NAB cites Orbitcast Commenters in latest FCC filing

FCCThe NAB has filed a Reply to Opposition (PDF) with the FCC disputing Sirius-XM's proposed A La Carte packages.

But the notable part doesn't lie in the filing itself, rather in the fact that comments posted to Orbitcast are actually quoted in the filing. So before we continue, let's give a full round of applause for Joe, Flap Jackson, PFreak, JohnG, and Mr. FancyPants.

I think it's a testament to the strong community here, and the encouraged open format for accepting opposing views. That we'd ever see the ridiculous medley of screennames actually being cited in an FCC filing is deserving as well.

Satellite Radio TechWorld puts it perfectly, the NAB has just "immortalized" the commenters here with this filing. It's proof positive that they read, not only what I'm writing, but what you are writing.

And that's the most important of all.

Aw. Ryan gets to toot his horn.

Well, since the NAB is reading this... I have two things to say:

1. I'm embarrassed the station I work for is associated with you and had the balls to tell them that last week.

2. Go F*** yourselves. You're a disgrace and as much as I oppose the merger, I hope it goes through in spite of you.

I am glad I have not posted some of the things I have thought of here. I won’t get into it too much…….. but I know where the idea came from for Sterns 2 channels.

If you are in charge and get a call from no where one day you should take it.......

HAHAHA, ahhh man I can't belive that. Even though im still not sure if I want to see the merger happen, im not exactly agreeing with the NAB either. The NAB is only opposing the merger because it goes against their interests, not because its good/bad for the customer. So just like im a lil concerned wheather or not XM/SIRIUS is merging to provide me with better service or to save their failing businesses, i KNOW the NAB is only looking out for themselves, not me.

Hey NAB since your listening, please add this to your next FCC filing.

So, the NAB will see this, huh? Good...If regular radio was half as entertaining as your constant jabs and now the quotes of people on here, I'd almost be tempted to stop listening to my satellite radio. I see the points made by the being pro, as well as the being against...but just remember, you can look a little bit on this site and see links of your own hypocrisy: http://www.orbitcast.com/archives/nab-attacks-music-industry-with-radio-ads-oh-the-irony.html#comments

And in case XM and Sirius are reading...At this point I'm 75% don't care about the merger anymore. Not against it, really. Just tired of reading all of the 'NAB says this' and 'XM/Sirius says this'. The pre-merged companies need to come out with one hell of home run pricing plan for some sort of ALL Sirius w/ALL XM or offer up something so amazingly special in those 'top 11' channels from the other sides, or I'm sticking to my Sirius only. And start letting out the pricing of monthly, yearly, lifetime (and fill in what's happening to our current lifetime plans, SOON). I waited for the lineups and haven't been impressed, granted I can get XM's sports for $10...but paid I already $500 for a lifetime plan, so I wouldn't have to ever pay again. Just do something, anything, brilliant at this point to show why satellite is why I pay for radio.

And FCC...Pick what you can/can't say in regular radio. But, first decide on this merger.

If NAB is desperate enough to send in comments from posters who write nonsense here my first thought is this merger is almost a lock to go through.

It's a really weird feeling getting cited in a filing. I was amazed the NAB cited and quoted my comments in their Petition to Deny on the 9th. It's a pretty cool feeling that they even noticed; I wrote 11 pages - glad someone read it.

What no PNess comments....oh wait i am for the merger.

PFreak, did they even read any of his comments and how incorrect they were?

“Finally, as the ‘details’ begin trickling in people are starting to wake up and realize this is a bad deal for existing customers. . . . You will not be getting the best of both services, you will not be getting sports from each service, your bill is going to increase and you’re going to have to buy new equipment which Ihighly doubt will fill my needs immediately. . . .” Posting by PFreak to Orbitcast

lol this could not be more wrong.....

50 channels $6.99 less than .25 cents a day ,you can find that walking to your mail box everyday so what more can you ask for, how many channels do you have on am & fm in your city?

Ahh Crap. I'm still opposed to the merger unless this channel lineup gets to my satisfaction, (NFL with MLB), but I'm not sure I want to be in the same boat as the NAB. But hey, I'm in an FCC Report! Somebody cares about my opinion! I'm getting recognized! But it's still by the NAB. Crap.

Rehr is sucn a tool -- I want the merger to go through just to spite him.

Dang, I need to come up with some silly name and comment more often :p I can only imagine what some of those commissioners are thinking..."mrFancyPants? PFreak? We need to regulate internet users instead..." Good Job Big O!

I'm not a fan of the NAB. Look at the state of terrestrial radio. Local radio is so bad that I was driven to satellite radio. Now that doesn't mean I will be on the side of a merger just to say screw you to the NAB. The merger is a bad thing for consumers. We need choices. Take for instance the nixed DirecTV and Dish Network merger. I was able to cut a deal with DirecTV only because Dish existed. Had they merged, I would have had to bow to any demands made by the new combined DirecTV/Dish company.

>> Aw. Ryan gets to toot his horn.

Isn't he tooting everyone else's horn? I for one enjoy reading when this site is mentioned elsewhere. This is the best place for satrad news, and for all of us to voice our views TOGETHER. I like to see the recognition!

So to you and the NAB.... FUCK OFF!

with out this merger subscribers intrest haults same old price & programming nothing new the customers & non customers want a change in the form of a merger which will allow lower prices -more choices and eventuaully a better service everything offered by the combined company is acceptable knowing more is to come.

What's it like being a tool, used by an even bigger tool?

PNess, rather than type lol like a teenage girl, tell me what could be "more wrong"?

OK, NAB, Sirius/XM, do you have stuff to say? The comments form is right below this!

LOL LOL you don't like LOL, god how LOL.

"You will not be getting the best of both services, you will not be getting sports from each service, your bill is going to increase and you’re going to have to buy new equipment which Ihighly doubt will fill my needs immediately"

- i can cut out the 60+ stations i dont listen too and go with 11 more from xm and pay less then i would for both services

- i can have XM and still get stern for 6.00 more when it would normally cost me 26.00. i used to love XM cause the music was so much better, i would love to have back XM music with stern as a 6.00 option.

- i never listen to news/sports i can cut that fat out choose more music channels, stern, cut out other talk shows, and still end up paying the same for 75% content i never listen too...win win there.

PNess, jackass, you WON'T BE ABLE TO GET STERN ON XM. how about reading a fucking post before you type? The $6 per month extra is for SIRIUS SUBSCRIBERS WHO USE A-la-CARTE PRICING.

Not only is there no guarantee of Stern on XM (although I think there's at least a 60 percent chance that at least one channel of Howard will be included in the 11 "best of Sirius" package) - but the a la carte "Pick 50 for $6.99" plan does *not* let you pick any of the "Best of XM" or "Best of Sirius" if you are on the opposite platform. You must buy the Pick 100 for $14.99 plan in order to pick from the 11 cross-platform channels.

From the filing above - a choice quote:
"Thus, under Applicants’ approach, if people are unhappy with the merged EchoStar/DirecTV/Comcast/ Verizon, they could simply watch over-the-air television, go to the movies, rent DVDs, watch the Internet or watch video on their cellphones."

"PNess, jackass, you WON'T BE ABLE TO GET STERN ON XM. how about reading a fucking post before you type? The $6 per month extra is for SIRIUS SUBSCRIBERS WHO USE A-la-CARTE PRICING."

YOU think they will not put stern on the "best of sirius" lineup you are crazy. show me where they said that?

as for the extra $6.00 i might have to wait till dual band recievers but you can be sure you will be able to get him on both sides if the merger goes through. you will be getting programing from both sides crossing over before the dual band recievers....what those EXACT channels are have not been disclosed but i bet i am closer to being right then you are with stern being on both sides.....

Oh the NAB is reading this? I didn't know that they were up from their 6+ year nap of thinking satellite radio wasn't a threat. Their member radio stations even let XM buy ad time on their own stations. Sort of like letting Target (XM) recruit employees inside a Wal-Mart (NAB-member stations). Then after Target steals all of Wal-Mart's employees, it goes and cries to the police saying Target was trespassing.

And really, satellite radio is sort of like that kind of upgrade. You suffered for years with only having Wal-Mart and then here comes Target to the area. Sure, you pay a little more but it is well worth it.

Quote that NAB. You won't. You will continue to quote paid phonies like David Lawrence (of Online Tonight and The David Lawrence Show, which even though his XM and Sirius bashing, he still likes to have those listeners boost his ratings for the advertisers). He spews out "NAB this" and "NAB that" like he's life partners with NAB Pres./CEO David Rehr (rear?).

Terrestrial is a sinking ship. You've ran out of life rafts so you start blaming everyone else but yourself for crashing into that iceberg.

So in closing, here's my impression of the NAB. Wah wah wah. Thank you, thank you very much.

I've expanded my music listening 100-fold since subscribing to XM in 2004 and will never go back to shitty commercial radio. Here's a quote... Terrestrial radio sucks festering moose cock!
