Here's a little present for Pioneer Inno owners: a version of the v2.11 firmware with the FM transmitter turned on. For those who didn't know, the Pioneer Inno initially had its built-in FM modulator turned on for times when it wasn't docked in the car. But XM crippled the FM transmitter in subsequent firmware updates as a way to appease the FCC - instead of being able to use your FM modulator everywhere, you could only use it in the car. (booo!)
Well not anymore. This handy piece of version 2.11 firmware - with the FM mod turned on - fell off the back of a truck and landed in the hands of yours truly. And now, it's available for all Orbitcast readers to enjoy.
To be clear, this firmware update is not authorized by Sirius XM Radio... but that's what makes it fun right?
Disclaimer: Use at your own risk! This firmware is obviously not tested with all versions of the Pioneer Inno or the Samsung Helix, and neither Orbitcast - nor any truck drivers - can be held accountable for your choice to install and/or use this firmware.

SWEET. THAT MADE MY DAY!!!!!
Ryan - what is the worst thing that would happen if we try this on our inno 2 and it doesn't work? Would I just have to load on the V2.11 via the XMFirmware Update Client again and lose some data?
I must know how was this achieved?!
This is GREAT! Thank you, Mister Orbitcast! :)
In testing. You MUST use headphones or a power travel adapter wire to act as the FM antenna.
ALSO:
FM Mod option MUST be turned on on the menu EVERY time the Inno/Helix is powered up.
Hey!
Tried it out and everything installed correctly but I couldn't get the FM radio here to pick anything up.
This was on an Inno 1.
I'm going to keep on trying to see why it's not working right.
I have an Inno 2 refurb from a Woot! Off, and installed this today, before reading your twitter update advising v2 users to only do so at their own risk. The procedure seemed to go off w/o a hitch.
Upon reboot of my Inno I tried to broadcast it to my home stereo, initially it appeared it failed. I then heard some faint static on the channel I was trying to broadcast. It was broadcasting, but super weak. I moved my inno, literally on top of my amplified fm antenna, and the signal was clearer but still too weak and full of static to be of any use.
The device also changed logical drive assignments on my computer when plugged in from J: to D:, and now appears as a Samsung Helix.
I think I might want to revert back to the pioneer firmware, unless I am doing something wrong. Do you know of a way to manually update backwards to this (I am afraid of doing it thru the official update tool, since my pc detects this as a helix now instead of an inno)
I got my hopes up early with this. I hope there is a way to further unlock this for us inno 2 users.
-B
PS Did you pick this up off another discussion board somewhere, I would like to follow the conversation if possible.
Thank you so much Ryan this works great on my inno. the only problem i have found is that when i updated the firmware it changed the pioneer logo to the samsung logo for whatever reason. it is so nice to have the FM mod back
I never updated from my 1.05. The only root directory I see with my inno is the my music folder. What folder am I to put the file in? I put the file on the device not in any folder, disconnected it, and it did nothing.
My computer now reads my Inno1 as a Helix YX-M1! Also this is a ONE WAY DEAL! If you change to the custom FW there is NO going back to the XM version UNLESS they release a new FW. JUST A FYI!
Ryan do you think one might "fall off the truck" for my SL2?
How convenient.
IMPORTANT!
A member of XMFAN. Upgraded his Inno1 to the custom FW from XM FW 1.05 to the 2.11 CUSTOM FW. IT -BRICKED- HIS INNO1. I did the upgrade on my Inno1 already having XM FW 2.11 then applied Custom 2.11 and it worked fine.
PUT SIMPLY!
UPGRADE TO XM FW 2.11 FIRST!!!!!
THEN UPGRADE TO THE CUSTOM 2.11.
Thanks a lot. Won't know if it worked til I borrow a pair of eyes, but thanks a lot.
Make sure your inno/helix is already on fw 2.11 or it may break your inno/helix.
I came across one instance of someone on fw 1.05 and they did this and now they're inno is broken.
Does anything like this exist for the Samsung Helix?
Yep this will work with Helix and Inno
Doesnt work unless docked? Cant broadcast over FM while portable? That kind of sucks.
I can verify that my 1.10 bricked when I tried to update to this firmware.
Thanks, but sounds too risky for me.
I'd LOVE to have the FM mod. back, but can't
afford to screw things up...
Upgraded my Inno 1 to firmware 2.11 from XM's site first. Then applied hacked version. Worked like a champ! Thanks a million!
I put the new firmware on both my Inno and my Helix but I can't get to the Modulator Screen to change the frequency. Can someone help?
Scott,it will broadcast fine while portable but you need to plug in either a pair of headphones or the power cord. It uses the wire as the FM antenna.
Anyone have any idea how to unbrick one of these?
I installed the firmware update for my pinnoer inno and I notice that the delay when listinging to sports synced up to the tv it's now 2 secs insted of 5-7 sec's.
yah... bricked my 1.05 inno, too... a very sad day, since everything was working fine... anyone have any guidance to unbrick your radio (or someone who does it at a fair price?)... and, if not, and i made a $200 mistake, what would be the best-next-move?
many thanks
the idiot who bricked her inno for no good reason
umm... do you think you can make updated stiletto 2 firmware fall out of the same truck? gee, this firmware could fix love, channel logos, oh and MEMORY CORRUPTION?!?!
oh well...
Now my Inno thinks it is a Samsung Helix and still only works when sitting in car cradle.
Now what d I do ?
I tried it. Copied it to my "root" my music, and xmsys, still wont update my inno1.
What am I doing wrong?
Wow. Now that the firmware has been cracked, is it possible that all the annoying bugs in the 2.11 firmware (DST mess, unordered lists, et al) might actually be fixed by programmers outside of XM?
I'd be swooning right now had I not decided to cancel my Inno's subscription at the end of the month in protest of the price increases...
Can anyone confirm that the FM Mod will work the same way that it works in v1.05? With the same FM Mod signal strength?
Thanks.
And remember folks... if you brick your unit to give the folks from TSS Radio a call and order a new one. :)
So Im guessing its not such a great idea to give this a try on my inno 2.
INNO1
I did this and it worked. However, when I turn the Inno off and then back on, the FM modulator does not work. To get it to work, I have to manually go back into settings: FM Frequency: FM Tuner: On
Is there anyway that I don't have to do this every time I restart the Inno?

Works great on my Helix.
This mod did not work at all on my inno1 or my inno2.Unless i am not understanding the Inno root directory. i placed the file in the xmsys file nest to the my music file. am i getting this right?
Works fine for me. Thanks
Inno 1 with 2.11
Bob: it goes in the root, not the xmsys file.
Got it and it works fantastic. For those of you who are not very savvy like myself the root is actually just placed in the same window as the My Music and the xmsys file folders. works great. only weird this is that at start up it displays the samsung name.
so the update works for me, I have the FM Mod option in setting and everything looks normal.
I have turn the FM MOd Mode to "ON" but the radio is not picking it up.
I have tried multiple channels, different cars.
Any ideas?
Thanks you guys!! I stopped using my Helix for a while and now, because I stopped using XM on that radio and just have a main car SkyFi unit now. This brings new life int it! It works great :D Interesting thing however that I noticed, has to be docked no matter what for it to go, but it doesn't seem like it needs to be connected to anything..it just needs to have something "there", in the port. Here's something also VERY interesting. When I put it in the dock, the FM modulator sounds like absolute sh*t after moving more than 5 feet away. However, when I plugged them into my portable XM headphones (they're for the SkyFi3 I believe, but work the same way..got them for $5 shipped on Crutchfield), the FM modulator increase drastically!! I mean it's so ridiculously clear, I'm halfway across the room and it sounds as though it's an line-in!!
Curious why this "leaked" F/w works that way. Ideas you guys? Maybe more entice to still buy the car dock maybe? I only tested it with the home dock FYI so maybe my XM headphones recognize as the car dock maybe?
...Thanks again Orbitcast! I may re-sign up for XM for a while with this unit just to blast through everyone's car speakers :D
I have an Inno1 and it acts like nothing changed, what did I do wrong?
Gene
I have read several comments about the performance of the newly hacked FM mod. Here are some answer to the questions posted and some advice:
The FM mod requires an antenna. In the Myfi, it was internal. With the Inno, it is external. There are a couple of options: headphones (or headphone cable), the dock's antenna or the adaptor cable used for power outside of the dock as there is a connection for the antenna ground. One of these MUST BE CONNECTED. The inno is metal and an internal antenna would not have worked.
Next, you must manually turn on the FM Mod after a power cycle when not docked. This is to keep you from broadcasting inadvertently on a plane and it saves your battery life.
Third, remove all pharite beads (plastic cylinders on the cables) these are designed to stop the leaky FM mod. You want leaky, leaky is good. They serve no other purpose than to lower the power of the FM Mod.
Lastly, your welcome.
I finally got around to doing this and it worked perfectly. I first updated my v1.05 to the real v2.11 before doing this. Couldn't be a simpler process.
Can someone briefly explain the big differences between 1.05 and 2.11, I've never updated mine because the FM mod is so important to me. If the update is worth it I'll do it.
For those that haven't been able to update, make sure you actually are using the doc, with AC power connected when you unplug the usb from the computer. If the unit is not plugged into AC in the dock, it will not initiate the update
Did everything according to posts and it worked like a charm.
Tried this on my GEX-Inno2 and it worked flawlessly. Thanks so much, it was a total pain to use a separate FM Transmitter in my truck.
Thanks for the update, I upgraded from a myfi and really missed the modulator out of car dock. I've found that the adapter cable for the portable charger works as a great antenna, never used it anyway.
Guys I just upadate my INNO1 with ver 2.11 firmware from XM and then installed the hacked 2.11 firmware as recommended, my Inno works like a charm and the FM Modulator is working great.
Many thanks SOLCAT!!!
For anyone having problems with the unit not updating try these directions
1) connect to home dock with AC plugged in
2) connect to PC
3) add file to base directory of Inno
4) safe unplug the USB cable only (very important to leave unit in homedock with AC power connected)
5) It will scan and reboot and done
- You know your successful when you see a Samsung logo at the bootup.
-NOTE: FM modulator must be turned on every time unit is plugged into home dock.
- NOTE: if you have ferrites (cylinders) on your cords leaving the home unit, these greatly diminish the broadcasting power of your unit, consider finding cables without ferrites.
Ok some of you say yes to the FM on the INNO2 and some say No. Could someone please tell me if I'm waisting time. I installed the file in to the main directory and noting.. rebooted with battery out and tried again.. What am I doing wrong?
Help Thanks Eddie
Sorry I thought I had an Inno2 as that's whats under the battery, but the firmeware updater says I have an Inno1 with the latest FW.. ok back to my other problem, I installed the FW crack and I can't get it to work at all.. Please tell me what I am doing wrong.
Thanks
Eddie J. Lake Grove,NY
I hope we can get this to work.. can't wait
Sick!!
Wondering...the "real" upgrade to 2.11 and then this version. when I safely removed the usb connection it scanned like it normally would went off and back on at least once and is now at the "please wait" screen...been there for about 5 min or so....
continue waiting or reboot it?
What do you think?
I have -- had :( -- an Inno1. Upgraded to 2.11 directly from XM. Installed the custom 2.11 from here, heeding the warning taht it may brick. Well, it bricked - only shows POWERING UP when you turn power on, nothing else. Oh well. Others reported great success, so maybe I did something wrong. If anyone now what can be done with this....thanks.
Worked on my Inno however the FM modulator signal is very week...even with all tricks listed above. I bought mine as a refurb, perhaps it was flakey from the get go.
Many thanks to those that developed and came forth with this crack!
This worked on my pioneer inno. I already had 2.11 on it. The FM signal was very weak and plugging in my headphones did nothing. However, I tried the travel charger adapter and the signal was greatly improved. From the other side of the room its still very clear. Thanks
