Media Eats Up Mel's Merger Comments
Karmazin's latest comments to SmartMoney hinting toward a possible Sirius/XM merger are being eaten up by the press. Gee, who saw that coming.
No surprise as suggestions of a merger seem to get the media into a tizzy over even the slightest hint. This time around it the merger whispers haven't sent either stock soaring though. Interesting. Perhaps investors are getting wise to this ruse. Personally, I feel it's a distraction. And a useless one at that.
But maybe Mel isn't to blame. Maybe it's the unoriginal media and their boring obvious questions. Maybe a better question to have asked Karmazin, rather than this XM/SIRIUS merger nonsense, should have been: "How is Sirius planning on beating last year's Q4 subscriber additions?"
Perhaps then we would get an answer that's truely newsworthy.

Thank you for putting in a picture of Mel that doesn't show his Chiclet teeth :-)

You are certainly entitled to your own editorial comments, but why do you assume its a "ruse" when there is talk about merger? I assume you use that term pejoratively towards the writers of these articles and not Mel. But regardless, I think you should educate yourself about Mel's track record before you say its a ruse.

Not only beating, but having (one of?) the greatest quarters that either company has seen. Didn't Sirius 'only' add 1.1M subs in Q405? They'll have Nascar in 2007 and still have 4 more years of Howard, but I feel like that's not enough.

It is no surprise that Mel and Howard are soul mates. Tey both use the same tactics to get attention, but that doesn't always work.
Since the need to raise the stock, Mel is convinced that the merger talk will work. But you can only cry wolf so many times before people stop caring... or believing.
Maybe the media has realized that only Mel is talking abou this, and NO ONE else is.
He is like the guy who claims to have slept with the cheerleader and no one believes him, but he keeps saying it. It just becomes sad.

the only thing mel has "made a bitch" is trying to get sirius out of debt.

EVERYBODY IS WRONG IN HERE, XM HAS MORE TIME ON THE AIR, SIRIUS IS OLDER IF WE TALK ABOUT THE COMPANY NAME AND ALL THAT STUFF, BUT JUST SEEING HOW FAST IS SIRIUS GROWING, AND HEARING THE FEEDBACK FROM CUSTOMERS, SIRIUS IS WAY AHEAD OVER XM, JUST CHECK THE NUMBERS, SIRIUS IS GROWING %100 MORE THAN XM IN THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS. XM IS ONLY GOING BACK...

RAYMOND,
sirius only added about 150,000 more subs than xm last quarter which is less than the 202,000 sirius added the quarter before. if they continue at that rate it will take about 3 years to tie xm . sirius is not this fast moving machine that is taking over xm . xm's is slowly getting out of debt , sirius is still DEEP in the hole . who cares if you end up 10 million more subs if you can't pay off your debt .
