A halt in production from both XM and SIRIUS just isn't enough for the NAB. Now they want the FCC to recall all satellite radios that are not in compliance. NAB President David Rehr (pictured) wrote the following in a letter to FCC Chairman Kevin Martin:
"NAB continues to be concerned about the interference caused to free over-the-air radio services by satellite radio devices not in compliance with the Commission’s rules. To ensure that the scope of this problem is not expanded, NAB urges the Commission to take steps to halt the further distribution and sale to consumers of additional satellite radio devices failing to comply with Part 15 of the Commission’s rules."
"Although press reports indicate that XM and Sirius have requested their manufacturers to suspend production of noncompliant devices, these actions do nothing to address noncompliant products already in consumers’ hands or those already shipped to distributors and retailers. NAB would urge the Commission to seek recall of noncompliant devices from XM’s and Sirius’ major distributors and retailers. Action is necessary to prevent even more disruption to listeners’ use and enjoyment of free over-the-air radio services, including new digital services, and the Commission has clear authority to vigorously enforce its rules regarding noncompliant devices."
He says nothing about the disruption to listeners' use and enjoyment to people who own the satellite radio receivers that would be recalled. Thanks buddy.

I wish to submit a complaint. These FREE over the air radio stations are infringing on my right to listen to radio that I PAY for. They should stop broadcasting on the signal I choose. :)
Us listeners really do need to not use a stations frequency as if probably doesn't give you a good clear signal anyway.
If this crap does go through the NAB better and I do mean better go after fm mod manufacturers such are Belkin, etc.

Wouldn't NAB be doing more for THEIR listeners' (or more like listener's) enjoyment by taking bolt cutters to the guy wires on their towers?
And I don't know that there's ever been a mandatory recall, ie., there's nothing to force subs to send their units in. Only problem is, in theory, XM and Sirius know by receiver IDs which suspect units are still out there...

At the lower end of the FM is usually nothing but religious stations. Why does Congress take religion out of our schools and force it down satellite radio listeners' throats?

Good thing that the NAB is not concerned with sat radio -- isn't that what they keep saying?
Face it -- they are grasping here, because sat radio is catching on. Because both XM and Sirius are taking steps to bring their radios into compliance, the FCC will likely leave them alone.
To be completely fair, this is the true purpose of the FCC, not to regulate content or censor, but to make sure radio waves and broadcast devices don't interfere with each other.
Think about it, if the broadcast towers from Terrestrial radio started interfering with Sattelite Radio, you'd be the first to complain about it and get the FCC involved.
SR really needs to make sure there equipment meets proper standards.
JRT, Terrestrial radio is already interfering with sat signals. We have a region near philly that is all radio/tv towers. Static because the signals are so strong in that area.
I don't think a recall of radios already out there, in consumers hands,will happen.
Didn't XM's SkyFi 2, already get the ok from the FCC?
