Hands on with Sirius' own "Infotainment" vehicle

Sirius at CES

Sirius didn't actually call it an "Infotainment" vehicle, but that's pretty much what the Ford Edge on display at their booth at CES was. It brought together the latest in Sirius' non-radio offerings: Sirius Backseat TV with the OEM version of Sirius Travel Link.

To make it even more impressive, the Sirius Travel Link system was coupled with Ford SYNC, allowing for voice control over the interface. And if voice-recognition doesn't float your boat, the massive display also utilized a slick touchscreen interface.

Of course, Sirius Backseat TV was installed. Since this is a Ford, the aftermarket version of Backseat TV was installed.

Here's some more shots of various channels displayed. Keep in mind that this is all the same screen, so Sirius Travel Link as well as Sirius Satellite Radio are all available in the same interface. This thing even made AM/FM radio look good.

The interesting thing to note is the differences in the interface from the aftermarket version of Sirius Travel Link (check out photos of the retail version here). Because this is Ford's implementation, set to debut on the 2009 Lincoln MKS, the automaker has full control over the look and feel of the menu system. So the graphics, controls and overall user interface are far different (and in my opinion, better) than what you can get aftermarket.

XM Infotainment seems a lot nicer to me

does travel link update realtime to your current location?

Yep, XM Infotainment is more colorful, with a better layout.

Here's the letter from the FCC site that you should post. I think it is VERY telling of the plans to have satrad give up some spectrum to Jackson and his goons. It's positive in light of the merger going forward, but negative in what they will ask to concede.

Remember, on the 9th the FCC chair met with them again in a private meeting. Likely to tell them what they will be getting when the approval is announced.

XM's is the ugliest thing I have ever seen in my life. Who places a screen on the windshield? You car is not an airplanes. Nice job Sirius...

Did you see what the Channel Guide screen looked like? Picture?
