FCC Chairman Kevin MartinMums the word for FCC chairman Kevin Martin about the merger between Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. and XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. at a recent meeting with reporters at the agency's DC headquarters.

Martin said he had no comment on the timing for a decision. When asked whether the FCC had waited for the Justice Department's decision to issue its own ruling Martin told Radio Ink,  "I wouldn't say that the DOJ was slowing us down."

He also rejected the suggestion that the FCC is holding out for a unanimous 5-0 commission vote on the deal, but said, "I always think it's preferable that we have a unanimous decision."

In related news, representatives from Sirius and XM met with Chairman Martin and Daniel Gonzalez on Wednesday (PDF). The subject of the meeting focused on - once again - the review of "pending issues raised in recent filings."

The Department of Justice approved the Sirius-XM merger over a month ago.

What a loser.

THAT BASTARD!

Didn't he say waaaaaaay back in friggin NOVEMBER that the FCC would decide right after the DOJ???

The insanity of this situation defies description.

I know he has to bite his tongue until the deal is done....BUT COME ON...I don't know how Mel is keeping from losing his mind.

This is ridiculous. I want to draw Kevin Martin's face on my punching bag and go to work.

He looks like a punk.

LOL you guys are so worked up over this...only to be disappointed when this ends

Wouldn't you expect Gary and Mel to announce an agreement extension soon? It's almost May 1st.

well, that's obvious, duh.

That it is taking so long and now Martin says the DOJ did not slow the FCC down makes me think that they are waiting for the lawsuit that gives Sirius protection from a shareholder lawsuit. When that protection is in place i think we will see the merger ok and not until then.
The FCC has had way more than enough time and i think everybody is now thinking something funny is going on.

I have had enough of this! So, I've decided to hit back. I have hijacked my own website and devoted it to a nationwide boycott of terrestrial radio on May 1, 2008. Please help me fight back. www.javafor1.com

well it appears kevin martin has more important plans this weekend!
word is he'll be shopping at bloomingdales for that important dress he'll be wearing for the merger announcement!....so maybe SAT-RAD wont be the only company that gets Fu*ked!!!!

If this twinkle toes little c-sucker doesnt approve this bitch before my options expire, I'm going to friggin kill him.

By the way, you have to see this girl wearing a mini-skirt sitting at a high-top in front of me at the starbucks off wall street. sans panties brothers. Just a nice moment in time while I'm waiting for Dipshit Martin to get off the pot.

Word has it today that there will be NO decision before late May - early June. So everybody take some Zoloft and settle down. This will take 100% as long as it will take to finally settle.

It looks like XM and Sirius will have to extend again in order to merge. The decision is taking way too long.

Whether it ends in approval or not, the FCC should be ashamed of themselves for taking this long and still not having a decision.

It must be nice having a job where you make up your own work and don't set deadlines. If my manager asked me how long it would take for me to get a project done and my response was "I'm taking my time and will be done when I'm done", I'd be axed in an instant.

Hey Kevin...GO SCREW!

WAIT A MINUTE!!!
HE SAID A MONTH AGO THAT THE FCC WILL RULE SOON AFTER THE DOJ DOES.
HE ALSO SAID THAT HE HAD ASKED DRAFTS TO BE MADE...

I HOPE THIS IS JUST CLOUDY BECAUSE OF THE DECISION BEING NEAR, OTHERWISE SOMETHING SMELLS BAD HERE..
JMHO

^^ Dragline: Obviously you don't work in government. :D

I hate Kevin Martin. Really.....

The FCC commissioners should be fired. They should be investigated for incompitence and malfience. This has the look of a criminal organization along with the rest of the Exec. branch of our government.

RoboKevin will make his announcement when the NAB, Terrestrial Lobbyists, and George and Dick run out of delaying tactics. If the Satellite merger was money in the bank for those two war profiteers it would have happened overnight but NAB and Clear Channel have been to lucrative to their future retirement to make the common man happy.

It gets worse. Check this out:

Looks like mid May at the earliest.

Martin is one of Bush's better people...... great job Brownie!

What do you expect from a guy that started a war based on non-existent WMD's?
Martin reflects his bosses attitude and competence.

Martin is a punk liar. He has lied on at least three occasions. He needs a fucking beating.

If our fearless leader and his scandalous, corrupt ridden cronies had scrutinized the decision to go to war like they have this deal, there would be thousands of American soldiers alive today. This administration will go down in history as the MOST incompetent, corrupt, selfserving bunch of misfits this country has ever experienced. What the FCC and DOJ have done to these companies is at the very least a profound injustice; more likely it is criminal and there certainly should exist grounds for a lawsuite. All of this wasted time and money over two companies that are bleeding to death, as our elected officials stand at the ready, shovels in hand, eager to throw dirt on the coffin!

I hope the reality of the above statement can stay fresh in everyones mind come November and we can look beyond the fact that the candidate is a woman or a black man because, war hero or not, The Republican vote will only continue what we have endured the last seven and a half years.

NO! to "merge" MONOPOLY!

"The Republican vote will only continue what we have endured the last seven and a half years." Posted by: Greyfurgang

LOL. Electing a Democrat will get you no further...if anything they are less in favor of monopolies than any Republican ever thought of being!

Yes, less in favor of monopolies but also less in favor of war and economic non action. I'm not anti big business by any means but if McCain continues running the show the way Bush has, we are going to be selling apples and standing in breadlines like in the 30s and their wont be anything to merge.

Kevin Martin is milking this merger for every penny he can. He is a Lame Duck, just like the administration that appointed him. They don't have to do anything for anyone except themselves because they will all be gone Jan 2009 anyway.
