Rumor has it that Bubba The Love Sponge is leaving Sirius XM Radio Inc. in January, and that an announcement of his status at the company could be coming as early as Monday morning.
Orbitcast has learned that Bubba will be departing the world of Satellite Radio for a terrestrial syndication deal with Cox Broadcasting, according to people familiar with the matter. Bubba The Love Sponge is said to be adding 96.5 WHTQ in Orlando and 93 Rock in Miami to his roster of syndicated stations, these people said.
As to who will be replacing Bubba? Sources told Orbitcast that Neil Rogers and Phil Hendrie have been named as possible replacements on the Howard 101 channel.
Additionally, FMQB is reporting that an announcement about Bubba's status at Sirius XM could be coming as early as Monday morning.
Upon further inquiry, Orbitcast has confirmed with Bubba's representatives that a Monday announcement is indeed true, though details of the exact nature of the announcement remain unknown. "We are not responding to rumors about its subject," a representative for Bubba said.

I have nothing against "Bubba" but I never could get into his show or his type of humor. Ferrell either, for that matter. The only thing I listen to on Howard 101 is Riley Martin and Chuck Zito's show, but neither one is on enough, so I usually miss them. Now Phil Hendrie is a real step up in veteran broadcasting experience, and will be a much needed improvement, if Sirius does sign him. I used to listen to his show from Chicago years ago and he is a really funny class act. I hope they sign him.
Bubba is a big part of the Howard stations. He needs to be kept. For Howard to attempt to put in a lot of energy into building another aspect of his brand will be quite a feat. I hope Bubba stays on Sirius.

Just because Bubba is announcing signing some syndication deals doesn't mean he won't return to Sirius. This story at this point is way more rumor than fact.
He's announcing 4 new syndicated cities for 2009 on Monday.
From what I've been able to ascertain, they are:
Miami
Orlando
Phoenix
and, maybe, Pittsburgh.
He's still in negotiations and will no doubt re-sign with SiriusXM and will also be adding more AM syndicated cities before the end of this year.
If Bubba does not stay with sirus it will bring satellite radio to there destruction, Bubba is the number 2 show on all of satellite radio, how can you not give him a great contract. The long awaited and much known about syndication announcement is coming out. About damn time, we've only heard about it for the past 6 months or more. And more power to Bubba and the rest of the BRN for getting the deals they did.
And yes the rumors run rampant across the internet, and many of them turn out to be just that. Like O&A were gone because "Mel would never hire them", etc. etc. His syndication announcement means nothing to his future with sirius, and they (like anyone that has listened to the show lately) was well aware they were coming down the pipeline. The only effect it may have on a Sirius deal is they may not sweeten the pot as much because he is even less exclusive.
If Sirius doesn't have Bubba come back I think they will be doing a disservice to a number of their customers, unfortunately it seems that may be the case more often then not lately.

SiriusXm won't be around in a few months the way things are going, there going to have a heck of a time getting financing to keep afloat. I love my sirius, and hope they can do something, I'm also a share holder and I'm taking a bath on that!! love him or hate him, bubba and crew are the next best thing to the stern show (if not better). they have worked their asses off the past year and it's a shame to see them go (if indeed they are leaving). any true fan of radio should respect the effort they put into their show. my afternoons and friday mornings will have a major void if they don't return to satellite.

Last year Sirius made a big mistake when they allowed Bubba to return to regular radio and just to show Sirius they can't tell him take it or leave it offer this time. Sirius pays no good talent multi million dollar contracts to those who bring no content, it's time for Sirius to pay up to Bubba and give him and his crew what they are owed. Bubba's show has been great lately and his election coverage was actually some of the best.
I will absolutly consider cancelling if Bubba leaves. Sirus is banking on Howard 100% and he can't run the whole ship anymore. His fans have come over already. That being said howard is the best of the 4, though thats not enough to keep satrad anyway. That is the dumbest thing I have read. The XM playlists were FAR deeper and more varied than Sirius. The music channels have gone downhill since Sirius has taken them over. I don't need to hear a U2 song six times an hour.

Then you must not have listened very long. Channel 48 introduced me to many different artists. Deep Tracks, channel 40, played music from known artists that was very off the beaten path. Boneyard, Ethel, Lucy, Fred, the list goes on. Also, if the channel said XL, it truly was uncensored. Not this crap that we have now. You may be happy with the music, but take a look around the forums and you will see most people preferred the way the music was.
As far as Bubba, I never said I hate Bubba. I gave him a fair try. Didn't like it. I MOVED ON. I am well aware how many channels I have available, but like most people, I have my groupings that I prefer. When I said "Best Of", I meant the Bubba show I was listening to was supposed to be his Best Of, as in he was not live that day. I mainly subscribed to the Best of Sirius to get the NFL. I do sometimes listen to Howard and O&A. I am not trying to dissuade anyone, I am just relaying my personal experience to try to keep this thread on topic.

All i can say is its a shame if bubba leaves sirius. I think bubba should stay on. It took me about 6 months to warm up to Bubba. Now it's my favorite show. If Bubba leaves, and Howard goes too, Bye bye subscription. Sirius is maing a BIG MISTAKE letting him go. I would have purchased lifetime subscriptions for my 4 radios, but not now. No way. Not with Bubba gone and Howard retiring.
Bubba just needs to stay. The way it looks Sirius isn't going to be around that long anyways.
