On July 1st, XM will become the exclusive satellite radio home of the NHL. In September of 2005, XM announced signing a 10-year, $100 million dollar, exclusive, agreement with the NHL.
Just as Sirius is the exclusive satellite radio broadcaster of NASCAR and the NFL, XM will be the exclusive home of the MLB and NHL. The 2007-08 NHL season will mark XM's third season of NHL coverage and its first season as the exclusive satellite radio provider of the League.
XM airs over 1,100 NHL games per season to hockey fans across the U.S. and Canada. XM also offers the first and only 24-hour nationwide hockey radio channel - Home Ice (ch 204) - with news, commentary, interviews and play-by-play analysis from hockey experts like Phil Esposito, Bill Clement, Denis Potvin and Gary Green.
XM's first day as the exclusive satellite radio home of the NHL is the same day as Free Agency Day, the annual start of the free-agency period for NHL players. Home Ice will provide round-the-clock coverage of the latest signings and negotiations.
As the exclusive satellite radio partner of the NHL, XM is officially rebranding the Home Ice channel to NHL Home Ice.

Just as one XM sub said that the MLB is the ONLY thing that Sirius subscribers want in the merger deal. This is what I want.

This probably won't do very much business at all for XM.
best part is this 100 million dollar deal is 75% paid for by XM canada and XM here has already payed their 25 mill. Its now expensed out.. no more costs for the content. (other than producing the shows)

Don't get me wrong, I think all sports on the radio suck balls but this probably won't do much business for XM? Huh, you do realize hockey is the NFL of Canada right?
It will do wonders for XM Canada but in the US not so much.
If this is exclusive to XM Radio only what happens if the merger goes through?? Is the contract voided??
I agree with one of the previous posts...if the merger happens,the only thing I want out of XM is the hockey game broadcasts since I have Sirius for Stern
