fan however sirius will absolutly run this music into the ground! their penchant for playing the same songs over and over and over again is what made me switch to xm."

But that isn't what happened during the Grateful Dead Channel Preview in early August. The Dead played FOUR different concerts a day from their vault during the preview. If you were a true dead fan, you would be thrilled by that! But, as it is, you have XM and feel the need to bash Sirius. No problem, but your bash isn't at all truthful...

Fire up the Bong!

rjr: guess your right im not a "true" dead fan.......ouch that hurt! but hey....at least im not stuck paying for a service that has more song repetition then FM radio! i will stick to my ever expanding and creativly superior playlists that xm offers.

With over 100 music channels to pick from I'm not too worried about any one artist channels as they last only as long as people want. Once everyone has had their fill Sirius starts getting angry letters as they probably did with the past channels. They can move Disorder anywhere they want because I can always reset another preset button. Where it goes, I go.

really now a grateful dead channel!!! this is the coolest idea.this is not just another one hit wonder band that you think is the gratest band in the world until a month or two later then you wonder....hey who was that band with that one song i liked? come on man this is the dead!!!! long live the dead. for those who listen and love.... peace
