Mel Karmazin, CEO of the new Sirius XM Radio Inc., will sit down with acclaimed host Bob Edwards today to discuss the Sirius and XM merger. The show will air today, 8am ET on XM Public Radio (ch 133). Encore presentations of the show will air today at 9am ET, 10am ET, 8pm ET and again on Saturday at 8am ET.

Looks like Mel is still meeting with the help over at XM. First the 0.0 boys, now this guy.
What do Bob Edwards and 0.0 have in common? Neither will have their own channel next year.

OK, so the spin is going from "Opie & Anthony will be fired" to "Opie & Anthony won't have their own station."
Umm, they don't have their own station now. And neither does Bob Edwards (well, on the satellite).
This is why Mel Karmazin runs a major media corporation and you don't: he sees shows get listeners and make money, and isn't blinded by idiotic "radio wars".
That was actually one of the _best_ interviews of Mel I've heard to date. I've never listened to Bob Edwards before, but that was interesting to listen to.
I hope someone will make this discussion available to the Sirius folks.
Thanks
Bob Edwards is a hack wannabe Bubba. The other day he had some chicks fighing on his show to see who got to bang Ned.
OK, now that I have appeased the troll gods, Bob Edwards does actually have a great show but its hard to get into and remember who is on. A lot of the guests I have no desire to listen to, but on occasion hes got a winner, and hes a good interviewer as well.
Mel needs to sign a deal with the tivo people to allow recording from SiriusXm online directly to the box that would allow me to take recordings like this with me on my iPod. How great would that be? Online scheduling of shows, no need for a portable player, and they still make money from the sub. I would pay an extra $5.99 a month for that.
That's because the Bob Edwards show is designed for listeners with an IQ slightly above that of a small fur-bearing mammal. The short-attention span drones will never get it; no fart jokes or sexual innuendo.

Did he ask about Charlie Rose's interviewing style?

Or just make the show available through podcasting like Bob Edwards Weekend is. Especially if they wish to expose themselves to the iPod crowd who could otherwise give a rat's ass about terrestrial radio. XM has done a bang-up job with the podcasts on iTunes, Sirius needs to take the same philosophy into the new venture.
Well, Jon E, OandA are already availble on Audible, which is probably another strike against them in Mel's mind. He did however put a new spin on the ala carte in the Edwards interview, namely that for 6.95 you can pick any 50 channels from either platform. That's a lot of channels and if you can get both hoohoo and The boys, plus baseball and some interesting music, not to mention Jimmy Buffet and broadway music channels (Charles Nelson Riley sound effect here), that sounds good to me.

So basically according to the zombies, the entire XM on air staff is getting the sack and Hoo Hoo will be on channels 100-178...all Hoo Hoo, all the time (except Fridays). I hate Mel just as much as any other Mel hater on this board, but I think Jake has it right. No one who makes money for either station will be leaving. They're in debt for millions. Why would you get rid of anyone bringing in dollars?
"Why would you get rid of anyone bringing in dollars?"
and who would you bring in to replace them?
Hey Marks, the inno does just that. I swear by it. Ron and fez noon to three

That $6.95 with channels from either service may just get me back on with satellite radio. Will that work on my old Roady XT, or does that require new equipment when it's out?
JonE u need to buy a new radio for it to work but u can get selected channels from either service on all radios
....it seems like every article not related to the "shock jock topic" gets hit with non related comments!...i dont care if HOO HOO lost his wig or the o&a hacks embrace overrated jocks!
you dont have to pay for it! dont listen.....they both have loyal fans and you cant knock either for that!
Mel K sounds pretty darn smart, but the interview was way too short.
dasplumen, I have an inno, but due to my work schedule i am not able to listen weekdays noon to 3. I am much more interested in the idea of being able to visit the website, browsing the programming guide and hitting record to all shows i am interested in listening to, and being able to put it on my computer as a podcast for infinate storage time. Maybe im just too lazy to do it now though.
0.0 is the term for stren and crew in case anyone was wondering.

This was right before Bob sunk his teeth into the back of Mel's neck and converted him to one of the undead.
I want to suck your blood?
Cqn anyone make this interview available online for those of us who are only Sirius subscribers?
