Really funny...finally an O&A and XM connection.

So why hasn't XM mentioned Opie & Anthony until now? Oh, that's right...nobody gives a shit.

I wish they would have been a bit more hacky to make the laugh track even funnier, but yeah, I like this. Doubt we will see this running during family programming :-)

and yes i still listen everyday to O&A after i am done with stern, and the show has in FACT suffered since they went on FreeFm.

I've never understood the "watered down" angle. There are more commercials, yes, but I think a lot of people are talking about the content itself being watered down somehow. I just don't see it. So what if they're not cursing... I think Anthony's fake beep and listening to them try to work around things are more entertaining than just cursing anyway.

What I'd be more upset about is that IMO they use all the funniest bits and have the most energy at FM. The last hour especially tends to drag and they rarely introduce anything new... it's just riffing on the news or their food or Roland. Which is still funnier than anything else on the dial, but not exactly O&A-worthy.

It's a shame that their show has lost all of its edgyness since going to FM. XM202 is full of constant replays of the watered down FM content, and it's not anything useful. It's the same crap as every other FM DJ in the morning wackiness. I want my old XM O&A back!

I've listened to their actual show, and it's like a mediocre Howard Stern tribute band. It's really boring. Their humor is forced and unoriginal.

That said, this is much better than their lame FreeFM "clothing store clerks" commercial.

O&A aren't "irrelevant" as some would like to believe. Yes, they're not mega-superstars. But neither is Stern. Both shows are now integral parts of bigger services.

To clarify, Stern isn't a mega-superstar nowadays. He was (in my opinion), but not anymore except to his fans.

I don't see the humor as "forced" any more than normal for a show that tries to stay funny. In fact O&A make a point of NOT laughing when someone bombs. As far as originality goes, Norton is a real genius, and I'm not sure what new ground is being broken in joke-telling these days anyway. Are the boys at Sirius speaking in tongues or something? Inventing new grammar?

I guess the bottom line is there's no accounting for taste. Great thing to live in the land of choices!

Pete, let me clarify. I used to listen to O&A on WNEW, I'm very familiar with the show, the bits and characters. I know that the standard response to someone who finds them mediocre is "Doesn't get the bit guy" or "doesn't get the show guy".

Believe me, I "get" the show and on the whole I just don't find it all that entertaining.

To contrast them with HS: Stern's show has a genuine, natural energy to it. It moves and flows so seamlessly that you just can't wait to hear what's coming next. That's why Stern has been such a huge cultural force in broadcasting: his show has that magic organic formula that nobody else can replicate. Nobody interviews like Stern. Nobody rants like Stern. Nobody can do radio like Stern and his crew. The show is better than ever on Sirius, and so far there is nobody on terristrial OR sat that can come close to that kind of quality.

O&A? Don't get me wrong - they have their moments. Jimmy is funny and Ant's stories are good stuff. But there's something about them that seems unnatural. They are always "in character", not their real selves. Their show lacks that natural flow, often the humor seems forced and reaching. And let's face it, many of the bits they do are obvious descendants of Stern's schtick (I don't blame them for that, the wheel can only be invented once after all.) Their show has that "let's be wacky for the sake of being wacky" feel to it. Hacky is the better term. I often see O&A fans criticizing Stern for being "old", but to me, O&A come off as couple of middle aged men trying to act like college students.

I don't mean to start a flame war here, it's all just my opinion.

well said satradman. you respectfully disagreed with the o&a fans. i don't find their show that entertaining either, but it is better than alot of shitty morning shows, the ones that laugh at every single thing. your opinion about stern is very similar to mine. i don't worship the guy, but his show just flows perfectly. as far as this commercial, its seems like a film student directed it.

Howard's show is so far from genuine your comment is ludicrous. As someone who has met & worked with the man I can tell you he is nothing like you hear him on the air, that is a character. He has no friends in the industry and is a complete asshole. I've also worked with O&A and they are the same on-air as off. Great to their fans and as real as it gets. Howie was always a prick but has become much worse in the last 10 years.

I've listened to Stern my whole life and I finally am at the point where I cringe listening to him. He sounds like my grandfather, blatantly lies often to his audience and his whole gang of "yes" men are disgusting. Talk to any of them away from Howard and they have nothing but contempt for him. After my experience with the Stiletto and a year of Stern's poor show I'm cancelling Sirius after this month is up.

I don't know much about the behind-the-scenes personalities, nor do I care. I'm going by how they sound on the air. And to me, Stern's show is just far superior, more "real", and much more entertaining.

Many things may "feel" real but that doesn't mean they are. Was "The Simple Life" real? It was a reality show right? Perhaps they were planned to feel that way. If you enjoy it great, but the truth behind Howard's show is ugly.

Do you feel like it was shot on 8, 16, 35 MM film stock, in HD, on video? Was it the editing you didn't like? The transitions? The color correction done in conform? Maybe you feel the Telecine didn't go well. Was it the lighting? You are a babbling ass. And the director is no friend of mine but I know of his work and he has done many major national campaigns. A show can still be fun to listen too even watered down. A show can be something other then your "favorite show" and yet you can still continue to listen to it.

and you are right O&A are nothing like they were on wNEW cause i almost would have chose them over stern at that point in time. Something happened to them that put them way out of stern's leauge and back to the minors.

well the approximate logistics of the lighting appratus is not aligned with the geometrics. the Telecine went ok, it said it will call me back if i had questions. every producer knows anthony's craters show up in hd, so it was shot with a film students canon he got at best buy.

Having a portable doesn't make me a fanboy, it means I like satradio and want a portable. And that $350 Stiletto is certainly not a portable so it was returned. As for the HD, when you're in the business you need the equipment. I even get to write it off as a tax deduction. Howard TV is free. Now you can go back to 1987.

Anthony and Opie had me at hello when i use to dl their audio from foundry. I have to admit THEY SUCK NOW!! HARD.
Sure, i guess i can give them credit for an entertaining show years back, now they just sound super "hacky". "Hey, lets all laugh at what this guys is saying no matter if its funny or not to make it seem like we're having fun and radio listeners will have to say the show is funny".
