Mel KarmazinSirius Backstage has a nice set of notes outlining Mel Karmazin's keynote at the Citigroup Media & Telecom Conference in Las Vegas today.

A few key takeaways are that Karmazin doesn't like the lifetime subscriptions because they're the biggest fans. Also a subscription price hike is possible, but not currently at this time.

Hey also said that he felt that portable products don't have mass-market appeal, but that Sirius is thinking about a relationship with a portable media player company.

Wow, no merger talk? Now that's a shock.

There will never be a merger. Take that to the bank.

Never say Never. Take that to the bank.

And portable products might have more appeal if they just worked. Jumping thru hoops to get a signal is not a good user experience.

It would be absolutely amazing if Sirius partnered with Apple. The SiriPod would redefine satellite radio...

One can dream...

Apple does not make most of their money from ipods, they make it from itunes. I do not see them partnering with a company that provides unlimited content. And I definitely dont see them partnering with either XM OR Sirius at this point.

I think Sirius is gonna be in trouble. Xm with all their new products and partnerships are gonna take control while sirius gets their shit together. I thought I had a clear vision of the future for these companys but now I see so many different companys jumping on the wagon coming out with new products and in car innovations. If Sirius doesnt do something big XM will steal the spotlight. The Video idea I thought was cool at first but it looks as if it will be difficult to do and could also be competing with real satelite television companys like direct TV.

XM is now very screwed.

Now that the merger cat is out of the merger bag, who's going to want to buy their retail or OEM product ?
