Is this the new Sirius XM logo? (if so, what do you think?)

New Sirius XM Logo
In a recent SEC filing made by Sirius XM Radio Inc. it appears that we've gotten a first glimpse at the company's new logo.

Sirius XM old logo
Compared to the old logo, we can see that Sirius XM has carried over one key element - the XM "sound waves" - and apparently has dropped the dog. That might be disappointing to many Sirius fans.

Font treatments have been modified to no longer make the "Sirius" in all caps (finally) and the typeface has been made common between both Sirius and XM brands. It looks like they're going after a more "softer" look than before.

There had been rumors that a new brand identity was being explored, and while the websites and other properties have yet to be updated, the presentation that CEO Mel Karmazin used for the Liberty Media investment analyst meeting appears to show off their stuff.

Personally, I would have liked to see the new look breakout and be a bit bolder, similar to how Thomson Reuters rebranded itself with their redesigned logo. But maybe I just need time for it to sink in.

What do you think of the new Sirius XM logo?

Looks awful. I'm surprised they didn't just use a pic of mel bending over with howard behind him.

It seems very lack luster. It brings nothing to the table. Very Mediocre.

Way too plain, and too simple of a font. They need to spice it up. Everyones used to talks shows ect saying "siriusxm" so it was only a matter of time. Go back to the drawing board and come up with a totally new logo. If u want to hold onto the past just use the dog with the soundwaves, like someone else made.

It looks better, maybe that's why they couldn't give a substantial raise to O&A.

The new logo seems a bit cumbersome.

I like the dog better.

Re-sign Mongo the dog!!!!

I'm surprised they're still bothering to put 'XM' in the logo, creating the illusion that it somehow still exists. We've all known it for a couple of years now...XM is dead, and mediocrity has triumphed.

New logo is perfect!!! Looks like a Blue Chip now!!!

drop the XM. hell drop the XM "talent" too.

the sound wave (()) have always been better than the silly sirius dog - glad to see XM prevailed this one time after being smashed repeatedly by Sirius

I think they realize "XM" is a better brand name, and always had a cooler logo, so they can't just kill it off, even though the only XM employees left all work for 202 :( RIP Lucy & Ethel!

In my opinion XM was the better name. The XM logos were cooler as well. XMs yellow on black looked a lot less corporate than the light blue and white that SIRIUS used. I always felt that SIRIUS's logo/color scheme and stupid Paul Stanley looking dog said "Hey look, we're for everyone. We're safe and generic. Nothing unique here to see". While XM had a more rebel look. XM wanted it to be clear that they were different. Not FM, or AM. XM, something different.

I guess it makes perfect sense that the new logo would carry on that we're corporate look. XM as is was before the merger is dead. The company became SIRIUS. It really doesn't matter what the logo is at the end of the because the company is what it is. Like it's been said, " your mother sucks cocks in hell you faithless slime"! No, that's not the saying that I was looking for. It was "you can polish a turd.....".

I suppose a logo of the cute Sirius dog raping an XM satellite would be politically incorrect, if totally accurate...

The creativity of that logo is almost as weak as the creativity that has gone into the service since the merger.

Someone used the term "mediocrity" and I can't think of a better description. I'd gladly pay $20/month for the old XM. But if they ever get rid of the cable news channels, my XM subs will be history, because that's all I use it for.

Think how pathetic that is. I was one of the first 30,000 subscribers to satellite radio, back during their first quarter of operations. Then, it was all about the music. I didn't give a shit about sports or news or anything else. Just the music.

Today, I wouldn't listen to music on satellite radio if THEY PAID ME. It is garbage. Sheer garbage.

Has that Lite FM look to it.Oh wait,Sirius is FM.

(Bring a Saturday Night mix show back to the Strobe, damn it.)

XM would have been better.. the dog was cool, but prob got confused with the RCA dogs.. and it would by AM, FM, HD, XM.. It's plain looking, and the font is horrendous.. and it's XM (not Xm)

Not bad... They've learned the KISS principal: Keep It Simple Stupid!

Now sign Howard and we can all go home.

So now they are claiming they are one company, because yesterday when I called and canceled my Sirius service they claimed they were two companies.

When I asked why a new station like Fantasy Sports talk is only on XM unless I want to pay for the Best of XM besides trying to get more money out of me they response with "Well that company got the contract" My come back is "Well why was Mad Dog Radio put on both" response "Well both companies got the contract"

Makes no sense at all. Listening to Podcasts and internet radio is more entertaining now days anyways. Goodbye Sirius

Apparently the Sirius dog was cut in the last round of layoffs so Howard could have even more money.

It's a shame in a way.... XM, by all accounts was the better company: Better programming, way better technology, even a better Name/Logo.

But then the retards in charge of XM refused to sign Stern. Had they done that, there would only be XM these days. Sirius would have gone under. Now, after Sirius merged (really acquired) with XM, all those idiots are deservedly on the street where they belong. Morons.

gotta incorporate the dog

Looks blah. If they are truly one company, they need a whole new logo. New color scheme, font, everything.

Maybe, but XM wasn't stupid enough to pay Howard what he wanted for how little he works. Did Sirius get $500 Million in sales? NO. That money is gone and will never be recouped.

XM probably offered him a fair contract with CBAs done better in line with the subscriptions and press, and he didn't take it because he wanted to swindle a new company. XM was bought out because of their financial issues that had more to do with actually providing a better (read, costly) service but getting undercut by the flim-flam artists.

The guys at XM were smarter than that, but, like in Idiocracy, the fools prevailed. Howard's greed wound up killing XM, and putting Sirius in a place where they can't provide a good product even if they wanted to... which now they have to thanks to what's coming up in portable internet.

It looks like a poor design. The old logo was better. I hope they dont get rid of the dog. It's well known. They should just call it SIRUIS Satellite Radio. There isnt anything left of XM. Which is fine in my opinion but that's a different story.

Well, I've worked over 20 years as a creative director at a major ad agency and I think that new logo is complete shit. The colors are bad. The font is terrible. The kurning is to tight. It doesn't say "radio" at all and it's just bland and boring. It's perfect for this company.

Should have kept the Dog but I guess since not many people understand that the brightest star in the solar system is Sirius and is called the Dog star then the dog is lost on people. Background might look better black. Still to early. The BP logo change to the starburst that you see today wasn't cool back than but it grew on people so maybe time is all that is needed. And more exposition in the brick & mortar stores of course.

They should stick with the doggy, at least it's something recognizable. This is just words

Bring back the dog!

To: SIRIUS XM Employees

Above is a new corporate logo that we began using today. Our goal was to simplify and unite our operating brands into one corporate brand. You should expect to see more of this new corporate logo in the coming weeks and we will be issuing Logo Guidelines for its usage shortly.

However, the two companies continue to have, among other things, separate corporate existences, subscribers, OEM relationships, programming, subscription packages, pricing, and capital structures. As a result, the legacy SIRIUS and XM marks will continue to be used where applicable.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me or anyone on the Brand Marketing team.

Thank you.

It fits the company.. They have no imagination, and are becoming more like regular terrestrial radio..

I don't like the new logo, the font and the way the XM part looks. It also needs a bit more color, somehow incorporate the Black and Yellow of XM. And get that dog in there somehow.

to be honest, it makes it look like another iPod rip off, i hate it, a bunch of companies are being lazy with their logos by using everyday typefaces!

Walmart changed their logo to a basic arial typeface with a starburst logo that any 7 year old kid with a copy of photoshop 7 can create!

i blame apple, they started the whole "basic logo" trend.

i guess i just don't see why they needed to ditch the old logo.

it's looks boring and plain....too bland.

Main problem with the new logo , the name Sirius. XM had better programing , & better equipment & if U look at the sub #'s to this day , more subs. Fuck Shitius.

Has this logo been confirmed? I guess we wait for Mel's Twitter.

The sirius side should have a penis. While the xm side should be getting ass raped.

I agree that the it looks terrible...I could agree with the yellow and black but leave the dog and put the 'airwaves' around it at the top and have some cool lettering(if not the original) underneath it. Keeping it simple yet cool looking. And not that atrocity that I saw at the top of this page. Yuk.

Years and years of service and yet... STILL no Polkas! Get a clue people. No dog = more gooder.

Keep The Dog!!

There's nothing ownable here. Anyone could have bastardized the two existing logos to create something just like this in Microsoft Word.

Im ok with them dropping mention of satrad, IF they plan to fully support internet streaming of all channels. Get an official app on Roku, Boxee, XBox360, PS3, AppleTV, etc. The SiriusXM internet player needs a massive overhaul.

Do you work for Sirius or XM and in which site are you bro?

Do you work for Sirius or XM and in which site are you bro?

Terrible logo, plain and BORING!

words. they no longer matter.

A successful company is recognizable simply by the logo.

The dog is uniformly recognized as Sirius - the (( )) is just as well know for XM. There is absolutely no reason to spell it out to people.

The "dog in the airwaves" should be everywhere - starting with every subscriber - Mel needs to get that dog on every vehicle.

While he's at it, I would like to know why current model vehicles have a "SAT" button rather than a "Sxm" button?!?

***

Oh, and by the way, when folks see the dog - under my "Not Censored" sticker -- they know exactly what service I'm referring to...and it's not because I spelled out "Hey, I like Sirius XM and you should too, because it's awesome to hear "F Bombs" when I want & commercial-free music when I want that".

Oh no, that's teeerible!

Bring back the freakin dog! It was a recognizable and iconic much like RCA dog.

Sadly, you are 100% correct.

Howard, Howard, Howard...always about Howard. Is that you, Howie? Or one of your poorly-paid minions?

Let's keep this to the logo: it does look bland. Simple is good, I agree, and I can see why they retained the blue from Sirius. They don't want to go back to anything XM-like, ie., the black and yellow colors.

The dog was cute, but cute does not sell; I can see why that's gone.

Unfortunately a new logo does not translate to immediate results.

For me it will ALWAYS be "Beyond AM beyond FM XM Satellite Radio".

This new Sirius XM logo sucks.... what kind of design is this? Bring back the freakin dog! It was a recognizable and iconic much like RCA dog.

Since SXM say they read all or most of their tweets, I say everyone that hates this abomination of a logo express it to them on Twitter.
