Leaked: New XM Channel Lineup
There's nothing I like better than leaked information, especially when it's about channel lineup changes. And it turns out that XM has a few changes coming down the pipe that have yet to be "official" yet. (oh goody!)
So I won't hype this up anymore than that, because the changes are pretty minor in the grand scheme of things.
First, XM Cafe (ch 45) is getting the boot, and Hear Music (ch 75) will be moving in its place. They're then renaming Hear Music to something a bit more intuitive, like Starbucks XM Cafe (The Sound of Starbucks).
Second, and far more exciting, is a new channel is moving its way onto the XM lineup: XM Exclusives (ch 2). XM Exclusives will be the exclusive home for exclusive programming airing exclusively on XM.
Mondays air Artist Confidentials, Tuesdays get Ludacris - Open Mic, Wednesdays have Bob Dylan's Theme Time Radio Hour, Thursdays welcome Tom Petty's Buried Treasure, and Fridays/Weekends are home to various "XM Stars."
(It's about time a channel was dedicated to this type of programming!)
Check out a super-secret leaked scan of the new XM channel lineup brochure (PDF), which also features a new look-and-feel. (Warning: it's fairly large.)

I'm sure its an oversight but 202 The ViRUS doesnt have a XL logo next to it. Or are the boys being censored?
Frrrrrrunkis!

I wish they would add MSNBC back to the lineup.

No mention of Ron & Fez on The Virus?

It has been mentioned on xmfan.com by rude that it is possible that XM Cafe could be adopting the Starbucks brand and Hear Music could be dropped.

>> I wish they would add MSNBC back to the lineup.
Why? Seems to me, other than extremely liberal news commentators (Matthews, Olberman), all they have is shows about how bad it is in prison (duh).
Honestly, MSNBC is one channel they've cut that I can't believe anyone actually misses.

This is fantastic! I love the Channel 2 idea. Last summer, when XM was still reading our emails, I sent an email trying to promotoe Prince Paul's Illout Show and suggested making XM Live a feature channel for exclusive content. While I'd like to see more variety, maybe a different genre or category per day, this will be a good start. Now if I can find a way to get XM to air Snoop's show during the day when I'm at work.

Where the hell are Ron & Fez?

Notice it says that this lineup is effective on July 1st...
Think we will see it Sunday?

Um, has anyone noticed the header that states "100% Commercial Free Music" ? It seems that the Clear Channel stations have been dropped. Hmmm.
Posted by: Cable Guy ? | June 29, 2007 10:17 PM
Oops, nope, the CC channels are still there.
So the "100% Commercial Free Music" statement is a little mis-leading. It only applies to that page of channels.
Posted by: Cable Guy ? | June 29, 2007 10:21 PM
No Ron & Fez 203?? What bullshit.
Posted by: Anonymous Coward | June 29, 2007 11:04 PM
actually, the channels that it says "100% commercial free music" over are all commercial free, the clear channel stations are on a different page notated that they do indeed include commercials

SIRIUS needs to do an "Exclusives" channel as well. Its a pain to search around the dial on to find out I've missed a show. Smart move XM.

Who cares that you have 6 stations with commercials when you have 69 WITHOUT commercials! The point is choice...and for a lot of us Satellite Radio is about having choices we don't have on traditional radio...out of market sports, niche formats,etc... The CC channels are of little consequence, as far as I am concerned.

It does not even mention Ron & Fez on The Virus only O&A. What a shame. I am sure they will be on 202 but why not mention them?
Until Extreme 152 is in the hands of XM I don't see the need for a R&F Channel. Clear Channel needs to go first.

I'm calling Bravo Sierra on this mess. This looks more like the old brochures. I think it's a mock-up, or just old. The new brochures have had a much different visual style. And they haven't put station descriptions on the guide in a few revs. The current one just took effect at the beginning of June!
I guess we'll see! If I remember correctly, they always show the listing weeks before its going into effect.

It's not like R & F have been taken off the air, they just aren't mentioned in the guide. and they are mentioned on the website, so quit bitching. God what a bunch of fucking crybabies.
Posted by: Toonhead ? | June 30, 2007 12:33 PM
The 2 most curious things to me are the fact that there is not an XL next to the listing for 202 (especially considering all the recent events with O&A), and the fact that the brochure says o & A will encore "around the clock", and give no mention to Ron and Fex

Well channel 2 for their exclusive programs hu?? Well I'd been hoping they would do that on their live channel, you know the one where "live" concerts were supposed to be.. Instead the live channel has come to be the biggest disappointment since they changed and "broke" it apart.. It never has a concert or live event on it.. Why call it live?? I wanted the old live channel with the concerts as well as the original programming on it.. I think XM would rather run a loop tape of "the program you're looking for has not yet started.." You know, the one that is on all the sports channels as well as the live channel and what not...

I still fail to see why everyone is so worried just because a channel guide leaves R & F out and so what if they forgot to put an XL designation for 202? If after the programming lineup officially changes, and the website matches up with what the guide says, then that's when people should be questioning things. Until then, enjoy your weekends and have fun for Christsakes. Life's too short to care about stupid shit like failing to mention things and leaving things out of a stupid program guide that isn't even official yet.

Didn't happen. D'oh. Was it July 1st or April 1st as implementation date? :)
Posted by: IdRatherBeSkiing | July 1, 2007 11:08 PM
I don't care so much about R&F going loveless in the brochure as much as I care about all the retarded channels that get bandwidth while the Buddays beg for the noon and midnight scraps. I have a hard time understanding how POTUS '08 gets the red carpet treatment while 203 languishes.

XM: Can we please ditch the CC filler and bring back Special X and Music Lab?
Posted by: Chris ? | July 2, 2007 9:01 AM
This whole 203 channel for R & F was never really made official, so unless something really big happens, I doubt very highly that it'll really happen. I'd really like to see Special X come back too. When I first got XM back in October of 2003, it was one of my favorite channels. It's available online now, but all the character has gone out of it now. it just plays random songs and there aren't any themes...no scary music on Halloween, no Frank Zappa themed shows, no baseball music accept for when they did that thing on channel 200 a while back, it just sucks. XM already knows a lot of people would listen to it so come on XM, get Special X back on the sats and let's have it like it was.

Not that it matters but I was wondering what happens to the "Extreme" channel lineup if or when WTKS gets sold?? Just wondering...
