Lee AbramsNow we know where Lee Abrams is going to after XM: Tribune Company.

He'll be joining the company as Chief Innovation Officer. and will be responsible for "innovation across Tribune's publishing, broadcasting and interactive divisions."

Abrams will come on board with Tribune on April 1st.

"Lee is the most formidable creative thinker in the media business today," said Tribune's president of broadcasting and interactive in the company's statement. "He invented the modern FM radio format, got satellite radio off the ground when no one gave it a chance, and managed to advise on the redesign of "Rolling Stone" magazine and the launch of TNT Cable Network in his spare time."

"Lee's going to pump new life into our content, re-energize our brands, and get people thinking and working together like they never have before."

Tribune's broadcasting group operates 23 television stations, Superstation WGN on national cable, Chicago's WGN-AM and the Chicago Cubs baseball team.

Keep in mind that Tribune is based in Chicago, Illinois - Lee's hometown.

And, he's starred in over 1,000 pornographic films! Quite a feat!

I think that it was Joe Clayton that got sat radio off the ground with bringing Howard to sat radio. All the press that Howard got made people aware that sat radio existed.

I wonder if Lee wanted Howard? XM did not want to pay for Howard but did Lee want him?

And, he's starred in over 1,000 pornographic films! Quite a feat!

yea Howard got Sat Radio off the ground, maybe Sirius

Howard invented SAT radio!!!!!!

No, Joe Clayton helped to run sat radio into the ground.

So he went home pretty much.

That and the fact that my Time Warner/Tribune/etc. looks good.

Lee Abrams? Who the hell is this guy? He looks like Ron Jeremy. This nobody did nothing for satrad. Howard and Mel are the reason that everybody knows about Sirius and satrad. Without them, this media is nothing. John is 100% correct.

Ron Jeremy? He looks like Jabba the Hutt right before he was strangled to death.

XM had several million subscribers before Howie took his little show to Sirius. XM is known for good music and creativity thanks to Lee. Sirius is known for being like FM minus the commercials plus lots of swearing thanks to Howard Stern and whoever else is programming their crappy stations.

You may want to brush up on your research there anonymous. Lee was one of the biggest reasons XM was the fastest growing music subscription service in history for its first 3 years. His knowledge and philosophy helped not only XM's programming, but the entire industry learn and appreciate good music diversity.

This sucks. I really liked what Lee brought to XM. He's got his stamp all over the original programming on XM. There's a reason XM subscribers rave about programming in general and Sirius subscribers only talk about Howard.

Ryan posted a video from lee's blog a while ago about how he developed the music station, or the thinking behind development, and it was very interesting. Ryan, still got that link hanging around?

Found it....on lee's blog of all places

This is not a shirt clip, so have some time to watch.

Although SIRI's content is obviously far superior to XM's, one cannot minimize Lee Abram's status as a visionary of SatRad. He's done a lot for the industry. Best wishes to him in his new position.

FWIW, those wondering who Lee Abrams is... Lee got Stern one of his first gigs in the radio biz in 1980. Stern and Lee go back almost 30 years.

Back when XM was courting Stern, he often talked about Lee on the air. They are long time friends... and as a consultant to terrestrial radio in the early 1990's, Lee was still touting Stern for FM rock stations.

Did Lee want Stern on XM? You bet your sweet ass he did.

Enough with the XM vs Sirius BS... it's old, very old. Ask Howard what he thought of Lee Abrams.

That's a matter of opinion. I don't care for shock jocks, either Stern or O & A or anyone else. XM's music programming is in my opinion superior to Sirius. Less repetitive, with better jocks. Their special programming is far better with all the stuff you hear on channel 2. Hell, Bob Dylan and Artist Confidential are worth the subscription by themselves. As far as 'single artist' channels, I'll put the Led Zeppelin channel that just closed down in front of Elvis (why do they ignore so much great Elvis material?) or the second go round of Springsteen.

The XM Public Radio channel is done better, with less repetition. No surprise since all the creativity in Public Radio is from PRI and independent stations. NPR has gotten fat and stupid sitting on their laurels. Give me Prairie Home Companion and Bob Edwards any day. Since Sirius doesn't carry Morning Edition or All Things Considered you might as well call it 'The Car Talk' channel. That's the only thing on it worth a damn.

"minus the commercials"?? Obviously you haven't listened to Stern recently. I don't blame you, I can't take it any more either. ;)

Lee was obviously one of the most influential people in Satrad LONG before 'the revolution' started. He will be sadly missed.

"Hoo, hoo, I invented satellite radio... tell 'em Robin"

A line from the movie, Grumpy Old Men.... "Wish in one hand and shit in the other....tell me which gets filled first".

Same with Lee and his artisitc flair at XM. Artistic means

Hooo Hooooo Robin...... I invented Lee Arbrams.

A line from the movie, Grumpy Old Men.... "Wish in one hand and shit in the other....tell me which gets filled first".

Same with Lee and his artistic flair at XM. Artistic means less than shite if you don't make
money on it.... and Lord Knows, XM doesn't know how to make money!!

Hooo Hooooo Robin...... I invented Lee Abrams.

Lee,
Please go to work for an oil company.. with your track record we could use it.
