Hugh Panero on working and living with cancer

Elizabeth Edwards's public battle with cancer has inspired Hugh Panero to write a piece for the Washington Post providing insight into his wife's own struggle with leukemia.

It's an incredible read, especially for those who might not have known that Panero and his family were going through such a difficult time (during XM's 2001 launch even).

The strength to persist during such an emotional time - for Hugh, his wife Mary Beth Durkin and their children - is something that many can't truly understand. This article at least gives you a glimpse into that.

Becoming a bone marrow donor is easy and painless. Just go to your local blood center and ask to become a donor. They'll swab the inside of your cheeks and send the swabs in. The paperwork took more time than the sample. And it's free!

I am currently being treated for Leukemia. I have ALL=Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. I had the same symptoms of Hugh's wife but didnt go to the doctor for almost a month. If I would of waited 1 or 2 more days I would have died. Im currently going through Chemotherapy and Im in remission, however I need a Stem Cell transplant to be cured. However I still do not have a match.

I encourage everyone to join the National Bone Marrow registry. If you cant help save my life maybe you can help save someone else. It is not painful to donate.

I was a bone marrow donor in October 1991 to a unrelated, unknown recipient. We had our 15th anniversary last October. Each additional person on the registry is another chance for someone dying. If you are not on the registry, you may want to think about it...I did and it made a difference.

Let me echo those in calling for more people to get on the marrow donor list. In addition, while you are getting on the list, go ahead and donate blood. Our nation can always use more blood donors!
