HONSC1: Honda/Acura XM-to-Sirius Adapter now available

HONSC1 XM to Sirius adapterDirected Electronics has begun shipping on its HONSC1 SiriusConnect adapter for Honda and Acura vehicles.

It may not look sexy, but that's because you'll never see. And for folks who want to convert their Honda or Acura stereos to Sirius (but want to retain their current setup), it's a gift from the Gods.

The HONSC1 SiriusConnect serves as a bridge between the proprietary databus of the Honda/Acura factory radio, and the SCC1 SiriusConnect Vehicle Tuner (sold separately). The result is a permanently installed system using your existing factory radio controls.

The HONSC1 can also be a portable solution, by substituting the SCVDOC1 vehicle dock instead of the SCC1. So you can then interface a plug-and-play receiver (like a Sportster 5 or Stiletto 2) with the factory radio. In other words: it's the best of both worlds.

Either way, now Honda/Acura owners who want Sirius can rejoice. The HONSC1 runs for an MSRP price of $99. Look for it at your favorite Sirius dealer.

Word has it that the Toyota / Lexus / Scion version will be available next week.

What we need is something to go from Sirius to XM in a 2007/2008 MINI Cooper.

End of XM FCC and DOJ take note.

Sirius to XM would not be a big seller, Merger or not i think we will see Sirius giving away converters with a year sub.

Please explain why sirius to xm would not sell? becuase you dont like xm? I know that I have considered buying cars with a year free sirius but do not want it and feel like it would be a wasted to throw away the sub. However if the car had the electronics in the dash and I could just swap in an XM it would help. I would never buy a car based on what radio service it had, but its nice to know i could swap out sirius if i did get one.

Here is a question I have though: if they build this box that has the capability of using the same control unit for both xm and sirius, why not have an option where you could keep the XM and add sirius on top of it. put a switching device in there somewhere and you could choose your service if you desire

Interesting that this is strictly a databus adapter and not a tuner... that generally hasn't been the way that these things have been implemented (cf. the GM tuners).

A Sirius+XM tuner module would probably be available 6 months to a year after closing of the merger.

leviramsey,

Correct, the GM version is different. It is the adapter and tuner built into one. This one is like the newer style system or using a Translator and Tuner. It's nice for those that have a Sportster 5 or Stiletto 100 or Stiletto 2, that they can still use that tuner with this HON-SC1 so long as they use the SCVDOC1. It will be able to change the channels with the factory Honda/Acura radio, but the Stiletto or Sportster can be hidden in the glovebox or center console.

XM and Sirius have agreed to extend the Merger until May 1st 2008

Leviramsey reread you must buy the tunner seperatly you can not just buy this databus adapter and have it work

Why would they do that? Once they have gotten rid of half the 140 music channels, 75-80% of the content would essentially be duplicative -- substantially, leaving only the sports channels as desirable content from both services.

Mel says these devices would cost $700 to build. Is that going to make it worthwhile for the companies to fund?

I think we'll never see a dual-mode device.

So let's say I wanted to pick up a XM/Sirius adapter after the merger - would I have to buy something *else* to be able to tune the channels on the touch-screen menu in my Honda Civic EX?

Does anyone know if this still requires that we install a Sirius antenna along with this? I find it hard to believe that this will work with the factory installed XM antenna. (But I hope it does.) Also, I'm getting the consensus out there that if there is no merger, either XM will fold or both services will fold...?

My buddy put the GM SiriusConnect - SIRGM1 in his GMC Denali. It took a half an hour and the XM factory antenna works fine. It works just like the factory XM install.

Finally! I cant wait to order one

Does this work with any Acura factory radio that came with XM? That's a pretty cool idea, being locked into 1 service is not cool.

How do i get my VW Passat which has an XM radio converted to Sirus radio , this can not be too dificult. I already have the XM in the car, with it antenna.Help

I recently had this put into my '07 Accord (no navigation, dual climate) and then had it removed. Everything worked fine except for the channel changer on the steering wheel. The steering wheel control DOES NOT change the presets on the radio, it changes the channels up and down only. You can set the presets at the radio, but that is the only place you can change them. I was very disappointed that it didn't work as I was told.
