Miles Davis
Widely considered one of the most influential jazz musicians of the 20th century, Miles Davis will soon have a channel dedicated to his life and music, starting this Friday, November 20th.
Hosted by the jazz legend's son, Erin Davis, his nephew drummer Vince Wilburn Jr. and legendary bassist, producer and writer Marcus Miller, Miles Davis Radio will feature music from Davis' massive catalog.

Robert Irving III, composer and Miles Davis' former music director, will also premiere never-before-heard soundtrack music recorded by Davis for the 1986 film Wise Guys.

In addition, you'll hear special segments and interviews with former Davis band members and various guests, including drummer Jimmy Cobb, pianist Herbie Hancock, guitarist John Scofield, pianist Monty Alexander, record executives Bruce Lundvall and Clive Davis, Davis' long-time road manager Gordon Meltzer, bassist Ron Carter, guitarist Carlos Santana, Rolling Stones bassist Darryl "Munch" Jones and friend and peer Quincy Jones.

The channel launch coincides with the November 24th release of Miles Davis: The Complete Columbia Album Collection (Amazon.com Exclusive), a deluxe limited edition retrospective of the music Davis created during his 30 years with Columbia Records. The package is comprised of 70 CDs and 1 DVD packaged in Japanese-styled mini LP Jackets, plus a 250-page book with a biography, discography, complete song index and rare photos.

Miles Davis Radio will air from Friday, November 20th at 3pm ET until Wednesday, November 25th, temporarily replacing Real Jazz (Sirius channel 72 and XM channel 70).

Long overdue.

This is fantastic. When people tell stories about Miles it's always a classic (they all impersonate his voice.)

Nobody was cooler than Miles.

"Its the notes that you don't play, that matter.."

Now this is how to have a single artist channel--- relatively short lived and for an artist who clearly deserves it, unlike Bruce Springstein or Jimmy Buffet

Miles Davis does deserve his own channel. Probably one of the greatest musicians of all time. But this also means we lose Real Jazz for a few days. Is there that little demand for regular jazz?

Miles Davis deserves a show, after XM brings beyond Jazz back.

I played keyboard on the road for a couple of years. This 5 day channel is long overdue for Sirius/XM. We've needed this cutting edge programming for years. No one is giving post Bitches Brew Jazz a chance. I was lucky enough to hear several days of this broadcast. Hearing guys like 'Sco and Bobby Irving explain Miles musical challenges and compositional techniques gave deep insight into how the band's tunes came together. Please, Please, Please Sirius/XM, don't let this be the end of your grand experiment. The Classic Jazz channel's regular programming is no better than what can be obtained in large cities all over North America. Please continue these special in-depth visits with great jazz artists. It's worth paying for.
