The HD Radio propaganda machine is at full-tilt right now, touting the fact that they've reached all of the top 100 markets in under 18 months.
This milestone was reached with the addition of 15 new markets - including Gainsville, FL; Charleston, SC; Daytona Beach, FL; Des Moines, IA; Mobile, AL; Wichita, KS; Madison, WI; Colorado Springs, CO; and Lexington, KY. to name a few - all of which now have HD2 multicast programming.
Meanwhile, Jacobs Media is showing that awareness of HD Radio went up 18% in 2006 to 45% in the latest "Technology Web Poll" of rock radio listeners. Right now, there's only moderate interest in having HD Radio in cars and trucks. Unfortunately, satellite radio didn't ring the bells in interest either...
Jacobs' study show that MP3 connectivity and GPS navigation are the leaders in desired new vehicle features. Not surprising. Only about 10% expressed strong interest in HD Radio in their next vehicle - while 14% expressed strong interest in Satellite Radio.
Good news right? Too bad that more people responded as "somewhat interested" for HD Radio (37%) than for Satellite Radio (26%).
It's obvious here that HD Radio is mounting competition for Satellite, and $250 million campaigns don't help the matter. The key is for Sirius and XM to gain back the mindshare that they've lost recently (but without the ridiculous advertising budget).

the reason no one's interested is because only people my fathers age still listen to fm on a daily basis and the older you are the less interested you are in technology
This is why I think it is so ridiculous for the NAB to be spending all of their resources on fighting satellite. The Ipod is a far greater threat to terrestrial radio.
Is this real? is HD radio really having this much success? Sirius and XM need to start playing dirty and make their product known. Time to stop playing games with the FCC and everyone attacking free speech.
Its a better medium in many ways, free radio sucks in even more, so how hard is it to just blow them out of the water. Start handing out free fucking radios!! LET THE PEOPLE DECIDE FOR THEMSELVES.
When you all stop and think about the future maybe, 3 or 4 years down the road. CAN you see Sat radio being the Norm. Where your stuck in traffic and everyone around you is listening to Sat radio?
Personally I think Alot of work needs to be done. This merger is a good thing for sure...but I feel its gonna slow that process down especially in finding quality dj's to run the stations.
Personally There are not to many stations I can sit and listen to. I really enjoy raw dog and The all out show on Shade. Anyone got other good dj's they can recomend on sirius?
Sorry bored so ill keep posting my views...
Personally I think the key to winning this battle is AVAILABILITY. (no i didnt steal that from bronx tale)
They must integrate this service into anything and everything. Technology must get better so they can be heard everywhere as well.
Ideas?
airplanes, hotels, video game system, cell phones, mp3 players, Internet gambling sites, gyms, myspace even!. They need to create SUPER INEXPENSIVE radios and practically give them out for free. A big target market I feel they havent reached are college kids. Campuses are the perfect environment to be advertising and planting seeds...
well DUH .... Yes I want an HD receiver in my next car. Who the hell would not? But I already know it will have Sat Rad so my interest in Sat rad factory installed is less.... naturally
Actually I think the numbers are pathetic... "HD Radio" makes it sound like its a better sound quality, Again who would not want a better sound system in their car? .. and whats this? Only 10% were "Very interested" and 37% were somewhat intested. That aint good for suposedly a better product.

Agreed- that 3 month trial should be in EVERY new vehicle, regardless of brand or model - get people using it and get them hooked, then once it goes away they'll realize how much regular radio blows.
Personally, I AM interested in HD Radio. As I've said before, I don't really get the "us versus them" thing on here. As far as I'm conerned, the more technology and the more choices, the better it is. I like satellite and HD and am glad to have both available. So why not quit the silly name calling and simply enjoy both.
