Howard Denies Rumors of Returning to Free Radio
An article by the New York Post's John Mainelli set off Howard this morning on his show. Citing Inside Radio's claim (which incidently Orbitcast cited as well) that Sirius CEO Mel Karmazin was in talks with Citadel's CEO Farid Suleman, John Mainelli expanded on the rumor hinting that WPLJ or WABC were possible outlets.
Howard Stern explicitely stated on his show that he has absolutely no intentions of returning to terrestrial radio. He's quite happy on satellite radio.
You all called bravo-sierra on this one, and obviously were right (did anyone believe this rumor?) but just in case there was any doubt... there should be no more.
Side Note: A post on SeekingAlpha seems to think that a good way for Stern to boost his popularity, and Sirius subscribers, is by... uhm, podcasting. Pure genius.

This was such BS. I am much more interested in Bam Margera admnitting to banging Jessica Simpson on the Show today.

i dont know who this bravo-sierra guy is but i don't think howard was comming back but i do think something is in the works about getting something.

Inside Radio is a 'Bravo Sierra" mouthpiece for the NAB. I just wonder what they hoped to gain by printing this?

If Bill Clinton can run for president (and WIN) after giving Arkansans his "solemn oath" that he would not do so, there should be no problem in Stern returning to terrestrial after promising it would never happen.

"i dont know who this bravo-sierra guy is" We know you dont. Thanks for the post Ryan. This will remain active for a few weeks....

I love Clinton. Show me even ONE guy who's going to admit he's been getting sucked off by barely legal chicks at work. Shit, I would deny, deny, deny as well...

If Mel syndicates the show out, then Howard really has no say in it.
I'm not saying Mel will, but the bottom line is SIRIUS is a sinking ship, because their costs are too high. They need to syndicate the show to bring in more income. Howard isn't bringing in nearly enough subs to cover that ridiculous salary he is getting.

Back on topic: I know some of my friends emailed howard100news pointing to this site and they replyed back saying Howard would make an announcement on this disproving it.
Posted by: realwx ? | September 19, 2006 2:45 PM
It's been said again and again--Howard's deal has already paid for itself. The amount of subscribers that have followed him to Sirius has more than paid for his salary.
And I still dont think that he gets $500 million. I think that figure was used for his ENTIRE organization, crew, and staffers.

yeah the 100 mil . is for the production budget of the channels.
Posted by: sternfan73 ? | September 19, 2006 4:59 PM
knowing stern deals after cbs i bet he owns the right of his replays/content if he does not he is stupid.
i would doubt that they could do any deal without stern's ok

He's covered *his* costs for the first year, those subscribers need to be retained. Plugging one hole doesn't fix a sinking ship either. I'm not saying the subscribers are going anywhere, or XM/Sirius will go bankrupt, but both companies still aren't turning a profit, and both have an incredible amount of debt.

Sirius did it with Howard last year, and will do it again with NASCAR this year. For worth while radio entertainment there is only one choice SIRIUS! customers have no where else to go.
xm is OVER

i would belive that derek jeter has worms in his peker than anything that guy from the post.
Posted by: sternfan73 ? | September 19, 2006 8:37 PM
How is Sirius a sinking ship exactly? You've got to spend money to make money.
Sirius has the edge because it has other things people want to hear besides music. Howard may not get all the average radio listeners over to Sirius but Howard, NFL, ESPN, NBA, NCAA, NASCAR has a better shot than what XM has to offer. Period.

XM is dead in the water. I cant believe they have Major League Baseball and the GM contract and they're still being hammered by SIRIUS. Pathetic if you ask me.

Hammered? Since Stern went to Sirius they closed the gap by a WHOPPING 1 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS. Hammered?
And Howard never back tracks on his statements. http://www.doublewidz.com/ssfileupload/store/Smoking_Gun_RE_Howard_s_4_day_work_week_.mp3 But "I dont care"
Posted by: tussel ? | September 19, 2006 11:06 PM
Yeah sternfan73 is right the two idiots on freefm (gee I wonder why its called that) will turn Howard's minor mentioning of them into an hour and a half bit. They will alienate more people who are still Howard fans causing them to switch over to either Sirius or one of the tropical stations or whoopi who are all kicking o&a's asses.
Whoopi always wins in the end!
Posted by: Stan ? | September 19, 2006 11:06 PM
tussel tell us the numbers Howard has to pull in before you will admit he was a success moving to sirius.
Posted by: Stan ? | September 19, 2006 11:08 PM
"Hammered? Since Stern went to Sirius they closed the gap by a WHOPPING 1 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS. Hammered? "
vs loosing ground.
don't forget that XM reduced targets by 1m.
seems there is more then just a single million that was effected here.
if estimates end up where they have been announced...it will be closer then ever come 12/31
Posted by: PNess | September 19, 2006 11:08 PM
Come on tussel, was that Jackie I heard?

An hour an a half of some great radio. You guys just dont see it because you cant. He fucked them over. Post that invented their act quote all day long. None of us can see it like you cant see the hatred O&A and their hardcore fans have for him. I grew up listening to Stern. Had he taken them on like a man and crushed them like only he could there would be no O&A. There would be no hatred and i would still be listening to him.
Posted by: tussel ? | September 19, 2006 11:11 PM
Howard didn't attack any infinity DJs. He isnt a dickhead like o&a both are. answer my question about how many subs howard needs before you will admit he was a success at sirius

Why fight a battle when you can drop a nuke?
Posted by: Stan ? | September 19, 2006 11:15 PM
All 12 million! J/K. But really, he whored his move for 14 months. He has you and the rest of the hardcore people that didnt just spend 10 minutes a day listening to him. To be honest, i dont see how exclusive talk content on satellite works anymore. For many reason. One being that everyone listening just about has to like you. Stern doesnt allow for much complaining unless its him doing it anyway. The biggest issue is people just cant turn him on and listen. Waisting my time here, you guys dont understand me, and i dont understand you. Ron and Fez are starting soon, i need to go, CYA!
Posted by: tussel ? | September 19, 2006 11:16 PM
the same damn arguement over and over. we get it tuss, you hate stern. dodgerblues hit it on the money. what would your bbbbbbbbboys be doing without GM? maybe they would be pitching a show for H101.
Posted by: FaFaFluFly ? | September 19, 2006 11:16 PM
Did i ever say Howard was a failure? Did i ever say Sirius is failing? No and No. Hammering XM, nope.
Posted by: tussel ? | September 19, 2006 11:17 PM
Yeah you get why i hate Stern, now tell why you hate O&A? GM? How about Honda/Acura and Toyota. Just wait. I dont give a shit how people listen, as long as their listening.
Posted by: tussel ? | September 19, 2006 11:19 PM
tussel did you see todays ratings for o&a? not very impressive.
Posted by: Stan ? | September 19, 2006 11:23 PM
4.5 with Males 18-34. Pretty fucking impressive actually. Did you know it includes 1/4 of JV and Elvis's 1.8? The ratings are for 6am - 10am and O&A only air till 9am. Making excuses? Nope. Its still impressive. Again, why the hate for O&A. I know both shows, and they are very different. So dont pull that they are ripping him off shit. Because they bashed him and he worked for the same company? Whatever.
Posted by: tussel ? | September 19, 2006 11:30 PM
Noooooo. That wouldn't be making excuses. Naaaaaaaah. Excuses would be bringing up ANOTHER show's ratings for the second quarter in a row. Or talking about how they only do 3 hours on shit radio. excuses? nah.

Ok, i'll just pretend the facts done mean anything. I'll live in this delusional world. Hey Sirius is an a great spot at the moment. Go Go Mel! Whats a billion in losses this year. We have Howard Stern exclusively! And we only paid 10 times what XM did for Nascar...... Done with this topic.
Posted by: tussel ? | September 19, 2006 11:53 PM
tussel call us when it hits a 7.until then
23rd place sirius 55%
xm 45% again.
way to bring those people in
Posted by: sternfan73 ? | September 19, 2006 11:57 PM
opie says they continue to "chip" away. "chip, chip"
well, looks like SIRIUS beats out XM again 55% vs. 45%, again, as Opie thinks they "chip" away, we continue to "hammer" away.
It's only a matter of time, folks.......... THE GRANDADDY OF ALL FUNERALS!!! It's only a matter of time.

for you tussel:

please spare everyone the economic lesson. You can't get talent without paying for it. You can't have satradio without satellites. You do understand that those things cost money? You do understand that business do start in the black(that's positive) right? Just checking.
Posted by: Schimshamity ? | September 20, 2006 7:48 AM
Those audio clips of reporters Howard plays on the show are sooo fuckin' outrageous.... makes you think what crap they write when dealing with serious issues like politics. Jesus! This goes to show you cant believe "shit" from the press. They're a bunch of lazy fucks that hear one "rumor" and run with it to do their own speculation. damn!
Posted by: DodgerBlues ? | September 20, 2006 9:32 AM
The best part is the "expert" who literally has no fucking idea what they are talking about. You can just tell that they pay absolutely zero attention to what is actually happening. The get a story with a b line subject and it doesn't matter how they get to B. Its bullshit. I blame cable news networks for constantly blurring the line between news and "entertainment".
