Howard Stern show producer Gary Dell'Abate, sidekick Artie Lange, and comedians Nick DiPaolo, Jim Florentine and Dave Attell came under fire after performing a comedy show in Afghanistan.The comics had just finished a set for troops in Kandahar when the base came under attack.
"Everything was going fine until the end," a friend of the comics, who heard from them by cell phone, told the Daily News. "They were all done with their sets, and they were headed in a car convoy to a meet-and-greet elsewhere, but they only made it about 20 yards.
"The military base they were on came under mortar fire, and the convoy was turned around."
Troops led the comics into a secure bunker, where the comedians - all uninjured - waited until the shelling stopped. They went on to continue the USO/Armed Forces Entertainment tour at other undisclosed locations in the Persian Gulf.
Dell'Abate's rep confirmed the incident but couldn't comment.

You must be one great insider cause I havent seen any "latest" reporting on ratings that shows XM's 20 on 20 receiving a higher cume than the Sirius Howard 100.
But the point being made is not based on ratings in which i see that Howard has dominated(not to mention that howard has two feeds as he airs on Howard 101 for the west coast) He is clearly the biggest draw on satellite radio. He completely change the satellite radio landscape when he went with Sirius versus XM. Sirius was dead on the ground, and it could be argued that Sirius has become the more dominant of the two companies. (i am aware that XM still has more subs)

If we ever (God Forbid) have an emergency like 9/11 or larger, local AM/FM will be of little value to the 120 million Americans who are driving into work on a Monday morning. The NAB HATES this issue being raised and few are aware of Satrad value and participation in public safety... lord knows Mel, John Kerry, Brownback, Dorgan, or the NAB has never brought this up.
What will the opposition say about the demise of Satrad if a city like LA is removed from the map?... will WXYC in Kentucky be there to serve?
I think along the lines of spectrum forfeiture, a channel known for public emergencies would be wise and it's so easy that no one at the FCC has mentioned it.

The PCOOD will be the lead division responsible for coordinating the FCC’s emergency response procedures and operations. The division will coordinate the FCC’s public safety, homeland security, national security, disaster management and related functions on a day-to-day basis and during incidents or other emergencies. The division will also be the lead point of contact for all inter-governmental coordination activities with other Federal departments and agencies. Let's be realistic for a second. Regardless of what show the comics are affiliated with (being that the shows at this point really don't hold any grudges anymore) it's great the comics (who have been on both shows frequently)are on a USO tour for the troops. This has nothing to do with o&a or Stern. Stern's an innovator, O&A are the next evolution of the genre, and no one cares about the fights anymore. That said, I'm glad the comics are safe.
