Is Bubba leaving Sirius?

Bubba The Love SpongeBubba The Love Sponge's contract with Sirius Satellite Radio, Inc. is coming up for renewal in December/January, and it's long been known that the negotiations between the two parties have not been going too well.

A recent blog post by Bubba seems to indicate that the grumblings about being underpaid and underappreciated by Sirius are coming to a head, and that the contract might very well not be renewed:

"the amount of money they have given non-radio people is absolulty insane….we meanwhile have done radio, and good radio i might add, for over 20 years, we are radio people that know the business, but because we are not martha stewart, or lance armstrong, or jamie foxx, granted all of which are big time names, but none have ever done radio. sirius feels they can pay us pretty much anything they want….and give us take it or leave it type options……..if you only knew some of the stuff they have done to us,"

Howard Stern this morning even brought up the situation with Bubba, giving his full support on the air, but expressed a level of doubt that the negotiations can be resolved.

The real looming question is whether Bubba has another offer on the table. He was seen exiting Cox Radio offices with his agent, fueling speculation of his return to terrestrial radio.

This morning though, Bubba confirmed that two offers from terrestrial radio companies are currently on the table:

"its kind of sad that i have two regular radio offers on the table that are willing to pay me over double right now to come back. granted i wont have as much fun, but at least i will have a steady contract for a long time, with good money and they (regular radio) will treat me as a valueable asset, not talk down to me, and push me around like the way i am being treated now…"

Many would hate to see Sirius go, especially since many Howard listeners have become Bubba fans. But as it stands, it definitely doesn't sound hopeful...

No one cares. No one cares (sing it with me)

This is really dissapointing, I never listen to Howard, his show is just boring, he puts me to sleep. But Bubba on the other hand, the times I do listen to his show(I normally listen to Covino and Rich), the show is fun to listen to. There's a reason I turn off the never ending music to listen to talk radio, and it's because I enjoy it, and I know there are plenty of other people do. Sad move if he doesn't come back. :(

"I wouldn't want to work in the same industry as a love sponge".

Hoo Hoo Howie

TELL 'EM FRED. I invented the love sponge...

I thought Stern`s deal covers paying for Bubba,Ferrell and others.

The first couple months Bubba was on Sirius, I would have said I wouldn't care about him staying or leaving after his contract, and would switch over to Breuer Unleashed. Shortly after they seemed to hit a stride that I really love now. It's a different perspective then Howard's show on a lot of topics, and actually more risk taking...even with the stomping on his bits. I really hope they can reach some sort of deal before he's reduced to doing free, no good content, no laughs, don't say that radio. But, if he doesn't stay with Sirius, best of luck to him...and good luck to whoever they try to replace him with. Big shoes to fill.

"I thought Stern`s deal covers paying for Bubba,Ferrell and others."

So did i.

No one cares. No one cares

We have been told by Doberman (Tyler Savery), Rich, and others that Bubba was being paid out of Howard's $150,000,000/year. So, why is Bubba negotiating with Sirius in the first place? Shouldn't he be negotiating with Stern?

Please, Bubba, don't sign that contract!!!!!

Bubba's show sucks, he's just a Stern rip-off for redneck hillbillies. I know Sirius has a lot of trucker subscribers so having his show makes sense, but I personally can't listen to him without wanting to poke my ears out.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer cahuuuunnnntttt......

I'm not a fan of Bubba or Howard anymore, (meaning I used to be a Stern addict, but I haven't listened to either of these guys in at least 6 months). However, I do see their value in the SatRad realm. From a business standpoint, I think it would be a shame for Sirius to let Bubba go back to regular radio.

"We have been told by Doberman (Tyler Savery), Rich, and others that Bubba was being paid out of Howard's $150,000,000/year. So, why is Bubba negotiating with Sirius in the first place? Shouldn't he be negotiating with Stern?"

Stern = Sirius. You didnt get the memo?

see ya bubbs. his show only appeals to hicks anyway. i hope they use the money to keep O&A aboard after the merge. the boys have a much better show and the potential of howard vs the boys fireworks are to good to pass up.

I thought the $500 million Howard received was to cover all the content on his channels. I thought Howard was paying Bubba. Apparently this is not the case.

From Marks Friggin http://marksfriggin.com/news.htm#tue

"Howard went on to say that he thinks that Bubba should have a place there at Howard 101 but it's up to management to come up with the money or to change things. He said he hopes that they come together and keep Bubba around. He said he's very appreciative of what Bubba is doing and what he's done so far. He said he didn't hire the guy himself, SIRIUS did, but he would like to see him stay on there. He was just asked if he wanted Bubba on his channel there and he said he did."

I always thought Howard hired Bubba, but I guess not. Still, Bubba is the #2 guy on the channels... don't forget Friday mornings. If/when Howard leaves Sirius in 3 years, who else would replace him other than Bubba?

"I always thought Howard hired Bubba, but I guess not. Still, Bubba is the #2 guy on the channels... don't forget Friday mornings. If/when Howard leaves Sirius in 3 years, who else would replace him other than Bubba?"

Someone with talent? In a post merger environment i elect Ron and Fez.

>>> "I always thought Howard hired Bubba, but I guess not. Still, Bubba is the #2 guy on the channels... don't forget Friday mornings. If/when Howard leaves Sirius in 3 years, who else would replace him other than Bubba?"

Then, I'd be pissed, too -- Stern is getting a personal fortune, while Bubba is having to scrounge for tidbits. I think they ought to be giving Bubba at LEAST $25 Million/year, if they're going to give Stern $150M.

Anyway, I thought Doberman Tyler and Sirius_Rich were the gurus of all things Sirius. I'm shocked that they got this wrong.

Don't let the door hit you in your big fat ass on your way out, Bubba. I wonder how long before that Bubba blows his next radio deal? What's the over/under?

All the debate and the answers have been there since the beginning for everyone to read.

From 8 k filed 10-6-04 - http://investor.sirius.com/edgar.cfm?PageNum=9&DocType=&SortOrder=Date%20Descending&Year=

"Our aggregate fixed obligations under the agreement are approximately $100 million per year. These costs include production and operating costs for the show, including compensation of show cast and staff, overhead, construction costs for a dedicated studio, a budget for the development of additional programming and marketing concepts, and payments to Stern and his agent."

A BUDGET FOR ADDITIONAL PROGRAMMING AND MARKETING CONCEPTS (that would be Bubba). It is in Black and White fors god's sake!

Howard pitches his ideas, they are paid for from the budget by Sirius.

Everyone seems to like to think that all of that money is Howards. It is not the case at all, and never has been. The cost of what is attributed to howard is inclusive of Bubba, staff, Ferall, etc. It is not Howards money to pay out, it is part of the budget for the "Stern Channels'"

JckMyrhffr, How can you like Bubba? Isn't anyone that does a comedy talk show ripping off Howard? Or are you admitting that there is plenty of variation & Hoo Hoo doesn't have a patent on talking on the radio? I ask this because you always repeat that O&A are clones. Does this not stand for Bubba or is that just because he's sucked Howie's cock and is acceptable to you. If Howard wanted Bubba around, he'd still be there. Can't wait to see his big terrestrial deal. Maybe he can pick up some of Mancunt's markets.

I do think they need to resign him but might be waiting until after they know whats going on with the merger
I also think they should have an idea what number of listeners Bubba gets, advertisement on his show and come upp with a new figure as im sure he was signed for pennies and now wants more---Sirius has to be repectable while watching their bottom line--A fair raise is warranted

"Anyway, I thought Doberman Tyler and Sirius_Rich were the gurus of all things Sirius. I'm shocked that they got this wrong."

========================

What do you expect? His name isn't even "Tyler Savery"...

•pfreak•-"JckMyrhffr, How can you like Bubba? Isn't anyone that does a comedy talk show ripping off Howard? Or are you admitting that there is plenty of variation & Hoo Hoo doesn't have a patent on talking on the radio?..."

Show me where I said Hoo Hoo has a patent on talking on the radio. Show me where I've mentioned O.O&A and not included that fact that I do listen to O.O&A at work for the 8-9am hour (and I don't like them, and don't enjoy it), while a co-worker listens before we listen to the West Coast Feed of Howard (out of respect for the co-worker). And also show me where I don't state that I love stirring up shit between the O.O&A and Howard fans. It's funny that you take this stuff so serious. If Sirius signed O.O&A, i'd still not listen...I'd still stir up shit...it's funny. Until it gets old and I stop posting for a while.

I find Bubba's show growing on me more and more. Funny bits. Good topics of conversation. And just overall a better product the O.O&A. Over the period that O.O&A have been on free radio, they've not gained me as a fan at all. And I still question O.O&A's loyalty to XM/XM fans for going free, doing it during the drive time hours, censoring the show, and always trying to keep the show going on censored radio past 9am.

O.O...because even if it's not true, it rubs you pests the wrong way.

Newsflash assheads, Bubba is 10x funnier than O&A.

Ryan, you say that it's "long been known" that Bubba's been unhappy at Sirius, but this is the first I've heard of it. (Maybe I haven't been reading closely enough?) I think this is exactly the sort of speculation that would help populate the blog on a slow news day, and exactly the sort of thing that non-Bubba fans would be interested to hear but not normally exposed to... in other words, something a satellite radio blog might want to cover from the beginning?

I'm not saying you should be an investigative reporter. But if you've known about this for a while... please, pass it along.

"Howard Stern this morning even brought up the situation with Bubba, giving his full support on the air"

Oh really?

Here's exactly what Howard thinks of Bubba: "He sucks, he's a ripoff artist"

andy andy andy.....get hold of yerself booba aint portaint nuff for his own posins on dis here blawg. Now i used ta listen to booby from F L A when he first got serious but his show put me to sleep. OanDA are mooch moes topical day ceeps the conversatiom goin good ands make my heisman belly laughfs fully'er.........

R&F RULe!!!!!!

Bubba is the man.Sirius would be foolish to let him go.Pay the guy and get it over with.

Thanks

I wish Bubba would move over to XM. I love XM but they are a little light in the "adult" talk radio channels and he would definitely add some punch to their lineup.

I like how the hackbag.com A-holes have to chime in about Sirius (O&A's soon to be boss). Isn't there a puddle of something you can slip into. O&A blow, that CBS radio show is some REAL compelling radio. Still in 22nd place in NYC - their home market......lol

Bubba TLS is a damn good show. If XM and Sirius are to be one satellite company, we want all of the good shows and adult content to be on Satellite. I don't really care for O & A, but I could care less if they are on the same radio station, so why the knock on Bubba, or Howard for that matter? Oh.... I forgot.... the fake radio war.
Seriously.....Grow up.

"Newsflash assheads, Bubba is 10x funnier than O&A."

O yeah, Well O and A are 11x funnier than howard

Take that

im a stern fan and bubba is fat hack, get him off the fucking stern channels and put him on redneck radio

All this contract shit is nothing but a work by Bubba.

Bubba is the absolute worst. I’m hoping Sirius doesn’t sign this worthless untalented piece of garbage. Opie & Anthony are a thousand times more talented then Bubba and Opie & Anthony suck. I don’t see many people dropping their subscriptions because some irrelevant hack named Bubba the Love Sponge is not on Sirius anymore. He is simply not a big draw. Sirius doesn’t have this huge incentive to sign him. Let’s actually get someone with talent to do a show on Howard 101 because Bubba is beyond terrible and Ferrell is bad.

The blog post by Bubba is gone! Probably a smart post by a man in negotiations. Or..... Did he make his decision back to terrestrial radio already!

if the man is smart, he doesnt go back to normal radio----or at least make it a last minute decision---He also should be looked at as a eventual replacement for Stern so he does deserve a raise, as long as its not a bank breaker to the bottom line--Bubba should also realize he can cash in when sterns contract is up--let sirius balance sheet get strong, then cash in

Sirius has done a wonderful securing top-notch talent and I really think that Bubba is top-notch. Some of the "big names" found on channels, such as Faction, are just that "big names" and nothing more! Bubba puts out a great product five days a week and it would be a crying shame to see him leave. Hindsight is 20/20... Just ask the terrestrial radio stations that are trying to get him back on their airwaves.

Good bye, bubba. Fortunately, this will free up Sirius 101 for more Stern programming, which I will look forward to. I never enjoyed bubba, I was eager to hear him when he started at Sirius, Howard created some buzz, but, god, what a trash talker this "love sponge" is. His show is pathetically perverted. Who needs 'em?

More howard programming? What, running his show 24/7 on 100 isn't enough for you? Get a life.

@Andy: Sorry you're right. Bubba had mentioned it several times on the air and its been brought up in various interviews.

I've been wanting to write about it, but Bubba's blog post (now since removed from his website) summed it all up - adding in his emotions about the situation.

JckMyrhffr, I'm not a pest & don't get angry at web posts. You don't get under my skin. You're not the "stir it up" guy you think. You are a Hoo Who fan that lies under the guise of just kidding. I just point it out. If you have a valid point to make, make it. If you just want to stir it up, don't expect anything you say to be taken seriously. I know, you're forced at gunpoint to listen at work because a co-worker does. How about telling them to turn it down/off if you hate it so much? That's what I do when some shithead plays music I don't want to hear. You're a fan, that's why. As much as you want to hate it, you can't turn it off. Keep listening dummy.

•pfreak•
Ok, smart guy. If I share a common radio in one room that we both share with no windows and it's positioned where I put my Sirius antenna to get a signal, through a wall-and yet through another wall made of sheet metal and concrete, where I'm lucky enough to get two bars to listen (and since the FM modulator only goes like 3ft)...why reposition/turn down/turn off a radio for someone who shares that radio who's sitting on the opposite side of the room. They wouldn't be able to hear it at all. I will keep listening to O&A as long as we share one radio and both are Howard fans, and keep pointing out how O&A doing hack radio to make fun of hack radio, makes them hacks in my opinion. Pretty sure the key words are 'my opinion'.

"You are a Hoo Who fan that lies under the guise of just kidding."
Show me where I lie. I've obviously done something to make you care that I like Bubba and not O&A or you wouldn't even mention my posts...and I did say "I find Bubba's show growing on me more and more. Funny bits. Good topics of conversation. And just overall a better product the O.O&A. Over the period that O.O&A have been on free radio, they've not gained me as a fan at all." Valid enough a point for you, or do you just ignore?

And also show me where I'm stirring up anything on this thread. So far I've just made a statement about being a Bubba fan. Not liking O&A. And, put a bunch of retarded O.Os. I'm not stirring up anything at all. Keep your grudge with me going, but prove my Opinion wrong at some point, since you "I just point it out".

Well, here's the difference in service. I have to go through 3 concrete walls but XM still has the repeaters in place to make sure I get a perfect signal. But there are many, many stations you could be listening to. But you choose to listen to O&A. Before it was because your co-worker was a fan, now you both hate them & listen to make fun of the show. Make up your mind. Wasting 5 hours of your life a week listening to a show you claim to hate is really pathetic. Why not turn on Hoo Who over the internet feed if you're both big Hoo Who fans? Because you are a lying O&A fan. You are the chuch lady that used to listen to every second of Howie because it angered her so much. As I said, keep listening and keep enjoying the show and keep "stirring it up" crazy guy.

pfreak, show me where I compared XM service and repeaters to Sirius service and repeaters. Also show me where I said my co-worker isn't an O&A fan along with being a Howard fan. As you've already tried to say in me liking Bubba and Howard. Everyone has their own tastes. I respect the people I work with enough to let them listen to whatever they want. And we're not able to use internet streaming at work, because of bandwidth issues in the company. So, speak more of which you don't know.

Your arguements are weak to the point of complimenting yourself over you being wrong. SHOW me I'm a liar. SHOW me where I tried stirring up something on here. SHOW me where I get offended and complain (because if you can find something that offends me on the radio, more power to that show).

Guys, guys, please... let it go. Just go to the Rocky Dennis and Todd show instead.

Keep listening.

I tried to get into Bubba's show for a month and finally had to give up. If he leaves Sirius, it won't be too soon. Hopefully, he'll be replaced by someone more listenable (but wth my luck, it'll probably just mean more airtime for Ferrall, who I gave up on after a week).

Whether you like Bubba or are appalled by him, he is truly a professional broadcaster. He knows how to effectively run a radio show every single day. It would be a shame if Sirius couldn't come up with the money to keep him. Howard claims that he's doing everything he can for Bubba, but you have to wonder if he really is. I don't think Bubba would have anything to complain about if Howard put his foot down to Sirius.
